Dr Mrs Vasudha Kamat appointed as new Vice
Chancellor of SNDT Women’s University
The Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Universities
in the State K. Sankaranarayanan today appointed Dr Mrs
Vasudha Kamat, Joint Director, Central Institute of Educational
Technology (CIET), National Council of Educational Research and
Training (NCERT), New Delhi as the new Vice Chancellor of the
S N D T Women’s University, Mumbai.
Dr Kamat succeds Dr Smt Chandra Krishnamurthi whose
term ended on 1 March.
Dr Kamat has been appointed as Vice Chancellor for a term 5
years with effect from the date she assumes the charge of office of
the Vice Chancellor.
Dr Kamat (b. 26 June 1952) obtained her Masters in
Sociology from the SNDT Women’s University in 1976 and
secured her Ph.D. in Education in the year 1981. She started as a
lecturer in Gokhale Education Society’s College of Education,
Sangamner and later joined the SNDT Women’s University in the
year 1983 on the same post.
Dr Vasudha Kamat served as Professor and Head of the
Department of Educational Technology at the SNDT Women’s
University for ten years between 1997 and 2007. Thereafter she

was appointed as Joint Director at the Central Institute of
Educational Technology (CIET) New Delhi.
Dr Mrs Vasudha Kamat has an experience of 31 years in
teaching, research and administration.
Dr Kamat has carried out research on the problems faced by
adolescents living in metropolitican cities and also on Solid Waste
Management.
The Governor had appointed a Search Committee headed by
Dr Hari Gautam, former Chairman UGC to given him a panel of
names for appointment of Vice Chancellor of the SNDT Women’s
university.
