Letter from the editor
The “come back” year
2015 is maybe best summarised as a “come back” year. After several years
of absence the Surbiton Trophy returned to the ATP calendar with gusto,
proving a very popular addition to the grass court calendar for players and
spectators alike. Our County Cup teams, Open and Junior also had a very
successful year with the Surrey Ladies returning to Group 1 this year and
claiming the title, and three Junior teams becoming national champions.
Tennis across the county also continues to boom with the Lawn Tennis
Association’s Great British Tennis Weekend being well supported as well
as a plethora of other tennis competition and events taking place for
those of all ages, stages and ability in the game.
I hope that this year’s account of 2015 and some of the successes
of our players and places to play inspires you to pick up that racket
Weekend - 2015
Tennis in Surrey interviewed three of the county’s places to play on how they
got involved with the 2015 Great British Tennis Weekend (GBTW). We hope
even more will be involved next year.
Dorking Lawn Tennis
and Squash Club, Surrey
9 courts
Sunday 14th June
How did you prepare for the
GBTW?
We promoted our event in many
ways. Many magazine adverts
in months prior to event such
as Families, which are free
publications telling families
what’s going on. Local parish
magazines. Every local school
had parent mail in two weeks
preceding the event. This was
combined with a demo mini
tennis court being set up in the
middle of St Martins Walk, a
shopping centre. This attracted
much attention. Leaflets were
also given out then by members
wearing green printed t shirts
advertising the day. We spoke
much of the Blue Peter Sports
badge where if you take a photo
of a friend trying a new sport you
gain this badge.
What did you do for the day?
On the day we ran a specific U8
session, for which there was a
huge turnout. Up to a hundred
children. Ball machine, fastest
serve, a group of “hitters”, adults
to play against anyone wishing to
play. Three courts were dedicated
to juniors with mini nets on these.
Face painting run by a volunteer.
Barbecue and ice creams. Tea,
coffee and home-made cakes made
by the members available all day.
Voluntary donations were asked
for to go towards our charity. The
Bar was of course open and our
Craft table was VERY popular! We
also had two coaches and the rest
was run by volunteers who were
members.
How did you encourage new
players to the game?
On the day offers included a 3 and
9 month membership. One adult
would allow all their children to
join free. This was followed up
with an induction session and
tennis coaching groups offered
specifically to them. Also events
such as Wimbledon Day and an
American Tournament for all
members timed to encourage
participation. 65 adults and 65
juniors joined. Well over 200
people attended on the day.
Why do you think the day was
a success?
We had two teams of “meet-er and
greeters”. They wore the green
t shirts and badges and would
welcome anyone in.
It was an amazing day which
really brought all sections of the
club together. Whether it was
through lending a racket, baking
a cake, dropping leaflets through
doors or being prepared to hit
against someone wanting to play
we couldn’t have done it without
such a team effort. Many of the
older juniors helped to coach and
those that had said they would
give an hour of their time ended
up staying for the day. It was a
success because of the joint effort
everyone gave and combined
“family feel” the day had.
16th and 17th May
How did you prepare for the
GBTW?
We printed 2000 leaflets - four
primary schools and leaflet
dropped, including posters
around the local area, My Merton
magazine, Facebook, Twitter, the
GBTW website, regularly emailed
the internal database and most
importantly WORD OF MOUTH!
We used the GBTW logo but also
did our own flyers to add more
details about the day.
What did you do for the day?
We ran Mini Tennis Red/Orange/
Green, Junior Tennis, Adult
Beginners, Tennis Xpress, Cardio
Tennis, Match Play, Family Time,
Free Play. We also provided Face
painting, Table Tennis, Swing Ball,
BBQ, Prince were there to support
the event, and a popular fastest
serve competition.
Coaches worked the event and
we had them doing the sessions
we feel they do best. We had older
juniors to assist the coaches, bar
staff, as well as volunteers to do
face painting and the BBQ. Our
volunteers did the meet, greet and
played tennis with potential new
members. Committee members
sold memberships, all round it
was a great team effort!
How did you encourage new
players to the game?
We offered seven sessions half
price (this was for all the sessions
we currently have available).
No joining fee on full adult
membership. Tennis Xpress £35
for seven sessions and they didn’t
have to join, Ten Cardio Tennis
Sessions for £50. Saving £20.
What do you think made the
weekend a success?
