「ハヌパタ 村 へようこそ」
村 の 入 り 口 に 掲 げられているタルチョ 旗 に 朝 日 があたり 色 とりどりの 輝 きを 放 っていた。

At the entrance to the village a string of prayer flags spans across the road and shines brightly
in the morning sun.

「 未 知 の 世 界 へ、 唯 一 の 道 」
カシミール 州 の 中 にあるラダックは 近 年 重 要 な 軍 事 基 地 ともなっている。
〜 Only one single road to the unknown world beyond 〜
Situated in the middle of Kashmir province, Ladakh has recently also gained importance as a
military foothold.

「 日 干 し 煉 瓦 を 作 るおっちゃん」
家 を 作 るための 日 干 し 煉 瓦 を 作 ることが 夏 の 間 の 大 きな 仕 事 であるのだ。
〜 A man with his sun-dried bricks 〜
One of the important tasks to do in summer is preparing the sun-dried bricks
for building houses.

「ハヌパタ 村 のホームステイ 初 日 」
右 からお 父 さん、おばあちゃん、 子 どものアンモ、アンモのお 母 さん。 屋 根 の 上 で 午 後 のひとと
きを 過 ごすハヌパタ 村 の 人 々。たわいもない 会 話 が 時 の 流 れに 逆 らう 事 なくかわされている。そ
んな 時 間 の 流 れ 方 が 好 きだった。
〜 The first day of my homestay in Hanaputa village 〜
From left there is the father, grandmother, the girl Anmo and Anmo's mother.
The people of Hanaputa like to spend a quiet afternoon on the roof of the house. While
chatting about nothing in particular, the flow of time seems to slow down magically.
I really liked this way of spending the time.

「ハヌパタ 村 の 小 学 校 」
一 日 が 太 陽 の 光 で 始 まるように 学 校 は 毎 朝 15 分 くらいのお 祈 りではじまる。 次 々に 生 徒 が 集 ま
り、 子 どもたちの 声 が 部 屋 に 響 き 渡 る。
〜 The elementary school at Hanaputa village 〜
Just like every day starts with the light of the sun, at the school every morning starts with a
period of prayer of about 15 minutes. As the pupils assemble, the voices fill the room.

「 微 笑 む 老 婆 」
朝 も 昼 も 夜 も 肌 身 離 さず、マニ 車 (お 祈 り
に 使 う 道 具 )を 握 っていて、ラダック 語 を
たくさん 教 えてくれた 優 しい 信 心 深 いおば
あちゃん。
〜 The smile of an old lady 〜
Whether in the morning, at midday or in
the evening, like her skin not parting from
the body, she will not let go of her rosary.
With her gentle kindness she taught me
many words of the Ladakhi language.
「 子 どもの 愛 おしさは 世 界 共 通 」
どこの 国 でも 子 どもは 可 愛 い。ホームシッ
クなんて 飛 んで 行 くような 癒 しの 笑 顔 だっ
た。
〜 The cuteness of children seems to be
the same all over the world 〜
In every country, children are soo cute.
My homesickness flies away when I am
looking at her soothing smile.

「 毎 朝 作 るチャパティ」
ラダックでは 小 さな 子 どもでもチャパティを 上 手 に 作 る。チャパティとはナンのようなもので、
ラダックでは 一 番 よく 食 べられているものかもしれない。
〜 Every mornings fresh-made chapati 〜
In Ladakh, even small children are very good at making chapati. Chapati is a flat bread, similar
to the Indian nan and is one of the most common dishes.

「 水 の 恵 み」
当 たり 前 だが 人 間 は 水 なしでは 生 きていけない。 水 道 も 電 気 も 電 波 もないラダックの 村 にいる
と 感 じる 事 がいくつもある。 特 に 僕 が 感 じたことそれは 水 に 対 する 感 謝 の 気 持 ちだった。 僕 らは
水 に 生 かされているのだ。
〜 The grace of water 〜
It goes without saying that man could not survive without water. In the villages of Ladakh,
where there is no running water or electricity, I noticed this very strongly. And even more the
feeling of gratitude towards the water, which people seem to feel all the time. I also receive my
life through water.

「 結 婚 式 」
女 性 は 伝 統 的 に 受 け 継 がれているこの 美 しい 服 を 身 にまとい 結 婚 式 に 出 る。
〜 Wedding ceremony 〜
Women dress up in the beautiful dresses that have been handed down from their ancestors for
the wedding ceremony.

From Hanupata to Photoksar
「 標 高 5000m シンゲラー 峠 より」
永 遠 に 広 がる 青 い 空 。その「 青 」は 写 真 で 表 す 事 も 言 葉 で 表 す 事 も 出 来 ない。ただ 感 じる 事 しか 出
来 ない「 青 」だった。
〜 View from a 5000m mountain pass 〜
Blue sky that seems to spread out forever, in all directions. This "blue" can not be captured in a
photograph, can not be captured in words, it can only be felt, this "blue".

