Match Reports
By Tony Rickson
In front of by far the biggest crowd they’ve
played in front of this season, Sittingbourne
had to accept a third successive league defeat,
and they haven’t scored in any of those matches
either.
For all their skills and accurate passing
Worthing didn’t create that much in the first
half, Sittingbourne joining in by stroking the ball
around on the accurate surface whenever they
actually got hold of it.
Sittingbourne chucked everything at Worthing
in the second half, though in so doing it also
cost them the game as they were twice cuaght
on the break to score their second and third
goals and give the final score a more flattering
look.
Sittingbourne: Molloy, Naessens, Lee
(Brunt, 51 min), Steventon, Crimmen, Richardson,
Wright (Ita, 57 min), Algar (Bankole, 57
min), Irvine, Hughes, Akhazzan.
And now they know – though to be honest, it
didn’t feel that good as surely this was a game
they should have won.Sittingbourne led twice
but for the third time in a week conceded two
secondhalf goals and this time they ended up
with just a share of the points.
They created more chances than probably in
any game this season but their finishing wasn’t
clinical enough, and when they were on target
towards the end Walton’s keeper pulled off a
couple of spectacular saves.
Walton are just a place behind Sittingbourne in
the league and after a poor run of results were
clearly delighted to at least take a point home
as they fight their own battle against being
drawn into the relegation fight.
Sittingbourne: Molloy, Naessens, Richardson,
Steventon, Crimmen, Wisson, Akhazzan,
Bankole, Cornwell (Wells 84 mins), Hughes
(Irvine 72 mins), Ita (Wright 64 mins)
What an important win for Sittingbourne, their
first of this year and completing an excellent
double over Whyteleafe this season. But this
was Sittingbourne and they couldn’t resist doing
it the hard way, going from cruising at 3-0
to hanging on grimly at 3-2.
Hang on they did, and in the end they got their
reward for some decent attacking football and
some nicely-taken goals when they were in the
ascendancy.
Congratulations to Hicham Akhazzan who
made his 400th appearance for the Brickies
and celebrated by scoring.
Sittingbourne 2 Walton & Hersham 2,
6th February 2016, att 105
A two goal victory for the Brickies with the two
goals coming from the twin threat of Hicham
Akhazzan and Steven Ita, Ita scoring the first
from Akhazzan's cross and the second a reversal
of this when Akhazzan struck the ball into
the net from Ita's cross to make him the Brickies
leading scorer so far this season.
The game swung in Sittingbourne's favour on
38 minutes when Michael Salako raced away
and fell over in the Brickies area, the shouts of
penalty fell on deaf ears and no doubt still upset
at the decision Salako pushed Wright over
and the referee had no option but to show the
red card.
The swans battled well and Adam Molloy did
brilliantly to tip a free kick on the post, but
Akhazzan's goal on 78 minutes meant there
was no way back for the home side.
Sittingbourne: Molloy, Wright, Carlse,
Whibley, Crimmen, Steventon, Akhazzan,
Bankole, Irvine (Cornwell 56 mins), Wells
(Hughes 66 mins), Ita (Algar 81 mins), subs
not used Algar, Davis
All season, Sittingbourne had yet to find out
what it felt like to draw a home league game.