GBTW website is great, the banner
was really popular. Online sign up
was good, very few people called,
they all booked online. It was a
great weekend for adults, children
and the whole family.
Epsom Lawn Tennis
Club, Epsom and Ewell
12 courts
Saturday 25 April, 2015
How did you prepare for the
GBTW?
We had a large banner outside the
site, also advertised in the Epsom
Guardian, through posters in
Sainsburys, in the coffee shops at
Epsom train station, and through
three local primary schools
newsletters.
What did you do for the day?
We ran free coaching with the
Head Coach, playing tennis with
the adult ‘social members’, other
coaches practiced with other
juniors. We had a BBQ going as well
as cakes and tea on offer. We had
two coaches on site (volunteering),
and around ten club volunteers
looking after guests and sorting out
tennis for them.
Why do you think the day was
a success?
The main banner outside the club
worked very well as was highly
visible from the road – the LTA
website/social media was useful
as well. The Epsom Open Day was
a fantastic success, with the most
ever attendees we have had at an
Open Day and most sign ups. It was
very refreshing to see a real mix of
adults and juniors across a range of
tennis experience and ability.
A Day with Judy Murray
In June this year, Judy Murray
invited female coaches from
across Surrey to join her for a
coach education day. The day
offered a 10 & Under camp for girls
across the county and the South
East and included a school session
for secondary aged players. Judy’s
aim was to encourage female Level
1, 2 or 3 coaches from clubs in
Surrey to get on court with her and
hopefully help to inspire the next
generation of female players.
Tennis in Surrey spoke to Kate
Maurici, of Will to Win Sheen
Common, about her experience of
the day.
“Judy has a knack of making you
feel very relaxed and like you
really deserve to be a tennis coach.
I loved Judy’s first metaphor of
the day that women are like
snowflakes, drifting. If they
meet something hard they can
often melt and disappear but
if they collect together with
other snowflakes they become
something strong and invincible.
The day at Surbiton really felt
like that. Judy calmly led a group
of top County junior players
through their paces in front of a
group of female coaches keeping
it fun, focussed and competitive.
The smiles on the girls’ faces
really showed that Judy’s methods
work. Key messages for coaches
came across very clearly like
people
‘don’t overburden the girls with
verbal instructions’, ‘intelligent
players will self-correct - ask them
to come up with the solution’,
and in terms of school’s tennis,
‘give the children fun, achievable
exercises’. I have since tried out
her basic racket warm up with
a school group with resounding
success. Judy makes you re-think
your coaching style. We all know
our sessions need to be fun but
I think that it’s easy quickly to
revert to the standard coaching
styles, which sometimes lack that
relaxed element. I was reminded
Judy calmly led a group of top
County junior players through their paces
in front of a group of female coaches
keeping it fun, focussed and competitive. ”
on the day, that even top players
can learn and improve their
technique while having a lot
of fun.
I believe that coaches, female
and male, need to listen to
what she is saying if we want to
promote our sport to more girls.
It’s not dumbing the coaching
down for girls, but recognising
that we can appeal to more girls
and get more out of them by
employing methods that the girls
find exciting and enjoyable. I left
feeling part of a really strong and
successful team.”
Tennis Surrey welcomes a
new President – John Phillips
Following in the footsteps of the
County’s previous President, Tony
Scarlett, was always going to be
a challenge after Tony’s years of
great service to Tennis Surrey. So
we are delighted to announce the
appointment of our new President,
John Phillips, as someone who
will be well able to do this. John’s
appointment started from the
1st October this year and we are
delighted that Tony is going to
remain on the Council.
John will already be familiar
to many of you as the County’s
Competitions Secretary, a post from
which John resigned last year whilst
still remaining on the Council.
His history with the Council goes
back a long way, with John first
being elected in 1977, having been
nominated by Reigate LTC.
John was at once appointed to
the Competitions Committee,
on which he has continued to
serve ever since, becoming Hon.
Competition’s Secretary in 1997.
John oversaw the introduction of
many new events, particularly in
the senior age groups, as well as
overseeing the Wilson Leagues
being moved on-line following
years of manual work. He has been
responsible for running numerous
events, both summer and winter, in
particular the Men’s Open Singles
which he has managed since
summer 1978.
John was appointed
Examinations Officer in 1980 -
where he was responsible for the
Part 1 coaching course and exam –
and in 1984 this role was increased
to having responsibility for setting
up and running the entire course..
