2008 was the last time the Interclub shield was
raised by the Tauranga Sport Fishing Club. So this year it
was with a new found determination that the TSFC rallied
to put together an awesome team of 57 anglers. The
team possessed the perfect mix of the youth that brought
endurance to fish all night along with more senior members
that brought know how and collective years of experience.
up for 3 hours on a 30 wide setup. The beast finally
materialised into a very stroppy Bigeye Thresher of
153.2kg. This fish has been submitted to the NZSFC
for the 1st and heaviest for the season. Well done guys!
Highlights of the InterclubTournament included the
With the weather last weekend turning out better than expected
the boats spread themselves to the edges of Chart 54.
Saturday saw 43 fish weighed in at the TSFC weigh
station, half of these from the Mount setting the
competitive tone that always exists at this event. Clearly
many boats stayed away and choosing to fish the
night bite and up size the weights on the catch cards.
Noticeable was the east/west current that was flowing
strongly against the SW winds that made for some
challenging conditions. The inshore the fishing was
both days pretty tough, luckily it was the offshore
reefs and islands that produced the better fish.
The team off Bandit was fishing out wide for us, and doing
a great job with Tarakihi and Bluenose on board. Then
everything stepped up a gear when Justin Tombleson
hooked a beast of a fish that proceeded to beat him
Tom Gollop, Tony Brown took another first place with a
7.97kg Snapper as did Gary Rae with a 2.58kg Kahawhai.
Well done to everyone that represented our Club. It was
absolutely magic to see everyone coming together like that
to get the win! Let’s make sure this trophy stays with us
now, so mark this one on the calendar for next year!
