18 Н е в е н T H E E N G L I S H C L U B This schoolyear there will be an English club at school. There will be two groups: the junior class and the senior class. The students of the 5 th grade classes are the members of the junior class. We are the junior class: Bačlija Višnja, Vidović Anja, Singulinski Mateja, Čabrilo Vojin, Čučković Vasilije, Balać Ena, Dakić Marko, Ivanić Dimitrije, Lojpur Nikola, Sabo Cibolja David, Jovović Lara, Al Šamri Dergham, Bićanin Danilo, Vučinović Ivana, Galfi Kaločai Daniel, Milošević Jovana, Nikolić Lenka, Race Matia, Stanković Milica, Stegnjajić Vuk, Taslak Iva. This is the senior class. Its members are : Alma Tomić, Zoran Rokić, Veljko Mrvić,Vukašin Šteković, Nataša Radević, Andrej Lučić, Vanja Tintor, Luka Divjak and Filip Katana. Our aim is to explore the English language, to have fun while practicing the language and promote our school, town and country through different projects. Teacher: Dorottya Kalinić The history of our school Orignally the school building was a convent.In 1874 the nuns who lived in the convent required from the authorities to open an elementary school in the convent.The enlargement of the school building started in 1875.At that time the school had 90 students.After the World War II the school was redeveloped into a hospital and a year later into a bilingual teacher-training school.In 1955 the school was named after our famous poet Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj,so this year we celebrate the 60th birthday of our school.In 1956 the bilingual teaching in Serbian and Hungarian languages was introduced.During the 1980s our school flourished and was attended by about 1.000 students.A lot of awards were won during the past years both by the teachers and the students.The most prominent students who attended our school were Igor Dolinka,the youngest Doctor of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Novi Sad,Mihajlo Kovac,a journalist and former abassador of the Republic of Serbia and Montenegro,Simonida Djordjevic,Melinda Torok and Zsuzsana Palencsar,academic painters and Zsuzsana Korhec,an academic of the history of art.
19 Н е в е н Our school today The elementary school Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj has 30 classes and two classes of extended sojourn.The teaching is bilingual,it is carried out in Serbian and Hungarian languages.36 teacher teach different subjects and 18 teachers teach the junior classes.There is one pedagogue and one psychologist.Our scool has about 600 students.There are 18 classrooms and two smaller classrooms for Desing and Technology education.There is also a multimedia systems classroom and a DVD classroom.The library which has 19.946 books is in a separate building.There is a gym and there is a sports ground in the schoolyard for the physical education classes.There is a canteen in the ground floor where we eat and chat during the long break which lasts for half an hour.When the weather is nice we prefer to eat outside on the benches in schoolyard.The schoolyard is fixed up as a park with trees and flowers and with the sports ground in middle of it.There is a teaching equipment room with a photo-copy machine in it and the classrooms are also equiped with specific equipment for different subjects. This is our canteen. We can buy snacks, sandwiches, soft drinks and sometimes pancakes here. You can also have your sandwiches tosted. If you prefer healty food you can buy apples, too. We love to spend time here. This is our biology classroom. Here we learn about nature, plants, animals, humans, and many other things. There are samples of soil, herbs, and posters, and there is a projector, so we can watch films, slides and lectures or power point presentations on the computer. There is an aquarium with small fish in it, too. This is our maths classroom. Here we have all the assets for successful education. It is a lovely and bright classroom. This is our Information Tehnology classroom. Here we learn how to use the computer, how to make different projects and when there is time to spare we can play compputer games. I.T. is an optional subject, but we all love it. This is our gym. We do sporte here during the winter time. It is very big but there is enough space for all.
