debis-VAMOS
CAD application system
for parameter driven
tool design

The parameter driven design
with debis-VAMOS allows time savings
of up to 70% in tool design.
In the process chain tooling the design of
tools and dies is becoming a more and more
strategic subject for cost and time reasons.
Only efficient design methods lead to a
considerable reduction in the time to market
and thus to a cost reduction in tool and die
design.
According to our experience even the
parameterization possibilities of the most
sophisticated CAD systems find their limits
here.
Especially in the automotive industry
debis-VAMOS is used for parameter
driven design of tools and dies.
With a parameter driven and solids oriented
procedure debis-VAMOS facilitates quick
design and modification of complex objects
such as large dies used to manufacture car
body panels in the automotive industry.
By means of variation of already existing die
designs debis-VAMOS in many cases helps
to avoid completely new designs.

Design of variants
instead of new design
It is the principle of debis-VAMOS not to
design a complex object, but to describe it
via parameters. These definitions are provided
by the system (e.g. for classes of dies).
This allows considerable savings even for the
first design with debis-VAMOS.
The longer debis-VAMOS is applied, the more
probable it is, that the designer will find a
similar, already existing die, its variation allows
him to circumvent a complete new design.
Increase in quality
by optimization of the
die design
With debis-VAMOS the designer is able to
concentrate his know how completely on the
definition of the numerical, geometrical or
topological parameters. The actual modelling
is done by the interpreter which reads the
parameter description and generates the
object automatically according to the
parameter description.
Thus the designer gains valuable time that
he can use to analyse and optimize the quality
of his solid model.
Integrated data suitable
for manufacturing
The model designed with debis-VAMOS
contains, besides the complete geometrical
description, which is free of redundancy, also
additional information, e.g. for the
manufacturing of the cast model, the NC
treatment of the casting or the drawing up
of the parts list. This allows a significantly
more economical die manufacturing.
Functionality
Comprehensive
parameterization
possibilities
debis-VAMOS offers comprehensive parameterization
possibilities extending the
standard range of functions of CAD systems.
The primary input parameters for the
design of large dies are:
- part surface
- part contour
- tool type
- press data
debis-VAMOS
supports the design
of different dies
For the design of conventional dies, debis-
VAMOS/ConvDieSolution includes application
packages for draw, trim, flange and cam dies.
debis-VAMOS/ConvDieSolution is used by
leading car manufacturers. Those companies
usually have a library of frequently used
standard parts, which they also provide to
their suppliers.
For the design of progressive dies, we provide
the module debis-VAMOS/ProgDieSolution,
including a variety of standard parts in a
generalized form.
According to the same basic principles
additional application packages based on
debis-VAMOS can be created.
Design Process
debis-VAMOS provides
a modular structure
debis-VAMOS consists of a general kernel
(VAMOS kernel) and application specific
descriptions of the objects (VAMOS object
structures).
These application specific object structures
may be designed either by the user or within
the scope of a service project by experienced
specialists in the debis Systemhaus.
The analysis module within debis-VAMOS
analyses the finished design and generates the
corresponding data for the manufacturing. These
are for instance: pattern data, NC data or data
for BOM.
With the integration interface debis-VAMOS/
EPI the user can integrate company specific
additions (i.e. standard parts).
For some car manufacturers the respective
additional modules are already available.
Software prerequisites:
debis-VAMOS is available on UNIX platforms.
For the required data base system ORACLE, we
provide licenses that are embedded in debis-
VAMOS. debis-VAMOS is based upon the CAD
