Do you have youth programs?
We know kids just want to have fun, and our youth program
is filled with sporting activities, circus school, themed events,
scavenger hunts, pizza parties and tons more. Most ships
have a teen dance club, a video arcade, video games and a
cinema. And that’s just on the ship. Plus, we’ve got plenty of
Shore Excursions that are perfect for the whole family. For all
the fun details, see pages 14-15.
Parents with participating children who are not potty trained
will be issued a beeper and will be alerted when the child
needs to be changed (range is limited to on board ship).
United States Public Health (U.S.P.H.) regulations
prohibit diapers of any kind, including those marketed as
“swimmers,” in the swimming pools or hot tubs.
Is baby sitting offered?
Private babysitting (in or out of stateroom) is not offered on
any of our ships. However, group babysitting is available for
children ages 3-12 for a nominal cost. Group babysitting is
run by trained counselors. Hours of operation vary by ship
and itinerary.
Is there a doctor on board?
A physician and nurse are on each ship to provide medical
care and services at customary charges. Commonly used
medications are kept on board and may be prescribed by
the ship’s doctor.
What else is available on board?
clothing, cosmetics
dry-cleaning services
throughout the cruise
• Chapel
• Photo Studio
What about smoking, drinking and gambling?
We want you to be comfortable on board, so smoking on
stateroom balconies and in public areas throughout our
ships is prohibited. On ships with The Waterfront, smoking
is permitted on the starboard side excluding any food
service areas. Active Casino players may smoke cigarettes
in the Casino during gaming hours. Cigarette smoking
is not permitted in any other indoor venue or location.
Also, if you smoke regular or electronic cigarettes, you
can do so in designated areas only. If you prefer pipes
or cigars, you can smoke in the Cigar Bar or designated
smoking lounge. Violations of the smoking policy may
result in cleaning charges being applied to your onboard
account. Please visit ncl.com for the complete smoking
policy. If you’re 18-20 years of age and you have the
written consent of your parent (parent must be on board),
you can purchase beer or wine for yourself only when
the ship is sailing in International waters (except on Alaska
and Hawai‘i cruises where you must be 21 years of age
to consume or purchase alcohol of any kind*). However,
passengers 18 years of age or older are permitted to
consume alcoholic beverages without written consent
from their parent when sailing on roundtrip European
voyages. If you want to gamble in our casinos, you must
have a valid ID showing you are 18 years or older. If a
Guest under the age of 18 wins in the casino and cannot
provide proof of age, he or she will not be paid the
winnings. Gaming vouchers and table game chips must
be redeemed prior to cruise end. Players are allowed to
smoke in the casino during gaming hours. There is no
casino on Pride of America.
Is there a service charge?
Effective August 1, 2015, a $13.50 USD service charge has
been automatically added, per guest per day (for guests
three years and older), to your shipboard account for the
following staterooms (Studio, Inside, Ocean View, Balcony and
Mini-Suite). For Suites and Haven cabins the service charge
will be $15.50 USD per guest per day (for guests three years
and older). These charges will be shared with those staff
members, including the restaurant staff, stateroom stewards
and other behind-the-scenes staff who have provided services
to enhance your overall cruise experience. However, certain
staff positions (e.g., beverage service, concierge, butler and
youth counselors) do not benefit from this shared service
charge because they provided service to only some guests,
not all. If you have received excellent service from any of these
staff members, we encourage you to acknowledge them with
appropriate gratuities. If you have any concerns about the
service you receive during your cruise, please let our onboard
Guest Services Desk staff know right away, so we can address
any issues in a timely manner. In the unlikely event that we
cannot resolve your issue, you can have the service charge
adjusted at your discretion. Norwegian Cruise Line reserves the
right to modify the service charge costs at its discretion.
What about gratuities?
Unlike most other ships in the cruise industry, there is no
required or recommended tipping on our ships for service
that is generally rendered to all Guests. While you should
not feel obligated to offer a gratuity, all of our staff are
encouraged to “go the extra mile,” so they are permitted
to accept cash gratuities for exceptional or outstanding
service if you care to offer them.
Also, certain staff positions (e.g., concierge, butler, youth
program staff and beverage service) provide service on
an individual basis to only some guests and do not benefit
from the overall service charge. We encourage those
Guests to acknowledge good service from these staff
members with appropriate gratuities. Additionally, there is
an 18% gratuity and spa service charge added for all spa and
salon services. An 18% gratuity and beverage service charge
added for all beverage purchases. And an 18% gratuity and
specialty service charge added to all specialty restaurant
dining and entertainment-based dining.
Where can I keep my valuables?
All staterooms and suites have safes. Please note, however,
that we are not responsible for valuables left in staterooms
or elsewhere on board.
printed on their cruise ticket. Telephone and fax service are
available at applicable ship-to-shore rates.
What are the customs allowances?
It gets a little detailed, but the general idea is this: U.S.
residents must declare all articles acquired abroad and in
their possession when they return to the U.S. This includes
items purchased in “duty-free” shops. The duty-free
exemption allowed for purchases or gifts for returning U.S.
residents varies. The standard exemption for U.S. residents
who have been abroad more than 48 hours is $800 USD,
which may include one liter of alcohol or 1.5 liters total
(two 750 ml bottles) if you are at least 21, 100 cigars and
200 cigarettes**. Residents returning to the U.S. from the
U.S. Virgin Islands may bring $1,600 USD worth of goods
duty-free. The duty-free exemption for U.S. residents
doesn’t need to include items that are mailed back to the
U.S.; those will be assessed for duty when they arrive. Non-
U.S. residents should check with their local authorities for
customs allowance information. For more specific customs
information, be sure to attend the briefing by the Cruise
Director before your ship reaches home port. (Check the
daily onboard newsletter for time and place.) You can also
obtain information before you sail by contacting the nearest
U.S. Customs office or by visiting the U.S. Customs website
at customs.gov.
Guests sailing on our U.S.-flagged vessel Pride of America
are exempt.
NOTE: If you purchase alcohol while on board or ashore,
we will store it in a secure area and deliver it to your
stateroom at the conclusion of your cruise.
Are visitors allowed on board?
Due to security reasons, unfortunately, no.
