In 2002, Sunil Bharti Mittal got
into an unusual bet of US$ 50
with Craig Barret, Intel Chairman
– “When would mobile take
over fixed line numbers in
India.” Barret predicted 2007
to be the year when transition
would happen, a year ahead of
Mr Mittal’s prediction of 2008.
Sunil Mittal lost the bet as the
landmark year turned out to be
2006 (well before even Barret’s
prediction!). But this was one bet,
Mr Mittal admits, he loved
to lose.
