Leggings, whether of the laced leather or<br />
knit variety, was the thread that trailed<br />
through much of the Givenchy fall collection.<br />
Balanced atop the spindle legged<br />
proportion were voluminous capes,<br />
square shouldered jackets and boxy knits<br />
with cropped sleeves that had a hulking<br />
quality. A less strict option came in the<br />
shape of slim, tapered pants and jackets<br />
that hugged the shoulders with a military<br />
bent. Black was the color of choice. A mix<br />
of materials—matte leather, satin, wool,<br />
nylon—gave the monochrome subtle dimension<br />
(Navy wool jacket with leather<br />
yoke and back cross seam, $2,500; light<br />
wool serge shirt, $620; black wool twill<br />
