complained of increasing
to join the JI's massive campaign
against corruption, he
said. The JI leader added that
no nation can progress on the
basis of foreign loans. Only
ruling regimes and their families
are only beneficiaries of
these foreign heavy loans.
Earlier Pir Sahab Pagara
warmly welcomed the JI
chief. Speaking on the occasion
he announced to join the
JI's movement against corruption.
He strictly criticized
the government for its failure
in maintaining law and order.
Pakistan should be corruption
free and the basic needs
of people should be met by
the government, he said.
Rashdi was of the view
that maintaining law and
order is not the police department's
cup of tea. He said
that the government has put
the burden of its obligations
on the Rangers and army. On
the other hand the government
itself is creating hurdles
for them in discharging their
duties.
PIA privatization not in
larger national interest: PCS
KARACHI, Jan 30: It is an
irony that Pakistan is being
transformed into corporate
state instead of welfare state.
The privatization of state
owned establishments like
PIA appears to be a step to
meet the objective of corporate
setup of the country.
This was stated by the chairman
of Pakistan Civic
Society, Mahfooz-un-Nabi
Khan in a statement issued
on Saturday.
He said that the privatization
through sale of national
assets is not the solution of
the economic problems
being faced by the country,
specially when no significant
investment is coming to
Pakistan. Mahfooz said: “In
this situation, the public sector
should continue to play
its role in national economy.
The privatization or rightsizing
of government sector
establishments will be disastrous
and bound to create
further unemployment in
society. In the context of
national career PIA's privatization
is not in the larger
national interest. “
Timely detection key to save
leprosy patients from disability
KRACHI, Jan 30: Consultant leprosy specialist at Marie
Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC) Dr Mutahir Zia on Saturday
said leprosy control program Pakistan has registered 56,500
leprosy patients since its inception and 98 percent of them have
successfully completed their treatment. This he said while
addressing an awareness seminar on leprosy in the connection
of World Leprosy Day 2016, organized by Marie Adelaide
Leprosy Centre (MALC) at Pakistan America Culture Center.
Founder Member of MALC Dr Ruth Pfau, Dr Chris
Schmotzer, Mervyn Lobu, Dr Ali Murtaza also spoke.
harassment and discrimination
in the Muslim-dominated
country in recent years,
including the destruction or
desecration of their places of
worship.
Talking to media Maharaj
Hira Lal condemned the
demolition and demanded
the government protect the
rights of minority groups.
He also called for action
to be taken against those
who demolished the temple
and demanded government
to hand over the security to
the rangers like other worship
places.
Residents and members
of the Hindu community
said police escort knocked
down the small temple
along with some surrounding
buildings.
which is not admissible in evidence.
In the meeting it has been noticed that number
of explosive material cases are being tried in
ATC. “In order to convict an accused, the Law
requires a laboratory report to be produced
reflecting that the material, which was recovered
from accused, was explosive in nature,”
The Chair, therefore, directed the chief
Secretary Sindh to take immediate steps
for establishing the laboratory so that the
cases in ATC should not fail on that
account. There is poor infrastructure in
regard to chemical examiner laboratory,
which is not based on modern scientific system.
Even the chemical examiner, who is head of such
laboratory, does not have the required expertise
nor qualification to hold such an office under the
rules, which fact was taken note of by the
Supreme Court in a pending matter.
The chair directed the chief secretary Sindh to
ensure that the office of chemical examiner
should be filled by a person having qualifications
provided under the rules and the laboratory
should be equipped with the modern technology,
as the reports of the nature has far reaching
effects on the criminal trial.
otherwise, action would
be taken against negligent
police officers.
He on the occasion ordered
that officials should play their
role for eradication of drugs
dens, gambling dens and other
social evils. If any credible
information or complaint was
received the concerned SHO
would not only be made
responsible but his name
those who were exposed after
publicizing the final report of
Prof Dr Abdul Qadir Rajpoot
conducted on NED
University's financial crises
last year.
It was a misery that no
action could be taken against
the responsible of financial
deficits so far, even the recommendations
were presented
by Abdul Qadir Khan
including de-motion of illegal
promoters, illegal deduction
of insurance group from
employees' salaries and issuing
the withheld benefits to
employees.
“Deduction of insurance
payment from University's
employees without providing
any insurance cover or other
benefits to employees is
clearly the violation of the
Gazette of Pakistan as the
insurance policy had been
suspended since last three
years due to non-payment to
EFU Insurance Company
from the NED University's
Administration,” said Usman.
that to Census was not subject
of federation but it was
subject of Council of
announcing to carry out
census in country the federal
government has violated
constitution, supreme court
being guardian of constitution
can take suo moto
notice of it. He was delivering
lecture on constitutional
position of census.
Lecture was arranged by
Hyderabad Union of
Ahmed Wassan from
University of Kent, U.K delivered
the seminar.
Speaking on this occasion,
Dr. Wassan said, the quality
assurance is the act of giving
confidence, the state of being
certain or the act of making
certain. Quality Assurance:
The planned and systematic
activities implemented in a
quality system so that quality
requirements for a service will
Adding language column
the federal government
wanted to cause ethnic
unrest in Sindh. He said the
functions of federation are
divided in 2 parts one of
federal cabinet and other of
CCI which comprises 4
chief ministers and 4 representatives
of federal government.
He said the census
is carried for planning and
development which department
is not federal subject.
He said 50 subject have
been given to provinces
while federal government
has only 6 subjects after
18th amendment. He also
said that water and power,
oil and gas are provincial
subjects but federal government
has set up ministries
to run these. He said likewise
the subject of election
also was not of federation
and also NADRA has nothing
to do with federation as
be fulfilled. The purpose of
essence of research is to serve
the community and country.
He said, there is difference
between research culture of
Pakistan and developed world.
He said, the parameters of
quality assurance are the provision
of educational advisor,
senior tutors. Help desk are
very essential. He remarked
that course work, semester policy
are also its main parts. He
appreciated the efforts of Vice
Chancellor Prof. Dr. Parveen
Shah for the establishment of
the Directorate of Post
Graduate Studies. He also
appreciated the role of this
Directorate working on modern
lines as per criteria set by
it is carried for registration
of citizens that is subject of
province. He said in 1997
supreme court had given
judgment that WAPDA was
subject of CCI but this
decision has still not been
followed and not handed to
CCI which is constitutional
body of both provinces and
federation. He was of the
view that when an army
general usurps chair of
prime minister he commits
sedition in that sense if the
federal government headed
by prime minster usurps
powers census of
provinces he commits violation
under article 6 of
constitution. However he
said the matter of federal
government’s intervention
on census would be taken
with political leadership of
Sindh and petition would
be filed in higher judiciary
to get justice.
Exercise: Is more always better?