John held this role until his
resignation in 2000. He took over
the role of County Tournament
Organiser in the mid-eighties and
held this role for 20 years.
John’s main contribution
has been to the County postal
competitions. Whilst these events
always attract entries from leading
county and national players, John
has always maintained that they
are primarily for the benefit of
ordinary club players who are
members of Surrey registered clubs.
Entry to these events is one of the
benefits for clubs and other organisations
registering with Surrey. As
you will see from the above, no one
could have worked harder for the
County over the years. We hope
that Surrey Clubs will welcome
John as our new President and that
over the course of his presidency
many of you will get to meet him.
A Month in life of Surrey Player
Emily Appleton
people
Tennis in Surrey spoke earlier this year to Emily Appleton, one of the county’s
rising tennis stars, and asked her and her family to recall one particularly
note-worthy month both on and off court.
The month of August this year had
been a great month of fabulous
matches and new experiences. The
month started with an ITF Junior
event in Portugal and some good
training matches on the red clay
against tough local opposition
who train daily on ‘the dirt’. Still
a long way to go on this surface,
according to Emily, but she
managed to win her way through
a few rounds and add to her
experience of the clay court game.
This was followed by Emily’s
first match in the Main Draw
of a $10,000 Pro Series event in
Chiswick, London. A tough first
round draw saw her face Gabriela
Van De Graaf, a 21 year old from
the Netherlands, ranked 1100 in
the WTA/ITF Women. Emily played
a great match and came through
victorious 6-4 7-6(2). In the second
round she drew the number 1 seed,
Katy Dunne, ranked 326 and from
the UK. Once again Emily played
a good match and whilst she lost
2-6 2-6, she put on a good display
of tennis and showed that she has
huge potential in the game.
The middle of August was taken
up by the Nike Junior Nationals,
which were once again held in
Nottingham. Emily had a fabulous
week and came away with both
the 16U National Singles title and
the 18U National Doubles title –
an excellent performance with
Emily managing to keep her focus
whilst waiting for GCSE results on
the semi final day, and likewise,
keeping her focus on finals day
knowing that she had secured
herself 10 A*s!
Following one day’s rest, Emily
was back on the court preparing
herself for a Main Draw Wild Card
place in the $25,000 Pro event
in Woking. The first round saw
her play fellow Brit, Beth Askew,
ranked 760 WTA. Emily played
exceptionally well and secured
a 6-4 6-4 win and a place in the
second round. Once again this
meant a match against the no
1 seed, in this case 31 year old,
Ana Vrljic, from Croatia (ranked
238 WTA). Emily stepped up
to the mark and put in a fine
performance. She lost the first set
and went 2-4 down in the second.
However, she showed her inner
strength to take the second set 7-5
but was unable to overcome the
experience of her opponent in
the third. Nevertheless, another
excellent performance and which
sees her one step closer to securing
Aegon Team Tennis
Aegon Team Tennis Surrey was
once again a huge success with
582 teams taking part, who were
from 94 clubs from around Surrey.
Huge congratulations must go
to all the clubs that won their
respective divisions in the County
Tier of the competition.
A particular mention goes to
Southwark Tennis Club 10U Team
who won 46 out of 48 rubbers
and put in some impressive
performances to win Division 2H in
the 10U Boys category. This resulted
in them winning Aegon Team of
the year Division 2 onwards at our
Surrey Junior Awards.
Aegon Team Tennis is a
nationwide competition, and
some of Surrey’s top teams will
take part in the Premier Divisions.
Sutton Tennis Academy’s 12U
Boys Team made a great run to
the final, winning their regional
group and beating some very
strong teams along the way.
Although they lost out in the
Grand Final to Northumberland
on a shootout, their performance
throughout the competition
was exceptional and led to them
winning Aegon Team of the year
Premier and Division 1 at the
Surrey Junior Awards. Wilton
Tennis Club, a four court venue in
South West London, were the No.2
seeds and successfully navigated
their way past strong competition
to capture the National Title.
Team Manager Terry Oakes: “I
am so proud of a group of young
ladies who displayed phenomenal
skill, determination and, above all,
team spirit. I should also like to
commend all at Holcombe Brook
for their graciousness and their
part in what was a magnificent
advert for the concept of Team
Tennis.”
