'Joseph' – a reflection
It has been suggested that I share with you the 'poem' with which I concluded
the 9.00am service on 25 October, the penultimate week of our study of the
'Joseph story'. That week's theme was 'Forgiveness and Reconciliation' and I
wanted to convey that our study also requires practical application.
David Browning
If you were at church on the 8 th September,
then I'm sure that you will remember,
we showed a film that was rather groovy;
a lavish production – 'Joseph' – the movie!
“What's it about?” Do I hear you say,
you couldn’t make it on that day?
That's a shame, but the answer is this -
'It's based on a story from Genesis'.
I expect it's a story you well know,
about things that happened a long time ago -
(probably the equivalent, in its day,
of 'EastEnders', 'Neighbours', or 'Home and Away'.)
It's a story of a dozen brothers,
who between them had four mothers!
'Jealousy' was therefore rife
and caused the family lots of strife!
Their father, Jacob, tried to cope,
but, peace among brothers? - little hope!
The odds were stacked at eleven to one -
Against young Joseph - Jacob's favourite son!
When Jacob gave Joseph a coloured coat,
that really got 'the brothers' goat'
Now they hated brother Joe,
because their father loved him so.