ISLAMABAD, Jan 30: If a
little exercise is good, then
more is better in terms of
calorie burn and weight loss,
right? That's what most of us
tend to believe.
But it's not necessarily
true, a research team says.
They found that people who
exercise a lot don't burn
extra calories for their
efforts beyond a certain
point. Their new study is
published in Current
Biology.
Don't drop that gym
membership just yet,
though. WebMD asked two
experts to discuss these findings
and the role of exercise.
The experts include the
study's lead researcher,
On one point both agree:
The new research is not discouraging
exercise, which is
crucial to keeping your body
and mind healthy. But it
does provide more evidence
that diet, not exercise, is the
key to losing weight.
Pontzer and his team
measured the daily activity
levels of more than 300 men
and women -- along with
how many calories they
burned -- over the course of
a week. They came from
five different countries
across Africa and North
America: the U.S., Ghana,
Jamaica, the Seychelles, and
South Africa. People in
some of those nations tend
to be more physically active
than many Americans.
The researchers had
everyone's body mass index
(BMI). They measured
activity and calorie burning
for a week, but didn't track
whether people gained or
lost weight.
Exercise did have an
effect on how many calories
people used, called energy
expenditure. But the amount
of calories burned didn't
increase dramatically as
people got more exercise.
Those who had a moderate
activity level burned a few
more calories daily, on average
around 200, compared
with the most inactive people.
But those who exercised
beyond the moderate activity
level saw no effect of their
extra effort as far as how
many calories they burned.
Although the study didn't
define ''moderate'' in hours
of activity, Pontzer describes
moderate exercisers as those
who are active ''but not serious
athletes" -- someone
who walks a couple miles a
day or bikes to work and
back, for example.
Pontzer's team did find
that those with higher body
fat percentages actually
burned more calories with
exercise -- presumably, he
says, because there is more
fat to burn.
The study didn't focus on
this specifically, but Pontzer
says exercise ''can be part of
a successful weight loss
strategy. We need to think
about exercise and diet as
two different tools."
"Exercise is good at lots
of things, such as maintaining
heart health," he says.
"Diet is going to be the better
tool for managing your
weight."
The findings may show
that the inactive lifestyle of
many Americans hasn't contributed
as much to the
nation's obesity epidemic as
public health officials
believe, Melanson says. He
stresses that the study does
not prove that, but simply
adds information to the
ongoing debate about why
Americans are so overweight.
The study finding, in
Melanson's view, seems to
tip the scale a bit more
toward overeating, not
under-exercising, to
explain the current U.S.
obesity epidemic.
Yes, Pontzer says. "If
you are more active, your
body might be adapting,''
he says. "We hit an energy
expenditure plateau. It's
part of the reason your
body adapts to your new
exercise routine." That may
be why many find it so hard
to lose weight, he says.
But, he believes, there
is such a thing as an exercise
"sweet spot" -- the
point at which workout
benefits, including calories
burned, peak. That
spot is probably different
for everyone, Pontzer
says, although the new
study didn't look into that.

War casualties of hundreds of millions in 20th century!
Nuclear powers’ 21st century more dangerous!?
UNPRINCIPLED expansionism without required
spiritualism against balancing a reasonable living
was root cause of deaths, injuries and lifelong
paralysis for millions of people in past century.
STRANGE that those very governments and invading
forces possessing and using most dangerous arms, armaments,
weapons and warfare equipment which caused
war casualties of hundreds of millions in 20th century are
now pressurizing and boycotting other anti-oppression
and non-invader countries to stop peaceful and principled
measures?
PARADOX is that 20th century progress also
increased human casualties and several wars, violence
and revolutions continued right into start of 21st century
all of which, progress suggests, need to get out of senseless
adventures without required dialogues, diplomacy
and reforms, suggestive of a human nature.
ISLAM’s various personal, opportunist and un-
Islamic interpretations kept misleading Muslim world,
democracy clashed with kingdoms, and revolutions took
place, in Tunisia and Egypt, with Libyan strongman gone
and Mali having fallen to military invasions of foreign
powers, followed by protests in Bahrain and civil war in
Syria, with Iraq and Afghanistan entangled and Yemen
attacked by Saudi Arab. Drone attacks have not earned
grace or honour for Pakistan: All of this shows a roughly
estimated number of persons who died in major wars,
massacres, slaughters and oppressions of the 20th century,
and gives an idea of casualties that might occur, with
increased militarism, with more nuclear bombs, equipment
and weapons, in 21st century compared to past one.
258 MILLION: Rudolph J. Rummel in Death By
Government says "Democides", government inflicted
deaths between 1900 to 1987 were 169,198,000. This
included communist oppression at 110,286,000 and democratic
democides at 2,028,000. Not included among
democides are war deaths at 34,021,000, non-democidal
famine (often including famines associated with war and
communist mismanagement): In China, these in years
1900 to 1987 were 49,275,000 and in Russia between
1921 to 1947 were 5,833,000. Total was still 258,327,000
(258 million) for all the categories listed here.
203 MILLION: According to M. Cherif Bassouni,
there were 33 million "military casualties", 170 million
killed in "conflicts of a non-international character, internal
conflicts and tyrannical regime victimization")
including 86M since the Second World War. Total
203,000,000 (203M)!
By Michala Bendixen
Last August, I wrote an article for the
Guardian, under the headline: ‘Refugees
should head for Denmark — here are
five reasons why’. It created a media storm in
Denmark; within 24 hours, I had appeared on
every national broadcast media. On the political
TV programme Deadline, I was confronted
by the host: “Do you not acknowledge that a
majority of the Danish voters are in favour of
a strict asylum policy?”
I received emails and Facebook messages
accusing me of being “a traitor” for listing the
advantages of my country and mentioning the
fact that many refugees have told me how they
have met welcoming, open-minded and helpful
Danes. Inviting people to come to your
country and praising your country’s benefits is
usually called patriotism. But things have
been turned upside down and Denmark is now
in competition for the title to be the least
attractive country for asylum seekers.
The Scandinavian countries face a difficult
dilemma. They have always been proud of
their human rights standards, equality and
social welfare. But if too many people are
coming from outside, the balance of the taxbased
welfare system is tipping and the triballike
culture feels threatened. So, on the one
hand, Danes have to respect the conventions
and grant Syrians and Eritreans asylum. On
the other hand, they want to scare them away,
which is what has been happening.
First there were the adverts posted by the
Danish government in Lebanese papers,
informing refugees of Denmark’s strict asylum
rules. These ads were later deemed to be
unlawfully misleading by Denmark’s own
ombudsman. It worked, however, and in
September, we saw thousands of refugees
passing through Denmark on the train, on their
way to Sweden, holding up signs saying: “No
Denmark”.
This time, the country has gone too far and
its diplomatic position is in danger.
