We are a place of many stories, not only within the contents of our bustling building and brilliant programme of work, but the story of the centre itself. Back in 1988, six local people paid £25 for a ruined building and set about their dream of restoring it and converting it to a vibrant arts centre for the people of Calderdale and beyond. For those of us that have been at Square <strong>Chapel</strong> for some time this is an old story; it feels like part of a mythology - but like all those stories that endure it is filled with hope, triumph and humanity. Photo credit: Anthony Robling After ten years of planning and development, we are delighted to have started work on our £6.6 million expansion to Square <strong>Chapel</strong>. The capital build will transform our venue by creating a new extension, a level access to the main space and improved facilities for everyone who uses the centre. The building will include an intimate 108 seater multi-purpose cinema/studio theatre space for film screenings, performances and workshops; new dressing rooms, improved toilets, a dedicated space for its committed volunteers and a café-bar area.
