sociedade society EM FOCO FOCUS Quem se Importa é a quarta longa-metragem da realizadora brasileira Mara Mourão e mostra o trabalho de 18 empreendedores sociais cujas ideias visionárias transformaram milhões de vidas. São pessoas reais – algumas delas são grandes nomes como Muhammed Yunus (Nobel da Paz 2006) ou Bill Drayton da Ashoka - capazes não só de mudar a sociedade, mas também de causar o impacto social para que essas ideias possam transformar- -se em políticas públicas. A relação de Mara Mourão com o empreendedorismo social é antiga. All of them are real people. Some of them are famous like Muhammed Yunus (winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006) and Bill Drayton of Ashoka – people capable of not only changing society but also making a social impact with ideas that often metamorphose into state policy. The link between Mara Mourão and social entrepreneurship goes back a long way. Her husband is chairman of Ashoka, a pioneering international organization that fosters innovative business ideas. “For many years I’d been hearing stories about people making a hugely positive impact in the places where they lived. Gradually, I started to work on the idea of making a film about them”. She puts entrepreneurs on different levels. If the person does something on a large scale that affects millions of lives, then they are considered to be a social entrepreneur. If it’s on a smaller scale, then they’re known as a transformer or change-maker. She considers herself, therefore, to be social transformer, stressing that “we are all capable of being transformers and creating some kind of positive social impact according to our means”. Aos poucos, fui amadurecendo a ideia de fazer um filme sobre elas”. Considera haver empreendedores de vários níveis. Se a pessoa faz um trabalho em grande escala e afecta milhões de vidas, é um empreendedor social. Se faz em escala menor, é chamada de transformador ou agente de mudança. Auto-titula-se, por isso, uma transformadora social, reforçando que “todos nós podemos ser transformadores e causar impacto social positivo dentro da nossa medida”. Antes de fazer o filme era uma pessoa muito mais céptica e acomodada. Acreditava que os grandes problemas da humanidade eram “impossíveis de ser resolvidos” e a frase «vamos mudar o mundo» “piegas e infantil”. “Hoje, conheço pessoas que já estão a mudar o mundo. E elas começaram pelo primeiro passo que é acreditar que é possível. Depois de entrevistar estes líderes sociais, vi que basta arregaçar as mangas e partir para a acção”. Before making the film, she was much more sceptical and complacent. She believed that humanity’s biggest problems were “impossible to be solved and considered the expression let’s change the world to be both “futile and childish”. “Today, I know people who are already changing the world and their very first step was simply to believe that something was actually possible. After interviewing all the social leaders in the film, I saw that it’s just a simple case of rolling up one’s sleeves and getting on with it”. A film with social impact The director feels that the level of social impact created by films isn’t solely about box office success. “For instance, Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth raised an important issue about climate change. And the documentary Super Size Me by Morgan Spurlock also had low ticket sales but eventually caused the McDonald’s fast-food chain to change its menus. The social impact of cinema can be very powerful. I really like that and I plan to use cinema as an art form in order to motivate people to make a positive change”. 62 áfrica today nº129 Ano 2015