Denmark’s humane image was later somewhat
restored by the touching photo of a Danish
policeman playing on the motorway with a
small Syrian girl. But soon after, one small
part of the new asylum bill caught the attention
of the international media. The nice
Danish police officers are supposed to search
refugees on arrival and seize their valuables,
OPINION
175 MILLION: As per former US secretary of state,
Zbigniew Brzezinski: "Lives deliberately extinguished
by politically motivated carnage" numbered between
167,000,000 to 175,000,000 including war dead up to
87,500,000, military war dead at 33,500,000, civilian
war dead 54,000,000, non-war dead 80,000,000 and
communist oppression 60,000,000.
100 MILLION: Stephane Courtis says victims of
communism were only 85 to 100M.
142 MILLION: Milton Leitenberg: Politically caused
deaths in the 20th century were between 214M to 226M,
including deaths in wars and conflicts such as civilians
130M to 142M and political deaths from 1945 to 2000
were 50M to 51M.
45.5 MILLION: David Barrett, World Christian
Encyclopedia, 2001, records Christian martyrs only
45.5M.
16 MILLION: Not The Enemy Media: Killed through
U.S. foreign policy since WWII, as of July 2003 were
10,778,727 to 16,861,695 between 1945 to May 2003.
HISTORICAL Atlas of the Twentieth Century:
Matthew White in year 2010 wrote about deaths by war
and oppression including “war intentional famine” and
man-made famine during the 20th century: During
wartime these were 37 million of military type, 27 million
of collateral type, with 41 million democide in
wartime and 40 million during peacetime. Besides
famine claimed 18 million during wartime and 40 million
in peacetime. All that made a total of 203 million.
ESTIMATE for the Communist share of the 20th century's
unpleasantness: Genocide and tyranny 29M,
including intentional famine, man-made famine 41M
(this excluded intentional famine) including both
wartime and peacetime. Communist-inspired war (for
example the Russian civil war, Vietnam, Korea etc).
Military 7m, civilian (collateral) 10m, total 87M deaths
by Communism. Residue 116M deaths by non-
Communism.
IF materialism is checked into reasonable limits by
spiritualism, many of destructive wars may perhaps be
avoided. Otherwise, Karbala is an example in Islamic
history, and Mideast cum big powers’ war mongering
without sufficient reasons and under false pretexts such
as on Syria right now, may not yield any better results,
especially with Lebanon and Iran angle, with Russia and
China on the backup, and 21st century may have nuclear
wars and destruction, the like of which was not witnessed
by the world since billions of years up to now.
Denmark’s selfish stance on refugees
to pay for accommodation. This led to comparisons
with the Nazis confiscating possessions
from Jewish people during the Second
World War. The Danish government was much
too slow to assure people that wedding rings
would not be confiscated.
Seizing jewellery was never meant as a serious
way of funding the cost of asylum. The
government knows that very few people have
anything left when they arrive at Danish borders.
And even if they did, this wouldn’t cover
the expensive Danish asylum system. Asylum
seekers are forced to stay in remote camps and
are not allowed to work — a bureaucratic and
institutionalising system, which leaves people
feeling passive and frustrated. They are not
even allowed to rent a room on their own even
if they have the means.
Coverage of jewel issue took all the attention
away from the more serious parts of the
bill. The most draconian one is a three-year
waiting period to apply for family reunification.
Even the Danish state’s own Institute of
Human Rights says this is a direct breach of
Article 8 of the European convention on
human rights. Other elements of the bill
include: Tougher requirements to obtain permanent
residency (leaving a great part of
refugees without a chance of ever getting it); a
reduction from five to two years stay for
refugees; abolition of the access to housing
outside the camps for families with children;
and tightening the rules for withdrawal of a
residence permit.
The bill was passed last week with broad
support from all right-wing parties, and more
surprisingly, also the leading opposition party,
the Social Democrats, in spite of hard resistance
from individuals. In the eyes of Danish
politicians, for the majority of Danish voters,
their old welfare state is more important than
solidarity with the world. If the Danes want to
maintain a society that takes care of the weak,
the politicians are afraid the people cannot
handle too many refugees. The question is,
then, who should take care of them, if not a
rich country like Denmark?
Denmark has often been a world leader on
immigration issues, and other European countries
will probably follow our downward path.
But this time we have gone too far and our
diplomatic position is in danger. Our selfish
stance offers no help at all in solving the global
refugee crisis.
AMMAN/GENEVA, Jan 30:
A delegation from Syria's
its traditional sphere of influence.
His visits to Peru and
Ecuador are the first-ever by a
Turkish president and the stop
in Chile is the first since late
president Suleyman Demirel
travelled there back in 1995.
Regional and international
issues will be on the agenda
during talks with the leaders
of South America, where
Erdogan is also expected to
attend business forums to
intensify economic links.
Erdogan had already in
February 2015 visited Cuba,
Colombia and Mexico.
The Turkish president's
itinerary will take him to
Chile and then Peru before
wrapping up his visit in
Ecuador, the presidency said,
adding that the trip "shows the
importance we attach to the
countries of Latin America."
- 'Long-term ambition' -
Turkey is seeking to diversify
its partners beyond its traditional
sphere of influence
within the bounds of the former
Ottoman Empire in the
Middle East and the Balkans,
analysts say.
"The visit is part of
Turkey's longer term ambition
to expand its presence in Latin
America, both to increase
Turkish influence globally
and also to reach out to new
potential trade partners," said
Aaron Stein, a senior fellow at
the Atlantic Council, a US
think tank.
With its opening to Latin
America, Turkey appears to
want to forge new alliances in
new regions at a time of tricky
ties with the United States, the
European Union and Russia.
One of Turkey's major
trade partners, Russia has
imposed sanctions against
Ankara after one of its war
jets was shot down in
November on the border with
Syria.
Stein said the trip to Latin
America aimed at diversifying
Turkey's ties.
"It is part of Turkey's overarching
ambition to deepen its
relations with a range of
actors, independent of its
alliance with the United States
and individual EU member
countries," he told.
"It is a continuation of a
foreign policy trend put in
place in the mid-2000s."
16 more starve to death in
7.3 quake strike
Russia’s far eastern
Syria's besieged Madaya: MSF
Kamchatka Region
MOSCOW, Jan 30: A
BEIRUT, Jan 30: At least 16
more people have died of starvation
in the besieged Syrian
town of Madaya since an aid
convoy entered earlier this
month, according to Doctors
Without Borders (MSF).
Several dozen more residents
of the town are in "danger
of death" because of
severe malnutrition, the
humanitarian group warned.
The latest deaths bring the
number of people reported to
have died of starvation in
Madaya to 46 since
December, according to MSF.
But the medical charity
said the real toll could be
even higher.
