Notice of a canceled or rescheduled meeting will be posted

Residents wishing to observe need only show up. Residents
wishing to speak are asked to inform the Management
Company at lisa.presley@crest-management.com requesting
to be placed on the agenda. Please do this no later than 8
days before the meeting since agendas are prepared a week
in advance. If you will indicate the nature of your business
beforehand, it will give the Management Company and your
Board a chance to prepare for questions that might come up.
Please be advised, it is your Board’s practice to limit initial
comments from residents to 5 minutes, so plan accordingly.
FT. BEND COUNTY - LEASH LAW
Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all
our residents. While you may know your pet is friendly, an
animal running at someone who is walking by is very scary
for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and
become frightened, which could result in the child getting
hurt trying to avoid the animal. Although most dog bites
occur on the property where the dog lives, unrestrained or
free-roaming dogs do pose a threat to the public. In addition,
unrestrained animals are at increased risk of being bitten by
rabies-infected wildlife.

GARDENING TIPS FOR APRIL
Mulch - If possible, buy Bagged Mulch. Bagging helps eliminate
a great many pests that die from various causes while
in the bag. When you buy ‘loose’ mulch that is trucked to
your home, you are also buying ants, roaches, termites, etc…
Spend a little more on bagged material and save lots of future
pest problems. Keep your mulch at least 4” - 6” below the
top of your homes exposed foundation edge/side. This will
aid in minimizing pests in your home and allow for quick and
accurate termite inspections.
Shrubs, Flowers and groundcovers - Trim all shrubs/plants
at least 12” - 18” back from your home. Do your best to create
a plant free zone that is 18” - 24” wide around your home.
The exception is your lawn - it can grow up next to the slab
as long as you keep it 4” - 6” below the top of the slab. The
most conducive to termite infestation are groundcover plantings,
growing high against your homes exterior or (especially)
ivy that grows on your walls.

IN 1 ST TOMMY TUNES AWARDS COMPETITION
Tompkins High School is the youngest Katy ISD High School
and we are thrilled that our Fine Arts Department (Theatre,
Choir, Orchestra & Band) has been selected to participate in
their first Tommy Tunes Awards competition for this musical!
The Tommy Tunes Awards were created by Houston’s Theatre
Under the Stars (TUTS) to recognize and reward excellence
in the production of musical theatre by high school students
and their teachers. Forty-five schools are selected each year
to participate in this prestigious competition. There are 15
separate awards given including the Best Leading and Best
Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Stage Crew and Technical
Execution, Best Scenic Design and Best Costume Design just to
name a few. The Tony Awards-style ceremony will be held on
April 19, 2016 at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.

Contest and Awards, sponsored by the Houston Area Teachers

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ART CONTEST!
Don’t mess with Texas® and Keep Texas Beautiful invite you to
set aside time for their Elementary School Art Contest. Did you
know that Texans ages 16 to 34 are the most likely to litter?
We need to do all we can to motivate young Texans to keep
our environment free of trash. This contest is a great way to
share the Don’t mess with Texas and Keep Texas Beautiful litter
prevention messages with your elementary school students so
that they learn good habits from an early age.
Get creative! Inspired by their creativity and desire to protect our
environment, elementary school students from across Texas can
submit their best litter prevention design to be considered for
the 2016 Don’t mess with Texas Calendar. Entries will be judged
based on creativity/uniqueness, inclusion of a litter prevention
message and interpretation of theme, overall visual appeal,
composition and age appropriateness.
Students win prizes and have their art featured. Students who create
the top 13 winning designs will have their artwork assigned
to a month or featured on the cover of the 2016 Don’t mess with
Texas Calendar. Each will also win an iDeaUSA 8 tablet donated
by H-E-B and Central Market. All student winners and their artwork
will be showcased on the Don’t mess with Texas and Keep
Texas Beautiful websites and social media sites, at the 2016 Keep
Texas Beautiful annual conference, in media announcements and

WWII AIRCRAFT FLY-IN AND OPEN HOUSE
Saturday and Sunday, April 16 th & 17 th , 10 AM to 5 PM, those
big, old airplanes with the mighty round engines will be flying
again as the Commemorative Air Force’s Houston Wing presents
its 2016 Open House at Hangar B-5, West Houston Airport. Bring
the family and get up close and feel the prop wash and hear the
noise as radial engines power these WWII aircraft. See some of
the old planes your father, grandfather or grandmother learned
to fly for World War II. We expect to have 15 - 20 historic aircraft
on display along with several WWII military vehicles.
Admission is $10 per car. The West Houston Airport is located at
18000 Groschke Rd., 2 miles north of 1-10 and between Hwy.
6 and Barker Cypress. Warbird rides may be available. Check

