For more than 20
years, Estate Safari Tours
has been taking visitors and
residents around Antigua to
enjoy the well-known and
lesser known sights. But
more than that, their staff of
knowledgeable and entertaining
guides make sure
that their passengers come
to appreciate the island for
all its special attributes.
Their tours, conducted
in air-conditioned 4x4
A sumptuous lunch featuring
local cuisine at a private
restaurant in Parham
is part of the day tour.
jeeps, include visits to major
historic sites such as
Nelson’s Dockyard, Shirley
Heights, Devil’s Bridge, and
Betty’s Hope. Unlike most
tours, however, they also take
people into Parham, a
charming village that was the
first capital of the island.
There they have their own
restaurant where travelers
are treated to lunch before a
visit to the St. Peter’s
Cathedral, built in 1840 using
timbers from a slave galley.
The trip is not complete
without a stop at a
beach for some sea and
sun—either Ffryes or Long
Bay, depending on which
side of the island the tour
OUT AND ABOUT 15
originates from. After this,
the journey winds back
through the rainforest and
returns guests to their original
boarding point.
The day tour starts
at 9:00 a.m. and is completed
by about 3:30 p.m., with
pickups at the hotels for visitors,
and at the
Multipurpose Cultural
Centre for local residents.
This tour length allows for a
leisurely drive with stops at
major vantage points for
photos as well as time to
stroll around the historic
sites and lunch. Cost for the
tour is US$95, and a lower
rate for local residents is
available.