"MSF has clear medical
reporting for 46 starvation
deaths since December 1,"
the group said in a statement..
"The real number is
almost certainly higher, as
MSF is aware of reports of
people dying of starvation in
their homes."
Located in Damascus
province, Madaya is under
government siege, and its fate
has been one of the sticking
points for fresh peace talks on
the Syrian conflict that
opened on Friday after
delays. Syria's opposition
wants to see the implementation
of UN Security Council
resolutions demanding an end
to sieges in the country before
committing to new negotiations.
Madaya is one of four
towns included in a rare deal
last year that was intended to
halt fighting and allow the
entry of humanitarian aid.
But despite the deal, the
UN and other aid groups have
had only limited access to
Madaya, along with rebelheld
Zabadani, and the government-held
towns of Fuaa
and Kafraya, which are under
opposition siege.
Conditions in Madaya
have reportedly been among
the worst, with about 42,000
civilians there surrounded by
government troops who have
laid mines around the town to
prevent people leaving.
strong, deep 7.0-magnitude
earthquake rocked Russia’s
far eastern Kamchatka peninsula
on Saturday, the US
Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit 106 kilometers
north of
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy,
the capital city of Russia’s
Kamchatka Krai. The depth
of the earthquake was reported
at 153 kilometers. There
have been no immediate
reports of serious damage or
casualties. No tsunami warning
has been issued.
The area was hit with at
least seven aftershocks since
the event, Kamchatka’s
Geophysical Service said.
Five of them measured 2.0
and above, according to a
spokesman. The remaining
too - 4.5 and 5.2, respectively.
Rescue crews are searching
and inspecting buildings,
TASS quoted an emergency
services spokesperson as
saying. “There have been no
reports of damage yet,” Yulia
Ananyeva said.
Minister Gennady Gatilov
was quoted by Russian
Interfax news agency as saying
that no direct talks were
expected in Syria, only proxy
talks.
Gatilov, whose country
has also objected to the opposition's
composition saying it
included groups that it
deemed as terrorist, said
there were no preconditions
for the Syrian talks and that
Moscow welcomed the decision
by Syrian opposition
coordinator, Riad Hijab, to
take part in talks in Geneva.
The U.N. earlier said the
aim would be six months of
talks, first seeking a ceasefire,
later working toward a
political settlement to a war
that has killed more than
250,000 people, driven more
than 10 million from their
homes and drawn in global
powers
German Foreign Minister
Frank-Walter Steinmeier told
German newspaper Welt am
Sonntag the negotiations
would be test of intentions.
Petrol bombs
thrown outside Greek
minister's house
ATHENS, Jan 30: A group of
unknown assailants threw
makeshift petrol bombs outside
the house of a Greek
minister in central Athens
early on Saturday, causing
damage but no injuries,
police officials said.
The attack took place outside
the house of State
Minister Alekos Flabouraris,
a top adviser to Prime
Minister Alexis Tsipras, in
the downtown area of
Exarchia, a police official
said.
A car which belonged to
Flabouraris' security team
parked outside his house
was burned and another was
seriously damaged, the official
said. The ruling leftist
Syriza party condemned the
attack, saying that it will not
undermine democracy in the
country.
Attacks against politicians,
banks and business
people are not uncommon in
Greece, which has a long
history of political violence.
I'm Hindu: Anupam Kher
MUMBAI, Jan 30: Veteran
actor Anupam Kher has been
on the forefront of the ‘antiintolerance’
debate in India of
late. He was also known for
harshly criticising Aamir
Khan for his statement on
intolerance. Surprisingly,
however Kher has now openly
admitted to being scared of
calling himself a Hindu in his
own nation.
Have the tables turned?
In an interview with IBN
Live, the actor confessed that
he fears “saying I’m a Hindu”.
“In this country, I’m scared
to say that if I wear a tilak
(mark worn by a Hindu on the
forehead to indicate caste,
sect) and a gerua (saffron colored
clothes), then I will be
branded as an RSS (right-wing
party) guy or a BJP fanatic,”
said Kher.
And though he agreed that
it is hypocritical on his part to
WASHINGTON, Jan 30: The
US State Department conceded
for the first time that intelligence
officials were correct
to say that at least 22 emails
sent through Hillary Clinton's
private server contain some
of the government's most sensitive
secrets.
The seven email chains
from Clinton's time as secretary
of state, amounting to 22
separate messages, will be
withheld from the public as a
result because the information
in them is classified at
the highest level as "top
secret," State Department
spokesman John Kirby said.
The announcement came
three days before the Iowa
caucuses, when the first votes
are cast for the presidential
nominations and where
Clinton is locked in a tight
race with Vermont Senator
Bernie Sanders to become the
Democratic nominee for the
November election.
"These documents were
not marked classified at the
time that they were sent,"
Kirby said. He added that the
department was now investigating
whether the information
in them was classified at
the time it passed through her
keep flip flopping statements,
the state of politics is such that
it leaves him no choice.
People soon took to Twitter
to express their sentiments
regarding Kher’s statement.
And this isn’t the first time
Kher has changed stance on a
matter. He was recently called
out on Twitter for his U-turn
on the Padma Awrads —
private clintonemail.com
email account run on a server
in her New York home.
The department and intelligence
officials have been
arguing about the emails,
which are being made public
under a federal court order,
for at least five months. The
State Department initially
maintained that Clinton
might have obtained the same
information independently
through non-classified channels.
The decision to no longer
pursue this argument will add
to the questions Clinton has
faced for months over her Republican
handling of sensitive government
information as she seeks
to maintain her position as the
favorite to become the
Democratic nominee.
The Clinton campaign
criticized the State
Department's decision as the
result of "bureaucratic
infighting" and "over-classification
run amok," adding that
the emails should be released.
Some information has
been censored in more than
1,300 emails already made
public because the State
Department says it is classified,
including the privately
which he vehemently opposed
in 2010, but reveled in the
honour soon after being
awarded one this year.
The actor cleared the air
and said that that was because
at the time one of the chosen
awardees had a history of
criminal records and should
not have been given the
award.
US declares 22 Clinton
emails 'top secret'
shared thoughts of foreign
leaders and government officials.
But this is the first time
that entire chains are being
withheld.
C o n g r e s s i o n a l
Republicans have criticized
and investigated Clinton for
her use of a private email
server for her work as a secretary
of state from 2009 to
2013. Some of her
Republican rivals for the
presidency, including New
Jersey Governor Chris
Christie, have called for her
prosecution.
Reince Priebus, the
National
Committee's chairman, said
in a statement that Clinton
had "put our national security
and diplomatic efforts at
risk."
The government forbids
handling of classified information,
which may or may
not be marked that way, outside
secure government-controlled
channels, and sometimes
prosecutes people who
remove it from such channels.
