Michael Sandel is an American political philosopher and a professor at
Harvard University. He is best known for the Harvard course ‘Justice’, now
available online, and for his book Liberalism and the Limits of Justice,
which provides a critique of John Rawls’ A Theory of Justice. In 2010, China
Newsweek named him ‘the most influential foreign figure of the year’. This
year, BBC Radio 4 broadcast a three-part series, ‘The Public Philosopher’,
recorded at the London School of Economics and Political Science, in which
Sandel steered debates on some important topical issues, raising questions
such as whether a banker should be paid more than a nurse.
