The Harvest will be celebrated at all our Masses this weekend.
We give thanks for all the graces received.
Musical evening at 8pm this Sunday 14th to celebrated the
Harvest, featuring The Tribal Chamber Choir led by Mark
Keane.

Your Parish Needs You ! New Altar Servers !
We start training for New Altar Servers this Wednesday 17th. 3:30 to 4:15pm.
Application forms in the sacristy—Boys and Girls who have made their First Holy
Communion are welcome to join. They don’t have to live in Salthill—just be
willing to help with ceremonies in Salthill Parish. Serving Mass is a lovely way for
children to be involved in the parish.
A huge Thank You to Clare Hynes who is coordinating this activity for us.

SKGaa. Big Day for the Club ! The football teams have a double-header final this
Sunday, starting at 2pm when the minors meet Corofin in the County A final while at
4pm the Seniors take on Tuam Stars in Championship final. The GAA Club are hoping for
a big turnout on the day with TG4 broadcasting also from 3pm and the U12 playing
Tuam in exhibition go-games at half-time

Dear Fellow Traveller
I was thinking !!
Well the ‘Year of Faith’ has officially begun and many are wondering what
does this mean for me. We live in an age where many practicing Catholics are
somewhat reluctant to take anything coming from the head office seriously but I
think this particular topic has some good merits. For a start it marks the
anniversary of Vatican II which I believe brought about thinking and ideas that
were ahead of its time. Clearly the institutional church was not ready for the
change it witnessed in the world and perhaps lacking the courage and conviction
to embrace it. Rather than looking back in disappointment over lost opportunities
I believe that this might be the time to re-examine what ‘faith’ means to me
personally. I must thank my friend Bridie for asking me “What is faith anyway”
and I struggled to give a simple concise answer.
Having given it some seriously thought perhaps it might be answered thus;
like so many others I like to occasionally have a swim at Blackrock. Part of the
experience is watching the kids jumping into the sea from the tower. I had
climbed up the steps and decided that it was too much for an old fellow like me
and decided to leave it to the younger ones. I was scared to take the jump even
though I could see that it was safe. I had all the relevant information; I had
witnessed others doing; it so why not? I guess it was a
lack of trust. I imagined that I might get hurt, panic and
drown or something silly like that. Then last Thursday
was a lovely day for a swim with calm, clear water. I
was conscious that it was the official start day of the
‘Year of Faith’ and wondered if I could do something
special to mark the day. I decided that to jump would
require faith. Faith that the water would catch me,
faith that it would be OK, faith in my own ability, faith
in the knowing that it was possible. So now was my
chance, no going back, a LEAP OF FAITH.
I believe faith includes listening, knowing, understanding, growing, living,
trusting, believing but also needs the courage and conviction for the doing,
experiencing and living.