The government classifies
information as top secret
if it deems a leak could cause
"exceptionally grave damage"
to national security.
Swiss say $4 billion misappropriated
from Malaysian state firms
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 30:
About $4bn (£2.8bn) may
have been stolen from a fund
owned by the Malaysian
state, a prosecutor says.
The 1MDB fund was set
up in 2009 to pay for major
new economic and social
developments in Malaysia.
Last year, Swiss authorities
opened an investigation
into 1MDB after it amassed
more than $11bn (£7bn) of
debt.
Switzerland's attorney
general said on Friday there
were "serious indications
that funds have been misappropriated
from Malaysian
state companies".
Some of the money, the
office of Michael Lauber
said, had been transferred to
Swiss accounts held by
Malaysian former public
officials and current and former
public officials from the
United Arab Emirates.
"To date, however, the
Malaysian companies concerned
have made no comment
on the losses they are
believed to have incurred,"
the attorney general's statement
said (in German).
Mr Lauber called on
Malaysian authorities to
give full judicial assistance
to their Swiss counterparts.
A Swiss investigation
into 1MDB was opened last
year, citing "suspected corruption
of public foreign
officials, dishonest management
of public interests and
money laundering".
In a statement on
Saturday, 1MDB said it
"remains committed to fully
co-operating with any lawful
authority and investigation",
but had not yet heard
from any foreign legal
authorities. Regulators in
the US and Hong Kong are
also reported to be investigating
1MDB.
The fund's advisory
board is chaired by Prime
Minister Najib Razak, who
launched 1MDB soon after
taking office in 2009.
Almost 40 dead after migrant boat sinks off Turkey
ANKARA, Jan 30: Almost 40
people drowned and 75 were
rescued after a boat carrying
migrants to Greece sank off
Turkey's western coast on
Saturday, according to local
officials and the Turkish
Dogan news agency.
More than one million
refugees and migrants arrived
in the European Union last
year and some 3,600 died or
went missing, forcing the EU
to mull suspending its
Schengen open-borders area
for up to two years.
The Turkish coast guard
was continuing search and rescue
efforts where the 17-metre
boat carrying at least 120 people
sank off the coast of
Ayvacik, a town across from
the Greek island of Lesvos, the
Dogan news agency reported.
"I am afraid the numbers
will rise as divers continue the
search," Mehmet Unal Sahin,
the mayor of Ayvacik, told the
CNNTurk news channel by
phone.
"Local people woke up to
the sound of screaming
migrants and we have been
carrying out rescue work since
dawn. We have an 80-kilometre-long
coast just across from
Lesbos, which is very hard to
keep under control."
At least five of those who
died were children, Dogan
reported, while rescued
migrants were hospitalized
with hypothermia symptoms.
It said the migrants were of
Syrian, Afghan and Myanmar
origin.
Chancellor Angela Merkel,
who opened Germany's borders
to Syrians fleeing civil
war last summer, is under
mounting pressure to halt the
inflow.
Merkel told a meeting of a
members of her Christian
Democratic Union party on
Saturday that despite efforts to
help refugees, it was important
to stress that they had only
been given permission for a
limited stay.
"We need ...to say to people
that this is a temporary residential
status and we expect
that once there is peace in
Syria again, once IS has been
defeated in Iraq, that you go
back to your home country."
Around 500,000 refugees
from the five-year-old war in
Syria traveled through
Turkey and then risked their
lives at sea to reach Greek
islands in 2015.
Under pressure from the
European Commission about
delays, Greece expects to
have four of five "hot spot"
centers for processing
migrants operational in about
two weeks, its migration minister
said in a newspaper
interview published on
Saturday.
"We are behind schedule
on the installation of these hot
spots," Greece's Yiannis
Mouzalas told Austrian newspaper
Der Standard. "Four of
the five will be operational
from mid-February."
Neighboring Turkey is
hosting 2.5 million Syrian
refugees. In November it
struck a deal with the EU
pledging to help stem the
flow of migrants to Europe in
return for 3 billion euros
($3.3 billion) in financial aid
and renewed talks on joining
the 28-nation bloc.

KARACHI, Jan 30: The
Union of Small and Medium
Enterprises (UNISAME) on
Saturday endorsed the proposal
of the Small and
Medium Enterprises
Development Authority
(SMEDA) to the Ministry of
Industries and Production
(MoI&P) for the development
of the SMEs. The
KOSGEB model of Turkey
has been recognized the
world over as the best model
for SMEs development and
adopted by many countries.
President UNISAME
Zulfikar Thaver said in a
statement that the Small
and Medium Enterprises
Development Organization
called KOSGEB in Turkey
was established in 1990 and
had played a key role in
increasing the share of the
SMEs in the economy and
also improve their effectiveness.
He said UNISAME was
very happy that SMEDA had
closely studied the SME promotion
and development of
Turkey and had proposed to
the MoI&P to adopt the tools
for SME promotion and
development in Pakistan.
"The SME sector deserves
priority and support of the
government to modernize
and increase productivity.
Pakistan like Turkey needs to
strengthen SMEDA and
make it an instrument to
reach the SMEs."
He said: "The SME sector
must be enabled to meet the
growing challenges to compete
and this can be achieved
by facilitating the sector to
grow and develop on modern
lines. SMEDA has wisely
proposed to the MoI&P to
support, facilitate, educate,
finance and motivate the
majority sector to enable
them grow he stated in a
message to the MoI&P.
UNISAME has urged the
MoI&P to impress upon the
cabinet the need to recognize
the growing issues of unemployment,
poverty and lack
of information and take
remedial measures promptly.
The influx of new graduates,
the lack of job opportunities,
the slow industrialization
calls for self employment
and entrepreneurship for
resolving the issues."
Thaver said: "The finance
for start ups fund announced
in India of Rs 1.5 billion dollars
is an eye opener for us
and SMEDA's proposal covers
many aspects of support
for start ups, existing units
and value addition and need
serious consideration.
Thaver added the urgent
need for access to affordable
finance for the micro entrepreneurs
as well and called
upon the government to promote
microfinance on modern
lines. He emphasized the
need for financing the
agrobased units for value
addition, the import substitution
industries,alternate energy
devices and above all
education to fill the technological
gap."
and Power, delivered his lecture
on 'Water- Economic
Lifeline for Pakistan' and said
water has a special significance
for Pakistan's agriculture-based
economy as 23%
of GDP comes from agriculture
and is the main source of
sustenance for our rural population
forming 55% of the
whole.
'Pakistan receives an average
of 144 Million Acre Feet
(MAF) of fresh water annually
from the Indus River system
comprising the Indus
main and its tributaries. Out of
this 104 MAF is diverted to
the canal irrigation system of
the Indus Basin. Another 50
MAF of water used for irrigation
and domestic water supply
is drawn from groundwater
sources,' added Hamid.
