lead hull, Yantar, was laid down on 8 July 2010,<br />
launched in December 2012, sea trials and<br />
delivery to the Navy was planned for 2014.<br />
Yantar concluded sea trials in early 2015, was<br />
commissioned, and embarked on its maiden<br />
voyage into the Atlantic in August 2015 to<br />
further test all <strong>of</strong> its installed equipment.<br />
YANTAR is an ocean-going vessel intended<br />
for conducting research globally throughout<br />
the water column and at the ocean floor. It<br />
will carry two manned deep submergence<br />
vehicles capable <strong>of</strong> working at 6,000-meter<br />
depths. The desire for additional units has<br />
been voiced but no further developments<br />
have been observed.<br />
