About the course
The GCSE Religious Studies course is split into two units, each
assessed through a two-hour exam at the end of Year 11.
In Unit 1 pupils will study the diversity of beliefs and practices within
Christianity and Islam. In Unit 2 pupils will study non-religious world
views and consider issues in the philosophy of religion. This includes
exploring ideas about the nature of truth and arguments for and
against the existence of God. Pupils will also consider the relationship
between religion and conflict and study a range of Christian, Muslim
and secular perspectives on ethical and social issues.
About the course
The GCSE Spanish course aims to further develop pupils’ language
skills, explore themes introduced at Key Stage 3 and enable them to
express ideas and opinions in spoken and written form.
Areas of study include lifestyle and relationships, equality, media,
leisure activities and technology. Pupils will build on their knowledge
of language patterns and so increase their understanding of
Spanish-speaking across several continents.
SPANISH
Pupils’ ability to understand and communicate in Spanish will
be assessed in a variety of ways, including role plays, short
conversations and responding to short messages and longer texts.
Controlled assessments will take place towards the end of the course,
but pupils’ progress will be checked at regular intervals.