Central Council Member
of ICAI CA. J. Venkateswarlu
from India said regional integration
in South Asia has
remained weak on all fronts,
and even in the face of pressing
needs, regional cooperation
on water and energy, for
instance, barely gets the kind
of attention that it deserves.
He was delivering his lecture
on “Trade and
Investment: Opportunities and
Challenges”. 'On trade, the
story is even worse. Intraregional
trade in Asia (as a
geographic block) constitutes
around 56 percent of the total
trade, whereas the SouthAsian
intra-regional trade-share hovers
below the five percent
mark,' he added.
Nadeem Babar - Chief
Executive Officer, Orient
Power Co. (Pvt) Ltd while
giving his presentation on
“Corridor of Opportunities for
Energy” said global demand
will grow by 40 per cent during
2007-2030 with coal use
rising most in absolute terms.
Talking about the trend in
South Asia he said over 29%
population is without electricity;
this is 37% of the world
population.
Kinnow growers
association meets
SARGODHA, Jan 30: The
meeting of Kinnow Growers
Association (KGA) was held
here with Abid Mumtaz
Warraich in the chair to
review problems being faced
by Kinnow growers.
The meeting was attended
by director Citrus
Research Institute Altaf-ul-
Rehman, Malik Abdul
Rehman, Dr Basharat
Hussain, Syed Munir
Sherazi, Ahmed Khan
Ranjha and various other
association members.
The participants of the
meeting showed severe
reservations over low rates
of kinnow in the market
although the production was
very much low due to pests
and diseases but the rates
were low according to
demand.
The association stressed
the government to take solid
steps to support the dying
citrus industry in the area as
farmers were unable to even
meet the produce expenditures.
Director Citrus Institute
Alta-ul-Rehman briefed the
participants about the modern
way of pruning by
adopting which the risk of
pests and diseases will be
lower.
He said that most of the
farmers were unaware of the
modern techniques of cultivation
which causes in low
production as well as the
risk of diseases attack also
remained high in old techniques.
ISLAMABAD, Jan 28: The
(AMCs) to comply with
additional regulatory requirements
EU commends
Pakistan for reaping
GSP Plus benefits TOKYO, Jan 30: Toyota
ISLAMABAD, Jan 30:
The
European
Commission has commended
Pakistan for reaping
more benefits than any
other beneficiary of GSP
Plus status.
According to European
Commission's report on its
GSP Scheme covering the
period 2014-2015,
Pakistan contributed to 70
per cent of European
Union's total imports
under GSP Plus scheme in
2014.
It said Pakistan's products
have duty free access
in twenty-eight countries
of the European Union.
The report lauded
improvement in human
rights and declining trend
in child labour in Pakistan.
Foreign exchange reserves
on increasing trend: Wathra
KARACHI, Jan 30: State
Bank of Pakistan has
announced to continue existing
six percent interest rate
for next two months to stabilize
the economy.
Announcing the next two
month monetary policy,
Governor State Bank of
KARACHI, Jan 30: The
major macroeconomic indicators
continued to exhibit
improvements in the first
half of the current fiscal year,
said State Bank of Pakistan
(SBP) in a monetary statement
issued here Saturday.
The inflationary environment
stayed benign, LSM
gained traction, and fiscal
consolidation remained on
track. In addition, successful
completion of ninth review
under IMF's EFF and disbursements
from multilateral
and bilateral sources added
on to country's external
buffers. With the pickup in
private sector credit, for
fixed investment in particular,
along with improving
security situation reflects
strengthening of investor and
consumer confidence.
Average CPI inflation has
declined to 2.1 percent during
July-December 2015,
with perishable food items
and motor fuel leading the
way. Meanwhile trend in
YoY CPI inflation has
reversed; it rose for third
consecutive month to 3.2
percent in December 2015.
Keeping in view the benign
outlook of global commodity
prices, expectation of a moderate
pickup in domestic
demand and further ease in
supply side constraints, SBP
Pakistan Ashraf Wathra in
Karachi on Saturday said
foreign exchange reserves
are on increasing trend and
said that last year’s growth
rate is expected to be continuing
this year.
He said that borrowing by
private sector has increased
expects the average inflation
in FY16 to remain in the
range of 3 to 4 percent.
However, global oil price
trends and excess domestic
food stocks (wheat, rice, and
sugar) may exert downward
pressures on inflation.
Large-scale manufacturing
(LSM) grew by 4.4 percent
during Jul-Nov FY16 as
compared to 3.1 percent in
the same period last year.
LSM mainly benefitted from
monetary easing, falling
international prices of key
inputs, better energy situation,
increased domestic
demand for consumer
durables, and expansion of
construction activities. There
are challenges to overall economic
performance from the
declines in the production of
cotton and rice. However, a
part of these losses could be
offset by better performance
of other crops, especially
from the upcoming wheat
crop. In view of these developments,
real GDP is set to
maintain the previous year's
and the local as well foreign
investment has also
increased. Reduction in
items of daily use has given
impetus to the business.
He said that if there is
bumper wheat crop this year
it will have positive impact
on national economy.
Macroeconomic indicators improving: SBP
ISLAMABAD, Jan 30: The
United Business Group
(UBG) of FPCCI on
Saturday demanded of the
government to immediately
pass on benefit of the receding
oil prices in international
market which will provide
relief to masses and the business
community.
Oil prices had been on the
decline due to global oversupply
and sluggish
demand, but domestic oil
prices did not show any substantial
drop, it said
Prices of petrol and diesel
should be slashed by Rs 10
while kerosene oil price
must be reduced by Rs 15
per litre as it is used by poor
people for lighting and
cooking, said Chairman
UBG Iftikhar Ali Malik and
Central Spokesman Zubair
Tufail.
In a statement issued here
, they said that reduction in
POL prices will benefit millions
of people using public
transport besides benefitting
every sphere of the economy.
Since petrol and diesel
meet 85pc of the fuel
requirement in domestic
transportation, lower product
prices may create additional
demand for automobiles.
Reduced prices will also
discourage the use of coal
which is most polluted form
of fuel which will have an
impact on the environment.
Iftikhar Ali Malik said
that government should
deregulate petroleum market
growth momentum. The
uptick in economic activity
appears to continue beyond
FY16 on the back of energy
and infrastructure projects
under CPEC.
Pakistan's overall balance
of payment position continued
to strengthen in H1-
FY16. The external current
account deficit narrowed
down to almost half of the
last year's level on account of
persistent decline in international
oil price and steady
growth in workers' remittances.
In the capital and
financial accounts, besides
strong official inflows, there
is some improvement in foreign
direct investment.
Given depressed outlook
of international commodity
prices, the external current
account deficit is expected to
remain lower than last year.
