ESCC Awarded Institutes of Excellence Grant to Address Cybersecurity
ESCC has been awarded a Virginia Community College System’s Institutes of Excellence Grant that will assist Wallops
Island area employers to address Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity certification staff requirements. This
project will not only help to certify the current workforce but will also create a pipeline of potential employees with
required certifications.
“This class will offer an exceptional value,” says John Floyd, Assistant Professor of Electronics and Computer
Technology. “A voucher to take the certification test will be included in tuition. Unemployed or low-income students
may qualify for tuition assistance from the WIOA program as well.”
The project will take advantage of the recent expansion of ESCC’s Pearson VUE testing center
so that Shore residents can take certification tests right here on the ESCC campus.
The first class to be held in the Wallops area will help people to prepare for CompTIA Security+
certification. The class will be held in spring 2016 on Saturdays.
