In December 1999, <strong>Bharti</strong> Airtel<br />
acquired majority stake in JT Mobiles<br />
which was the cellular service<br />
provider in the southern states of<br />
Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The<br />

In August 2000, <strong>Bharti</strong> Airtel and<br />
Singapore Telecommunications<br />
(Singtel) formed a strategic<br />
partnership as the latter invested<br />
US$ 400 million in Airtel. It was then<br />
the single-largest investment by any<br />
international investor in the Indian<br />
