Austin is known as the Live Music
Capital of the World ® but that’s just
the beginning. Home to unique shopping,
world-class museums, one-ofa-kind
dining and beautiful outdoor spaces, Texas’
capital city has a soundtrack all its own.
Shopping
The 2ND Street shopping district is home to local
and national brands, ranging from beauty to body to
home. South Congress Avenue features a variety of
unique shops, boutiques, antiques, and galleries.
In a town square atmosphere, The Domain features
more than 100 retailers, including Tiffany and Co. and
Louis Vuitton. Nearby outlet shopping at San Marcos
Premium Outlets and Round Rock Premium Outlets
is a terrific way to score discounts on designer brands.
Celebrate everything Austin with some stylish gear.
The Austin Visitor Center offers unique local items by
Texas and Austin artists, as well as Austin Live Music
Capital of the World ® branded merchandise.
Eat & Drink
Austin dining is unforgettable thanks to Tex-Mex favorites
like breakfast tacos from Juan in a Million, and
Tex-Mex treats paired with pitchers of margaritas at
Polvos. But a visit to Austin isn’t complete without a
plate of legendary Texas barbeque. Located in a historic
speakeasy, the County Line on the Hill offers
incredible views of the beautiful Hill Country and La
Barbecue offers slow cooked, smoked meats (while
they last) and live music on weekends.
From gourmet donuts at Gourdough’s to savory
Asian fusion from East Side King, Austin food trucks
are a local favorite, and there’s always a new, delicious
budget-friendly option to discover. Barton Springs
Picnic trailer park features eight of the best food vendors
in Austin, all under a covered pavilion.
With more than 30 wineries within a short drive, Austin
and the Hill Country is a perfect spot to sip awardwinning
wines. Stop in Fredericksburg and taste locally
produced wines at more than a dozen wineries.
In Driftwood, pair mouthwatering Salt Lick barbecue
with smooth wine varieties at Salt Lick Cellars, a local
winery just outside the city limits.
Closer to home you’ll find an array of wine bars
throughout Austin. Sample cheese plates paired with
international wine selections in the outdoor lounge
at House Wine, or experience the eclectic scene
at Apothecary Cafe & Wine Bar, where unique tasting
options, decadent chocolate and fresh cheeses
make for a wine-lover’s paradise.
Live Music
Live music, and music in many other forms, is everywhere
in Austin. With more than 250 live music venues
in town, music can be experienced everywhere, from
the stage at the airport to the patio of a well-known
local grocery store.
Home to some of the most popular festivals in
the country like Austin City Limits and South by
Southwest, people are also starting to talk about
lesser-known gems like Food + Wine Festival in April,
Levitation Music Fest in May, and Fun, Fun, Fun Fest
in November. No matter which festival you choose,
you’re guaranteed to leave an Austin music fan.
