The <strong>Turtle</strong> <strong>Survival</strong> Center (TSC) provides the TSA with the much-needed ability to manage<br />

its captive assurance colony programs from a single location and to build healthy, self-sustaining captive<br />

populations for many turtle and tortoise species that have little or no chance for survival in the wild.<br />

SEPTEMBER<br />

Sulawesi (Indonesia) endemic species.<br />

It provides tropical conditions due to<br />

JANUARY<br />

Hatchling Grow-out Room is outfitted with<br />

a water recirculation and filtration system<br />

for low-maintenance rearing of the many<br />

anticipated hatchlings.<br />

AUGUST<br />

Nathan Haislip, Facilities Manager<br />

and Lead Keeper, arrives at the<br />

<strong>Turtle</strong> <strong>Survival</strong> Center.<br />

The veterinary clinic undergoes substantial<br />

renovations. The updates include increasing<br />

functionality for hospitalization and quarantine,<br />

converting the exam room into a digital<br />

radiography suite, doubling the size of animal<br />

holding areas, and adding outdoor enclosures<br />

for tortoises.<br />

NOVEMBER<br />

Axel joins the security detail at the<br />

<strong>Turtle</strong> <strong>Survival</strong> Center.<br />

FEBRUARY<br />

Gravel added to the driveway to aid with<br />

water drainage and aesthetics on the <strong>Turtle</strong><br />

<strong>Survival</strong> Center property.<br />

MARCH<br />

Cuora Complex is completed. This complex<br />

serves as the breeding center for our collection<br />

of rare Asian box turtles, some of which are<br />

possibly extinct in the wild. This facility will<br />

allow for strict genetic management by<br />

maintaining species in pairs. The complex<br />

features double layers of security to protect<br />

against theft and predation.<br />