「 月 世 界 」
砂 と 岩 が 果 てしなく 続 く 砂 漠 のようなところがラダックであり、 人 々はそこを 月 世 界 と 呼 ぶ。ト
レッキングをしていると 幾 度 も 荷 物 を 運 ぶロバや 馬 を 見 かける。ロバ 使 いがどことなくかっこ 良
く 見 えるのは 僕 がこの 地 域 にいる 長 さを 物 語 っていたのかもしれない。
〜 Moon landscape 〜
Sand and rocks in all directions, a desert-like landscape like this can be seen all over Ladakh, the
people there call it "moon landscape". While trecking, I encountered many caravans of donkeys
or ponies.

フォトクサル 村
Village Photoksar
「 崖 上 村 」
足 を 踏 み 入 れていいかも 分 からない 切 り 立 った 岩 の 上 に 人 の 生 きる 場 所 が 存 在 する。 外 の 世 界 と
遮 断 され 独 自 の 文 化 が 根 強 く 残 っているフォトクサル 村 である。
〜 The village on top of the cliff 〜
On a cliff where you do not now where to put your feet, there is still a place for people to live.
Completely separated from the outside world, Photoksar village preserves its own very special
culture.

「 日 干 し 煉 瓦 の 家 」
何 代 にも 渡 って 受 け 継 がれてきた 日 干 し 煉 瓦 の 家 。どの 家 にも 屋 根 には 聖 なる 祈 りの 旗 、タルチョ
がはためいている。
〜 The house of sun-dried bricks 〜
This house of sun-dried bricks has already been used by many generations. On all roofs the
prayer flags provide protection and purification of the space.

「 自 然 と 共 にある 生 き 方 」
雄 大 な 自 然 がそこにはある。 遥 かなる 高 みで 膨 大 な 数 の 家 畜 と 暮 らす、 何 にも 縛 られる 事 なく 生
きる、 真 に 自 由 な 人 々。そして 彼 らは 誰 よりもよくラダックの 自 然 の 美 しさ、 恐 ろしさを 知 って
いる。
〜 Living in accordance with nature 〜
The magnificience of nature can be felt here. In such a high altitude living together with so
many live stock, without any bindings or obligations, people are free in the nature. And more
than anybody, they know and revere the beauty of Ladakhs nature.

「 山 の 生 活 」
近 年 、 観 光 業 の 発 展 で 山 羊 の 数 は 減 りつつあるが、 今 日 のラダックの 生 活 の 中 心 にあるのは 変 わ
らず 放 牧 である。
〜 Living in the mountains 〜
Due to the development of tourism, the reliance on sheep raising is dwindling, but they still
form a base of the live stock in the villages.
「フォトクサルで 出 会 った 親 子 」
ブリキに 入 った 絞 り 立 てのヤギ 乳 を 持 ち、 微 笑 む
フォトクサルの 親 子 。フォトクサルの 魅 力 は 朗 ら
かな 村 人 たちの 笑 顔 そのものだ。
〜 Mother and child I met in Photoksar 〜
In a tincan they carry home freshly melked
goat milk, the smiling mother and her child in
Photoksar. One of the appealing things about
Photoksar was the smiling that seems to radiate
from everybody here.

「お 行 儀 よく 並 ぶ 幼 稚 園 児 」
幼 稚 園 のころからウルドゥー 語 とラダック 語 、 英 語 を 学 んでいる。なんとも 可 愛 らしい 並 び 方 だった。
〜 Well-manneredly lining up pre-school children 〜
From early age, the children learn Ladakhi, Urdu and English. How cutely they are lining up here!

「 勉 強 も 笑 顔 いっぱいで!」
フォトクサルという 村 に 滞 在 していた 時 、 何 度 か 学 校 の 子 供 たちと 過 ごす 時 間 を 作 った。 彼 ら、
彼 女 らはいつでもどこでも 弾 けるような 笑 顔 で 私 を 迎 え 入 れてくれた。
〜 Even study is done with all smiles! 〜
While I was staying in Photoksar village, on several occasions I had the opportunity to visit the
children at their school. The boys and girls always bursted open in a big smile to greet me.

「フォトクサル 村 のお 祭 り」
村 の 上 の 方 にある 広 場 に 村 中 の 人 が 集 まり、 中 心 にある 棒 を 囲 んで 踊 り 続 ける。 一 列 に 並 び 民 族
楽 器 のダマンとスルナに 合 わせて 踊 る。 振 り 付 けや 足 運 びはシンプルで 初 めての 僕 もすぐに 真 似
できるようになった。
〜 A festival in Photoksar 〜
At the opening above the village everybody assembled around a pole. The villagers formed a
line and to the sound of the folk musical instruments Daman and Zurna started dancing. The
rythms and movements are simple, so even a first-timer like me could join in immediately.

