SPEAKING COMPETITION <strong>2004</strong><br />

‘ Global Independence For Women’s Rights” was my topic for EUSM Public Speaking<br />

Ban remtion <strong>2004</strong> which was able to captivate the audience. Organized by the English Speaking Union<br />

Stoar-T-a ( EUSM ), The Star and HSBC on 4th of April <strong>2004</strong>, the competition was open to full time<br />

*bce23 aged between 16 till 20 and was held at three places, the central, northern and southern<br />

map : 2. The first top two winners will be on all expenses paid trip to represent Malaysia in the<br />

msmmional Public Speaking Competition in London. My participation was at Informatic’s Auditorium,<br />

i Her Baru as places for participation in Kuala Lumpur was already fully booked. Having examination<br />

*32 icbate on the run, I had little time to focus on the competition and had to skip my examination to<br />

The competition saw many talents in public speaking in a total participation of ninety six<br />

precae hum all three regions. During the preliminaiy rounds, my prepared speech was “Global<br />

i: ceyendence For Women’s Rights” for te theme given Borderless world. For my impromptu speech,<br />

rr 2: pic was ‘Languange And Life’for the theme Languange. I found it flattering that the audience<br />

jH_-e very receptive towards my speech. Shockingly, with my only one day preparation, I made it into<br />

7- .'•emi finals. Based on the theme for semi finals Culture, I aimed my speech on letting people know<br />

1 modernization has jeopardized culture under my little ‘Modernization Versus Cultuer’.<br />

One of the judges Mrs Amy Lai Tan, of EUSM was very supportive to all of the participants<br />

*nc even gave us useful tips for our speech. The competition was not only about winning as through<br />

•nr the competition we, the participants made great friends and shared our understanding about<br />

r . : -- speaking. Obviously, many were amused that there was a representative from Terengganu.<br />

■Tmmks to the great support, encouraging help nad never ending trust from my parents, teachers and<br />

T -.zis, I managed to represent the state and school well. The coming year will surely be a blast!<br />