With continuation of the
IMF EFF and expected disbursements
from other official
sources, the surplus in
capital and financial
accounts may increase in the
second half of FY16. These
are expected to have favorable
impact on foreign
exchange reserves.
Furthermore, expected
increase in FDI from China
may help maintain an
upward trajectory in foreign
exchange reserves.
Govt should deregulate oil market
to improve quality of fuel
and safeguard interests of
consumers.
Presently, roughly 40 percent
of the lubricant market
is captured by the fake and
substandard items which
translates into losses of billion
for motorists and industrialists
annually, he added.
Malik also demanded
more attention to the
pipeline projects as energy
crisis is eating up two percent
of the GDP which is not
bearable.
Demand for fossil fuels
will grow by 25 percent by
2040 for which our policymakers
should plan immediately,
he said adding that
Thar has more energy than
combined energy available
in Saudi Arabia and Iran.
SECP sets additional regulatory requirements for AMCs
Motor Corp said on
Saturday it may halt production
at its domestic
plants early next month due
to a steel shortage, following
an explosion at a steel
plant operated by one of its
affiliates.
The blast an Aichi Steel
plant has curbed production
of steel parts, which
may impact output at the
world's best-selling
automaker which produces
around 40 percent of its
global output in Japan.
"At the moment, there is
enough supply inventory to
keep our domestic plants
running until Feb. 6," a
Toyota spokesman said,
adding that overtime and
weekend shifts for next
week had been canceled.
"After that, we will be
monitoring our supply situation
on a day-by-day basis
and decide accordingly."
Aichi Steel said that the
Jan. 8 explosion at its Chita
plant in central Japan dented
production of special
steel parts. It added that it
aimed to resume operations
in March.
funds and income funds in
line with the policy recommendations
of International
Organization of Securities
Commissions (IOSCO)
The SECP believes that
these regulatory reforms
which cover the key principles
of liquidity and credit
risk will ensure protection of
unit holders interests and
enhance the safety of the
mutual funds industry during
periods of market distress. As
per the new requirements, the
AMCs shall conduct appropriate
stress testing on the
portfolios of money market
and income funds based on
certain hypothetical or historical
events .The AMCs shall
also establish procedures to
identify their clients based on
past behavior and needs.
Toyota may halt Japan car output in
February due to steel shortage
Toyota, whose vehicle
stable includes the Toyota
and Lexus brands, as well
as Daihatsu Motor Co
minivehicles and Hino
Motors trucks, produced
4.0 million vehicles in
Japan in 2015, roughly 46
percent of which were
exported.
A stoppage in production
may impact Toyota's
plans to produce 4.13 million
vehicles in the country
this year, including its new
Prius gasoline hybrid,
which was launched in the
United States this month
and is produced solely in
Japan.
Toyota plans to build
10.2 million vehicles
worldwide this year, after
posting worldwide sales of
10.15 million in 2015,
beating out Volkswagen
and other automakers to
keep its title as the world's
largest-selling carmaker.
Toyota, which manufactures
around 14,000 vehicles
a day in Japan, would
not comment on which
components were supplied
by steel made at the affected
plant.

Pakistan hopes to win
Auckland clash Kiwis
MELBOURNE,
AUCKLAND, Jan 30: This
tour ending where it began -
in Auckland - may lead to
good vibes taking hold in
the Pakistan camp. They
have been outclassed so far,
but their solitary win of the
trip came at Eden Park.
Their previous ODI at the
venue also brought success,
as they defended 222
against South Africa during
the World Cup. New
Zealand have been so consistent
it is hard to imagine
this - but could a long, rainaffected
break between
ODIs also snap the hosts'
momentum? Pakistan can
no longer win the series, but
they may not have minded a
few extra days to recover
from that rough loss at the
Basin Reserve.
For a touring team,
Pakistan seem to be wellversed
in the peculiarities of
this unique rugby-cricket
venue. In the T20 they
played here, the batsmen did
not seem over-eager to clear
those short boundaries, as
Malik's foot inflammation not serious
AUCKLAND: Pakistan allrounder Shoaib Malik has stated that the foot
inflammation that kept him out of the first ODI against New Zealand in
Wellington was a minor injury and that he had wanted to play the game but was
advised rest by the team management. Malik also revealed that he played the preceding
three-match T20 series with painkillers and a strapped foot. His selection
for the third ODI in Auckland on Sunday will be determined by a fitness assessment
before the match. Malik sustained the injury prior to the first T20 in
Auckland while walking barefoot near the ground. He scored 20, 39 and 14 in the
three matches but bowled only 2.4 overs.
visitors in the past have
been. Pakistan's bowlers
also delivered the slightly
shorter lengths that New
Zealand have used to great
success there.
The hosts are searching
for a final fillip before they
dive into the most anticipated
tour of their home summer.
Members of
Australia's ODI team have
already arrived in the country,
and the attention of the
fans and media is beginning
to turn in that direction.
Another victory at Eden
Park will mean New
Zealand have won every
home series they have
played since October 2014,
in all formats, further embellishing
the aura that has
developed around the team.
They may, however,
have to contend with the
absence of Martin Guptill
for this match. Guptill
rolled his ankle during
training on the eve of the
game, and is said to be a
50-50 chance to play.
Kerber beats Williams for
her 1st Grand Slam title
Jan 30: After
all the advice that Steffi Graf
gave her, Angelique Kerber
was able to return a favor to
the retired champion on
Saturday.
Graf’s record of 22 Grand
Slam singles titles in the Open
era is intact – for now – after
Kerber staged a stunning
upset of No. 1-ranked Serena
Williams to win her first
major at the Australian Open.
It means Williams’ tally of
majors stays at 21 and the list
of Grand Slam champions
gets an elated and exuberant
newcomer.
“This is the first big tournament
of the year, and I won
it, the first Grand Slam. It
sounds crazy, but I can say
I’m a Grand Slam champion
now,” said Kerber, who was
in a final for the first time in
33 major tournaments. She
was still wide-eyed and in disbelief
two hours after beating
Williams 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in a
tense and often riveting 2-
hour, 8-minute match.
The win will elevate
Kerber to a career-high ranking
of No. 2. She was seeded
seventh in this tournament.
It also makes her the first
German woman to win the
Australian Open since Graf in
1994 and the first German to
win a Grand Slam since
Graf’s final win before retiring
in 1999 at the French
Open. German Chancellor
Angela Merkel was quick to
send congratulations.
“With this victory you
have not only fulfilled your
own biggest dream but also,
once again 17 years after
Steffi Graf, the hopes of millions
of tennis fans of a
German winning the Grand
Slam tournament,” Merkel
said in a statement.
“It was fascinating to see
how courageously and, with
such nerves of steel, how you
prevailed in the final against
arguably the best player in the
world. I hope you will enjoy
the victory fully and then go
on to many more successes.”
