Why choose Ysgol Friars?
We asked students that had moved
from other schools into the Sixth Form
why they had chosen Friars.
“I chose to come to Ysgol Friars to study
my A levels because it has a good
academic reputation and gave
me the opportunity to become
part of a large, friendly and
supportive 6th form group. Although
the idea of moving to
a new, bigger school scared
me, I made plenty of friends
within the first few days and all
the teachers made an effort to
make me feel welcome.
It was the attitude towards new
pupils that really helped me to
make an excellent group of friends
and to do well in my studies.
All in all, I believe that Ysgol Friars
offers an excellent quality of teaching,
a very supportive and welcoming
atmosphere and I think it is a great
place for anyone wishing to study A
levels.”
“I decided to move to
Friars sixth form mainly due to the
fact that I was choosing maths, biology
and chemistry at A level. Personally,
I really enjoy the statistics
side of maths, at my old school
we did not have the option to
study stats at A level. Also, when
it came to comparing the A level
results in my chosen subjects between
Friars and the other
schools in my area, there wasn’t
much of a decision to be made!
I do not regret my decision to move
one bit! Friars is a great school, but
what really makes it for me are the people
and the teachers whom I am surrounded
by each day. Everyone is so
friendly and approachable, it really did
make it so easy to settle in and begin
enjoying sixth form.”
What the students say
“I decided to study for my A levels in
Ysgol Friars because of its great reputation
for academic success. Also I
know that ex-Friars sixth from students
that had moved from my previous
school had been successful and
are now studying in excellent
universities such as Cambridge
and other Russell Group universities.
My initial impression of the
school exceeded my expectations.
The science and maths departments
are very good and I
would definitely recommend it to
those who are interested in these
subjects.
I settled in very nicely, the teachers
are kind and will help you find your
way around the school. This
was re-assuring having
come from a much smaller
school”
“I was aware of
Friars excellent academic reputation
and, after seeing the excellent
results Friars achieved in the
summer, I arranged a meeting with
Dr. Varty and was really impressed.
I am able to study further maths at
Friars and I am considering studying
maths at university.
I’ve found life at Friars very enjoyable.
The standard of teaching is excellent,
lessons are highly enjoyable
and nothing is too much for the teachers.
I have also found the extra-curricular
activities at Friars are excellent and
there is something for everyone to do.
The pupils at Friars are all very friendly
and welcoming and made it very easy
to settle in. I’m very glad I moved to
Friars and would advise anyone thinking
about it to do the same.”