As well as providing lots of
matches for our players, we also
encourage the competition to
be played in good spirit so that
players enjoy the experience and
team environment that they are
a part of. It was great to receive
feedback from clubs about how
they were made to feel welcome
at matches by their opponents.
Hopefully it will lead to these
players and parents/organisers
being involved in tennis much
more. One club we felt were
especially worthy of the Aegon
Team Tennis Hospitality Club of
the year award was Brightwell LTC.
Many congratulations to them.
We hope that Aegon Team
Tennis Surrey can go from
strength to strength in the years
to come.
Road to Wimbledon Club and
County Stages
This year saw a great number
of entries from Surrey venues
Competition. Once the venue
stage of the competition had
been completed, we had over 150
players taking part in our County
Finals Stage, this took place over
4 weekends at Sutton Tennis
Academy and St George’s College
in Weybridge, where Referee Mike
job in running a great event. It was
a busy few weeks, with some great
tennis on display, but eventually
we were left with two players, who
won the Boys and Girls Events
respectively.
Road to Wimbledon Regional
Carl-Jamie Bashiri and Leah
Gonzales-Edwards
Our County Stage Winners were
in action at Wimbledon during
August. Carl-Jamie was runner-up
of the Boys Consolation and won
the Boys Doubles. Leah also did
fantastically as she reached the
quarter finals of the Girls Main
draw and was victorious in the
girls doubles. Results can be found
on the HSBC Road to Wimbledon
Road to Wimbledon continues
to be a flagship event in the Tennis
A big thank you must go to all
The joy of taking on admin help
at Wigmore Lawn Tennis Club
While I’m sure everyone would
agree that it is marvellous to
have a popular club with a
thriving coaching programme
and growing membership,
success doesn’t come without its
challenges! In all spheres of sport,
it seems to be getting harder and
harder to find volunteers to help
run clubs, particularly on the
administrative front. Having grown
in membership from around 500
to 800 within four years and now
with a growing waiting list for
new adult members (there is no
limit on junior memberships),
Wigmore decided that the time
had finally come to invest in paying
for administrative help to ease the
admin burden on its volunteers.
We advertised for part-time
help through a specialist on-line
agency and received a large
number applications from good
candidates, so there is definitely
interest ‘out there’ in part-time
admin work! We have taken on an
Administration Manager for the
club who works for us on a selfemployed,
part-time basis. She has
the flexibility to work from her
home or at our club and chooses
the hours and days that she works
– advertising when she will be
at the club to answer members’
queries or meet prospective
members on our club website.
This doesn’t mean that the
committee are shirking from their
work in running the club – quite
the opposite; it gives us more time
to focus on the bigger picture and
the future direction of the club
rather than get bogged down
in the day to day nitty gritty of
reminding members to pay their
dues / be at the club to meet the
gasman for meter readings etc
(which is also hard when most of
the committee are at work during
the day). I know that many clubs
rely solely on volunteers, but if your
club is struggling to keep on top
of the admin work, I recommend
you pull in some outside help, it is
certainly bringing joy to Wigmore’s
The return of
the good life
The Aegon Surbiton Trophy returns to the ATP
calendar. Surrey Great, Ross Hutchins, and Fed Cup
Coach Judy Murray, talk of their memories of the
event over the years.
Photos: Katrina Smith and Tom Smeeth
Summer marked the return of The
Aegon Surbiton Trophy to Surbiton
Racket and Fitness Club. After
an absence of eight years from
the Tour, a host of international
and top British players arrived in
South West London to compete
in the prestigious grass court
event. The Surbiton Trophy has a
long history of top players with
previous competitors including
Andy Roddick, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga,
Martina Navratilova and Sue
Barker to name just a few. The 2015
field included British talent such as
James Ward, Liam Broady and Dan
Evans and in the Ladies’ draw Tara
Moore and Naomi Broady joined
an exciting international field.
Club Director Roy Staniland,
who was instrumental in the event
returning to the players’ calendar,
has vivid memories of some of
the stars he’s previously seen
competing for The Surbiton Trophy
and said, “Roger Federer stands out
as someone who you could see had
a great future ahead of him but
so do the likes of Kei Nishikori, Ivo
Karlovic and even Andy Murray
all of whom have played on our
grass courts.”