「 撮 って♪」
カメラを 持 ち 歩 いていると、 撮 ってほ
しそうに 人 がたくさん 寄 ってくる。そ
してカメラを 覗 き 込 み、モニターで 写
真 を 確 認 すると 満 足 そうに 帰 っていく
のだ。
「 美 しい 踊 り」
生 活 の 一 部 になっているチベット 仏 教 だが、 村 人 たちは 純 粋 にお 祭 を 楽 しんでいる 様 子 だった。
〜 Beautiful dancing 〜
Tibetan Buddhism, which is deeply engrained in the everyday life at the village, with its
festivals provides welcome opportunities to single-mindedly enjoy life.

While walking around with my
camera, sometimes people would
come and ask to be photographed.
When they looked at the monitor of
the camera, they made a very satisfied
face and walked away.

チベット 風 のうどんのようなもので 冬 場 には 毎 日 のように 食 べられている。

「みんなが 大 好 きなモモ」
モモは 子 どもも 大 人 も 大 好 きなチベットの 代 表 的 な 料 理 である。 村 ではよくベジモモが 作 られる
が、 町 に 行 くとマトンのお 肉 も 入 っていることがある。
〜 Everyones favorite dish "momo" 〜
Children and adults alike love momo, which is one of Ladakhs favourite dishes. In the villages it
is often vegetarian, but in the city people like to put meat in as well.

「ホームステイ」
長 らくお 世 話 になったフォトクサルのホストファミリー。 冗 談 が 得 意 なお 母 さんの 周 りはいつも
笑 顔 で 溢 れていた。 明 るい 元 気 な 赤 ちゃんをあやすことが 僕 の 役 割 だった。
〜 Homestay 〜
The host family in Photoksar where I was staying for many days. The mother likes to joke and
always spreads her smile to the surrounding people. Caring for the happy and healthy child
was my task.

「 言 語 なんて 必 要 ない」
言 葉 は 全 くといっていいほど 通 じないが 不 思 議 ととても 仲 良 くなれた。
〜 No language needed at all 〜
Although we did not have any language in common, in a strange way we understood each other
perfectly.

From Photoksar to Linshit
歩 いた 先 にあるもの
僕 は 歩 く
遠 くに 見 える 山 を 目 指 して 歩 く
何 時 たどりつくかも 分 からぬところへ 向 かって 歩 く
聞 こえてくるのは 無 邪 気 な 風 の 音
絶 え 間 なく 聞 こえる 自 らの 足 音
息 の 音 で 時 の 経 過 を 認 識 することしか 出 来 ない
静 か 過 ぎると 自 分 自 身 の 存 在 を 確 認 出 来 なくなる
ことがある
その 代 わりにどこまでも 続 きそうな 道 と
終 わりがなさそうな 青 い 空 を 見 ていると
地 球 の 存 在 の 大 きさを 感 じることができる

リンシェ 村
Villadge Linshit
「 日 の 出 と 日 の 入 り」
このリンシェ 村 は 僕 が 訪 れた 地 域 では 最 奥 に 位 置 する 場 所 だ。 車 もここまでは 通 っていない、こ
こに 来 るためには 自 分 の 足 を 頼 るしかないのだ。 僕 がこの 村 を 一 番 好 きになった 理 由 もその 苦 労
から 見 られた 景 色 のためだろう。
〜 The sunrise and the sunset 〜
This is in Lingshed village, which is the most remote of the villages I visited. It can not be
reached by car, so I had to walk on my own feet for two days to come here. The reason I liked
this most of all places might be the wonderful scenery that I saw after this hardship.

「リンシェ 村 のお 母 さん」
僕 が 訪 れた 中 では 最 奥 にあるリンシェという 村 。どれだけ 歩 いただろうか。 一 日 中 歩 き 続 けた
先 に 待 っていたものは 疲 れをも 吹 き 飛 ばして くれるような 村 人 の 笑 顔 だった。
〜 A mother in Lingshed village 〜
Among the places I visited, this is the most remote village. I can't count how long I walked up to
this place. After I had been walking for the whole day, the smile that was waiting for me here
made all the exhaustion fly away in a single moment.

チャパティを 焼 いているのか 屋 根 から 煙 が 出 ている。 遠 くの 丘 にはゴンパ( 寺 院 )がありその 下
にラマさんたちの 家 がある。
〜 The house next to the woods 〜
Chapati (flatbread) is being prepared, thus smoke is coming out of the roof. In the distance, a
Gompa (Buddhist temple) can be seen, below that is the house of the Rama family

「 高 地 に 生 きる 花 」
年 間 降 水 量 80mm でもこんなに 綺 麗 に 力 強 く 咲 いている 花 に 勇 気 をもらった。
〜 High mountain flowers 〜
There is only about 80mm of annual rainfall here, but the beauty of the flowers still manage to
give me inspiraration and courage.