Heading into theAustralian
Open, the big question was
whether anyone could beat
Williams, the defending
champion going for her seventh
win at Melbourne Park. A
few names were tossed
around, but not Kerber’s.
Kerber had been in the Top 10
for four years and her best
result at a major was the semifinals
at 2012 Wimbledon
and 2011 U.S. Open. Last
year, she lost her first-round
match in Melbourne and
came close to repeating it this
year when she saved a match
point in her first-round win
over Misaki Doi.
sports arena they should put in
their best efforts for earning
good name for the country. He
called upon the government to
provide more funding for promotion
of badminton. He said
India was providing Rs.100
million annual subsidy for
Rs.1 million due to which our
badminton players were not
getting better facilities for
training.
He said Indian badminton
team was playing 20-25 tournaments
per year while
Pakistani badminton team
played hardly 3-4 tournaments
Jamie Murray-Bruno Soares win
Australian Open men's doubles title
MELBOURNE, Jan 30:
Britain's Jamie Murray
gained an early claim to
bragging rights over
younger brother Andy when
he combined with Brazil's
Bruno Soares to win the
Australian Open men's doubles
title early on Sunday.
Murray and Soares beat
Canada's Daniel Nestor and
Czech Radek Stepanek 2-6,
6-4, 7-5 in the final that followed
Angelique Kerber
beating Serena Williams for
the women's' title.
Andy Murray, who
turned up for the trophy
presentation, will meet fivetime
champion Novak
Djokovic in the men's singles
final later on Sunday.
"Andy you should be in
bed. I don't know why
you're here taking photos
but we'll be there supporting
you," a tearful Murray
said in a courtside interview.
It was the first grand
slam title for the Briton and
his Brazilian partner, in
their first major tournament
together.
The Murrays are also the
first brothers to make the
men's singles and doubles
finals at the same grand
slam in the Open era.
Murray actually held a
championship point while
serving at 5-4 in the deciding
set but blew the opportunity,
though the Canadian
and Czech pairing were
unable to consolidate.
Soares then gave them a
40-0 advantage in the 12th
game and held on to clinch
the title two points later.
"We had them on the
ropes for a bit in the second
set but they came through
and that's why they're grand
slam champions," Nestor
said.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf
(PTI) Chairman Imran Khan
on Saturday announced that
he and Khyber
Pakhtunkhawa (KP) Chief
Minister Pervez Khattak
should be considered as
failed if they fail to bring
change within next six
months.
He added that the KP
government was investing in
people instead of concrete
and steel.
Addressing Advances in
Cancer and Hematology
Conference’s opening ceremony
at Khyber Medical
University; Imran Khan said
that 23% of the cases in
Shaukat Khanum Cancer
Hospital Lahore come from
KP. He said that no country
can progress without bringing
a change in the fields of
education and health. “No
matter how many billions a
country spends on Metro
buses, progress is when it
invests in education and
health”, Imran said. He
promised improvement in
KP’s government hospitals
within next six months.
Imran Khan added that
the reason behind failure to
bring change in government
hospitals despite all the
facilities is that the management
system is inefficient.
“The main objective behind
forming Board of Governors
is to rid the government hospitals
from bureaucracy”, he
added.
The ceremony was also
attended by Pervez Khattak
and PTI leader Jahangir
Tareen.
Speaking at an award ceremony
at CM House
Peshawar later on, Imran
Khan said that a new hope
has dawned upon the artists
who had been affected by
cultural activities will be
restored in KP soon. Imran
QWP chief said this during
Army Public School was a
to take up solid measures
against terrorists and
their facilitators and financiers.
He added that closing of
educational institutions was
not the solution to the issue.
“It is the time to end this
menace and for this purpose
federal government should
revise its policy against NAP
and take bold steps to implement
it in its true sense,”
QWP chief asked.
Stressing on cordial relations
between Afghanistan
and Pakistan, Aftab Sherpao
said terrorism was a common
issue being faced by both the
states, adding that both two
should strive hard to keep
continue peace process in
order to bring peace and
prosperity to the region.
“If there is persisting violence
then there will be no
trade and investment in the
entire region and the incumbents
on both sides of the
border should improve bilateral
relations and devise
strategy to further strengthen
people-to-people contacts so
as to end mistrust and misperception
between them,”
he expressed.
Talking on China-
Pakistan Economic Corridor
“Now the ball is in PML-N’s
court whether it keeps its
promises or not, he added.
every passing day and social
the power of social media”,
he said.
Speaking on this occasion,
told African leaders on
Saturday they should not use
legal loopholes or undemocratic
constitutional changes to
"cling to power", and that they
should respect term limits.
Ban was addressing a twoday
after triggering unrest in
places such as Burundi and
Congo Republic.
"Leaders should never use
undemocratic constitutional
changes and legal loopholes
to cling to power. We have all
gathered presidents, including
Zimbabwe's veteran leader
Robert Mugabe.
It echoed remarks made by
U.S. President Barack Obama
in the same AU hall on a trip
to Ethiopia in July.
Mugabe, who turns 91 in
February and the only leader
Zimbabweans have known
since 1980, made one of his
regular swipes at Western
powers who he accuses of still
harboring colonial ambitions
and of monopolizing power at
the United Nations.
"Do we allow that group to
continue ... to harass us even
in our independent countries,"
Mugabe asked after Ban had
spoken.
One of the top items on
this summit's agenda is the
crisis in Burundi, where violence
erupted after President
Pierre Nkurunziza announced
his bid for a third term that
opponents said was illegal. He
won a disputed election in
July. Supporters cite a court
ruling that said he could run.
In neighboring Rwanda, a
constitutional change
approved in a referendum
means President Paul
Kagame, who has been in
office since 2000 and effectively
in power far longer,
can now run again in 2017
and could stay on until 2034
graduated from Cuba.
He said 354 students have
passed the test conducted by
Pakistan Medical and Dental
Council and are serving the
country in public as well as
private sector.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed
emphasized that education
should be used as a diplomatic
tool and appreciated
the support of Cuban government
in building academic
relationship with Pakistan.
He lauded Cuba for its
generous support to Pakistan
in the devastating earthquake
of 2005, which included provision
of 1000 scholarships
to Pakistani medical students.
He also reaffirmed
that Pakistan will soon offer
100 scholarships for Cuban
engineering students.
Western powers criticized
Kagame for not stepping
aside, saying he should set an
example.
Uganda's Western allies
have said President Yoweri
Museveni, bidding for another
term in a February vote after
three decades in office, should
consider quitting although the
Ugandan constitution does
not set any term limits.
"Leaders must protect their
people, not themselves," Ban
said. "I commend those leaders
who committed to stepping
aside and respect constitutional
term limits."