The Club itself operates like
many other tennis clubs in the
local area but when hosting
an international event plenty
needed to be done so the players,
the crowd and the members
could enjoy the facilities. When
asked about preparation, Roy
explains: “we started planning
months in advance with various
governing bodies but thanks
to the professionalism of our
partners and dedication of our
army of volunteers who were
mostly members everything went
without a hitch. The attention to
detail meant we had to work with
players, ball crews, spectators,
caterers, local authority, residents
and plenty more all in the space of
a few hours.”
British Fed Cup Captain, Judy
Murray, who knows what it’s like
to be in the Surbiton crowd as she
watched her son Andy, recalls,
“I remember Andy playing here
as a teenager in the run up to
Wimbledon. It was a wonderful
experience to play in front of
a packed crowd on grass and
looking out today you’ll see lots
of the stars of the future here.”
I walk past the courts and remember
battles I’ve had out there, I’ve got very fond
memories of this event”
Judy could have been looking at
USA prospect Stefan Kozlov, Denis
Kudla who is now close to the top
50 in the world, eventual finalist
Naomi Osaka who won The WTA
Rising Stars event or winner Vitalia
Diachenko who went on to play
Serena Williams at the US Open.
On the court there were great
matches watched by capacity
crowds but attracting over two
thousand locals was the kids’ zone
which is designed to attract the
next generation of British stars.
Organised by Surbiton Racket and
Fitness Club, it was a huge success
as busloads of school children had
their serve timed, participated in
lessons and watched the tennis
all for free. One person delighted
with the activities is The Lawn
Tennis Association Chief Executive,
Michael Downey, who experienced
the Aegon Surbiton Trophy for the
first time. Commenting on the
event, he said, “The numbers of
kids who have played here is quite
significant and it introduces them
to our sport at a young age. I’m
sure they’ll go home and pick up
a racket after seeing the stars of
the future playing and having a go
themselves.”
British hopes for the tournament
took a huge blow when several
of the bigger names suffered
shock exits but we did see success,
including domination in the
doubles thanks to the Skupski
brothers on the men’s side and
Tara Moore and Nicola Slater on
the ladies’. Many of the members
were delighted to be able to get up
close to the action, with players
and spectators sharing the same
restaurant and all of them were
more than happy to stop and talk
about life on the tour.
British player Ross Hutchins
reached the top of the doubles but
since retiring has taken up the
role of ATP Vice President of Player
Relations which means he has to
visit plenty of tournaments and
speak with competitors about their
experience. Ross gave a glowing
report: “The players love playing
here because the grass courts
are real quality with a very true
bounce. Surbiton is a very homely
and unique place so it’s lovely
to be back.” He then went on to
reminisce about being a former
competitor, adding: “I walk past
the courts and remember battles
I’ve had our there, I’ve got very
fond memories of this event.”
The finals weekend of the 2015
Aegon Surbiton Trophy saw a
thrilling men’s battle between
Denis Kudla and Matthew Ebden,
both of whom attacked and serve
volleyed in a throwback to the
grass court tennis of years gone
by. It was Ebden who won 6-7, 6-4,
7-6, including a last set come back
from 5-2 down. On the ladies’ side,
Vitalia Diatchenko proved too
strong for Naomi Osaka with the
youngster putting up a good fight
in the first set but struggling with
the pace in the second with the
score finishing 7-6, 6-0. The doubles
had a British feel about it as Ken
and Neal Skupski beat Marcus
Daniell and Marcelo Demoliner 6-3,
6-4 but it wasn’t to be in the ladies
as Tara Moore and Nicola Slater
were defeated 7-6, 6-3 by Lyudmyla
Kichenok and Xenia Knoll.
Planning has already started for
the 2016 Aegon Surbiton Trophy
which promises to be bigger and
better than ever before. If you
didn’t manage to make it down to
The final day…
“Going into Sunday we knew if
we beat Kent we would win the
division for the first time in nine
years. The girls took this situation
teams was noticeably weaker this
year with our traditional rivals,
Herts and Kent, three or four
players short of full strength. And
our match results reflected this. A
6-3 victory vs Herts and a 5-1 victory
vs defending champions Kent were
as easy as the scores suggest.
Add to that a 7-2 victory vs
newly promoted Suffolk, and an
8-1 victory vs Lancs, and the week
was seemingly a stroll in the park.