「 曼 荼 羅 修 行 」
黙 々と 曼 荼 羅 を 書 く 練 習 をしている 赤 い 服 を 身 にまとった 少 年 僧 たち。 彼 らは 小 さい 頃 から 家 族
と 離 れ、ゴンパ( 寺 院 )で 生 活 をしている。
ただ 見 ているだけで 彼 らの 信 心 深 さを 感 じる。
〜 Mandala practice 〜
The young monks with their red robes practice mandala drawing in complete silence. They left
home at a very early age and grow up in the Gompa (Buddhist monastery). Just by watching
them, I get a glimpse of the depth of their spiritual sincerity.

Village Yuluchung
「 大 地 」
広 大 な 大 地 には 動 物 を 生 かす 源 がある。
なににも 邪 魔 されず、 数 ヶ 月 間 はなくなることのない 草 を 食 べ 続 ける。ロバにとってこれ 以 上 の
幸 せな 事 はないだろう。
〜 Mother earth 〜
On top was a huge grassland that supports life of animals.
Without any hindrance, this grass will last for several months, even when eaten continuously.
The donkey probably can't think of a better place to be.

散 歩 している 時 に 会 ったユルチュン 村 のステイ 先 の 少 年 がにっこり 笑 ってくれた。

While I was walking around Yurchen village, this boy from my homestay family was smiling at
me.

飛 行 機 からラダックを 見 ると、 川 の 周 りだけが 緑 になっている 事 がよく 分 かる。

When looking at Ladakh from the plane, it is easy to see that all the green is along the river.

「ここはかつて 王 国 だった」
ラダックの 交 通 の 要 所 であり、 商 業 と 文 化 の 中 心 地 、レー。 大 勢 の 人 でにぎわうメインバザール
の 喧 噪 から 逃 れ、ふと 目 を 上 げると 岩 山 にそびえる 荘 厳 な 王 宮 の 跡 が。どことなく 王 の 栄 華 の 残
り 香 が 漂 う。
〜 This used to be a kingdom 〜
The center of traffic, commerce and culture, in Ladakh, the city of Leh. The main bazar is
bustling with people, but looking up I suddenly saw the ruins of an old palace on the top of a
rocky mountain. Somehow the majesty of the kingdom still seems to be filling the air.

「タルチョがはためくレーの 寺 院 、ナムギャル・ツェモ・ゴンパ」
タルチョはチベット 圏 の 峠 やチョルテン、 家 の 屋 根 などにかざられている。 経 文 が 印 刷 された、
魔 除 けと 祈 りの 祈 祷 旗 だ。 5 色 の 旗 はそれぞれ 五 元 素 ( 地 水 火 風 空 )を 意 味 する。
〜 Prayer flags flap in the wind around Namgyal Tsemo Monastery in Leh 〜
In the Tibetan cultural sphere, prayer flags fly in the wind on mountain tops, and from the roofs
of Chorten pagodas or houses. With sacred texts printed on it, they keep away evil and purify
the area. The five colors represent the five elements earth, water, fire, wind and air.

The capital of India
「デリーの 街 の 中 、 信 号 が 機 能 していない 横 断 歩 道 」
ラダックから 飛 行 機 で 一 時 間 。そこにはラダックとは 全 く 違 う 世 界 がある。インドの 中 でラ
ダックは 小 さい。ラダックの 方 が 珍 しい 文 化 だとは 認 識 しながらもなかなか 人 の 多 さになじめ
なかった。
〜 A crosswalk in the bustling city of Delhi -- the traffic light seems to have no function
at all 〜
From Ladakh, Delhi is about one hour by plane. However, the contrast could not be bigger: it
is a completely different world. While I got easily immersed in the unique culture of Ladakh, I
could not get used to soo many people here!

This man in Delhi makes a living by providing weighing as a service.

「オールドデリーのリキシャーたち」
そこには、 肌 の 色 も 習 慣 も 言 語 も 違 う 人 々、イスラームとヒンドゥーの 世 界 があった。ラダック
の 自 然 の 中 で 感 じた 雄 大 さはなく 男 が 汗 を 流 しリキシャーをこいでいる 姿 が 印 象 に 残 っている。
〜 Riksha drivers in Old Delhi 〜
Here, in a multitute of skin colors, habits and languages, is the world of Muslims and Hindus.
Without the greatness of the nature of Ladakh, a man has to earn his living with hard labour.
The sweat of the riksha coolies was especially impressing.
