Author's Note: I cannot say that I have this lesson completely learned. It is a daily struggle to give your heart to God—a daily submission. I also must say that this idea was not entirely my own, but the story is completely mine. Lisa squealed as another text from her crush, Kevin, popped up on the screen. When she saw what it said, she emitted another squeal. Her best friend, Jess, grinned at her across the room. other friends. One day Jess came up and said to her "Lisa, what's happened? I hardly get to talk to you at all anymore!" Lisa shrugged her shoulders and flipped her hair. "Nothing's happened. I'm still your best friend." Little by little, Lisa drew away from others and drew closer to Kevin. Kevin, Kevin, Kevin. He became her everything. The one person she wanted to spend her time with. The reason she woke up. The reason she went around with a smile on her face. Before, God had been the reason she woke up, the One she wanted to spend time with, and the One Who put a smile on her face. Kevin became her everything. The one person she wanted to spend her time with—the reason she woke up—the reason she walked around with a smile on her face. "What's up?" she asked. "Kevin just asked me out!" said Lisa, grinning from ear to ear. Jess was on the bed next to her in an instant. "Really?" she asked. "That's great! What are you going to say?" "I'll have to ask my parents first," said Lisa. She quickly sent her mom a text asking her mom for permission. Because her family had known Kevin's for years, her mom quickly agreed. Lisa then sent Kevin a text, saying she would love to go out on a date with him. That was the beginning. Before long, they were one of the most popular couples at church. They both had a passion for God that others envied. Besides just dating, they also would pray together and serve at church. Lisa wanted to be sure that she didn't start pushing others out of her life, so she continued to invest time in her family and friends. However, as the months, and then a year, went by, she began spending more and more time with Kevin, and less time with Jess and her One day, Lisa confessed to Jess. "I just don't know what I would do if Kevin broke up with me." Jess frowned. "Lisa, have you considered that maybe, possibly, Kevin has become an idol in your life?" Continued on next page. USELESS FACTS Written by Julia Ryan Editor’s note: Our useless facts article has always made an appearance, from our very first Valentine’s Day themed issue in February of 2012, to our previous publication. This issue, we’re taking a different spin and Julia Ryan gives us some useless facts . . . about herself! Cocoa powder makes me think of mars. I'm allergic to dogs, which is totally okay with me! I can only raise one eyebrow. I adore babies. My fingernail is dented from my many door-slamming adventures as a kid. If ice cream didn't exist, neither would I. I still like Clifford! After quitting piano at 7, I'm trying it again at 16. History is my favorite subject! I'm always checking to see what time it is. I'd die without clocks!! My first tooth didn't come out until I was 8. My favorite Disney movie is either Mary Poppins or Saving Mr. Banks. They are like one long movie though, right? I'm not an extrovert, but not fully and introvert either! I love school. I have blue eyes . . . or are they green? I don't know! Library day is my favorite day. I would love to travel! Especially west. I talk to Amanda every. Single. Day. And love it! Another editor’s note: The feeling is mutual. I live for summer . . . and try to sleep all winter.