However, Derbyshire on Day two
proved to be our downfall. It was
a very tight match with many
rubbers hinging on one or two
key points. Playing an abbreviated
scoring system of two sets and a
Champions tiebreak due to the
weather only further favoured
the chance of an upset and so it
proved. Surrey were 2-1 down at
lunch, which was pulled back to
3-3 at tea.
The final round, in my opinion,
gave Surrey a slight edge but it
wasn’t to be as the Derby boys
raised their games to emerge
on incredibly well with wins from
Gemma and Jodie in straight
sets and Emily and Jas in three
sets leaving us up 4-2 after the
singles. The scene was set for the
undefeated pairing of Emily and
Jodie to bring the trophy home.
victorious. The Derby team
contained no real superstars, but
as is the saying, the team were
greater than the sum of all its
individuals.
They battled fantastically well,
and collectively fought 100%, and
in the end just about deserved
their 5-4 victory.
Sadly for Surrey, no other County
were able to beat Derby although
they did have two further very
close 5-4 victories to contend with.
But it was their week, where all
the tight matches seemed to go in
their favour.
Once again, our team were
a joy to work with. A mixture
of experience and youth with
all members playing their part.
And so, even though Surrey won
more rubbers, sets and games
than Derby, it was the Derby men
that lifted the trophy for the
first time in their history. Many
congratulations to them, but I’m
certain it will be Surrey holding
Tennis Surrey Patron’s
Association
The Surrey Patrons’ Association
was founded in 1968. Initially there
were twenty nine members and
over the years this has increased
to a full membership of nine
hundred and ninety nine. The aim
of the founders was to assist in
supporting Junior Tennis in the
County. The Association currently
supports promising Junior
players and assists coaches with
advancing their qualifications.
We sponsor the Surrey Junior
Championships and have recently
made grants to Clubs purchasing
defibrillators. We also contribute to
recognised charities where Clubs
are sponsoring events on their
behalf. Members of the Association
are able to participate in a ballot
for Wimbledon tickets and enjoy
social functions. There follows a
brief resumé of those for 2015.
Tennis Surrey Patrons have had
a very good year for social events,
with an extremely well attended
lunch at the RAF Club in Piccadilly
in April and a full turnout for a
tour of the All England Club in
September. There is also a dinner
to follow at the Burford Bridge
Hotel in Dorking in December.
The lunch at the RAF Club was
attended by ninety two Patrons
including, most especially,
Rex Poland, a rear gunner on
Lancasters during WW2. It was also
Rex’s 90th birthday so we arranged
a special birthday cake with a
model Lancaster on the top of it. It
was a privilege to have Rex there
with us. During the lunch, Patrons
were given a most interesting talk
about Bomber Command by Group
Captain Mike Neville of the RAF
Benevolent Fund. When lunch was
over, Group Captain Hill took many
of the Patrons across the road into
Green Park to visit the Bomber
Command Memorial there. All in
all it was a memorable occasion.
It is the second time we
have arranged a tour of the All
England Club for Patrons. We also
arranged one in April 2014 and
were amazed when this event was
“sold out” within a few days of it
being announced. We therefore
wondered whether we might
successfully repeat this event this
year - and again, the event was a
complete “sell out”. The day started
with coffee in the Wingfield
Restaurant followed by a visit to
the All England museum. This is
a very inter-active experience that
everyone found fascinating. We
booked two tours of the Club (of
forty people each) which set off at
1pm and enabled Patrons to see
parts of the All England that the
general public normally never get
to see. When the tours returned, a
delicious cream tea was laid out in
the Terrace Restaurant to round off
the day.
Further details are available from
the Patrons’ Secretary, Peter Lane.
Surrey Junior Awards 2015
Tennis Surrey held its inaugural Junior Awards Ceremony on Saturday
afternoon, 10 October 2015.
Progress and Endeavour Awards
for both girls and boys have
traditionally been presented at
the Surrey AGM at the beginning
of December. The County decided
to give these Awards a higher
profile at a Ceremony dedicated
to the celebration of junior tennis
in Surrey, and took advantage of
the opportunity to add some new
categories.
The Junior Awards Ceremony
took place in the Champions Room
at the All England Club where
the winners and their guests were
treated to a guided tour of the
grounds by Dan Bloxham, the Head
Coach at the Club, followed by
presentation of the awards by the
County’s President, John Phillips,
and a traditional cream tea.
The occasion was very well
received by all who attended and
looks to be a set fixture in the
County calendar for future years.