NATURE PROGRAMS FOR
PRESCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN
The Titmouse Club is a nature program for children ages 2 ½
to 5 sponsored by the Houston Audubon Docent Guild. The
program is offered every Tuesday and Wednesday morning,
10 to 11 AM, from mid-September until mid-May at the Edith
L. Moore Nature Sanctuary, 440 Wilchester Boulevard. Each
week features a different nature theme and may include nature
talks, stories, hands-on activities and walks in the woods. For

or a 5-session card can be purchased for $20. The child must

DECIBELLES (A BARBERSHOP CHORUS)
Do you like to sing? Are you looking for a place to display your
talents or just to have fun with music? You should be a Decibelle!
We are a (ladies only) daytime chorus rehearsing every Friday
morning from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at the Treemont Retirement
Center, 2501 Westerland, near Westheimer and Gessner.
Some of us read music, but it is not required. We are provided
a CD to help in learning new songs. Our director, Martha Upton
and assistant director, Cay Eckland will help you find out if you
are a Tenor, Lead, Baritone or Bass.
We have been performing in the Houston area for over 38 years.
We prepare two types of shows each year; a Christmas show
with old favorites, but always a new fun tune including props,
narratives and choreography. Our regular show this year is titled
“Through the Years” We are singing songs from 1900 and every
decade after that. If your meeting, gathering or any type “get
together” would like a half hour of cheerful and melodic entertainment,
call the Decibelles. We’ll be there in costume with a
program of sheer delight.

GRACE NOTES
Singers, dancers and Instrumentalists are invited to join the
“Grace Notes” a performing group which shares music with the
elderly in retirement homes, Alzheimer’s and nursing facilities
and community events. We sing a combination of secular, patriotic
and sacred music. We also sing once a month on Sunday
morning for the congregation of St. Peter’s UMC. We rehearse
during the school year on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 AM at St.

RICHMOND ROSENBERG BOYS & GIRLS CLUB
On February 12 th , at the Richmond Rosenberg Boys & Girls Club,
eighteen scholars participated in a “What I’m Thankful For” Oratory
Competition. The group had worked for 4 weeks preparing
their speeches under the guidance of Senior Girl Scout Angela
Lytle of Katy. This event was the first step in Lytle’s Gold Award
project to implement a Speech & Debate Club at the center.
TEXAS MASTER NATURALIST
The Coastal Prairie Chapter, Texas Master Naturalists has a
membership of 85 outdoor enthusiasts. For the last 10 years,
chapter members have enjoyed learning together and sharing
their love of the outdoors with others. The chapter is part
of a state-wide Master Naturalist organization consisting of
8,140 volunteers in 44 local chapters with a total of over 2
million service hours as of 2012! Statewide TMN volunteers
have impacted or conducted projects on approximately
195,700 acres of habitat while also developing or maintaining
some 1,775 miles of interpretive trails. The Texas Master

Chinese Orchestra consists of talented young Chinese-American student

OUR STUDENT’S LIFELINES
Become an essential part of a student’s life by signing up to be a tutor for the Literacy
Council! The Literacy Council of Fort Bend County holds tutor training every
other month. After 12 hours of training, outstanding volunteers are equipped to
teach Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to adults.
The trainings prepare tutors to organize and compile lesson plans, learn about
various tutoring techniques, understand the purpose of the Literacy Council
and much more. Tutors do not need knowledge of any foreign language, nor
do they need formal teaching experience. We offer many locations for tutoring
throughout the area, including locations in Katy. Tutoring sessions are offered

RUOK PROGRAM
Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Dept. has a computer-generated program called “Are
You OK?” (RUOK). It is a computer-generated call intended for senior citizens
(over 55) and disabled persons who live alone and could benefit from a daily
check. A computer will generate a call each morning, at about the same time
and the participant chooses a time frame. A voice will ask, “Are you OK?” After
this, all they have to do is hang up the phone. If the participant goes out of town
or leaves the residence for any time, you just temporarily un-subscribe and resubscribe
when you return. If the call goes unanswered, the computer will call back
3 times at 15-minute intervals. If there is still no answer, the Sheriff will dispatch
a deputy or the local police. They will have with them a print out of information
on the person that is not responding to the calls. This program was established
by FBC Sheriff Milton Wright, Commissioner’s Court and Ken Whitt (FBC Sheriff’s
Citizens Academy Alumni Assoc.) in 1998. Many police chiefs in the county are
also participating in the program and will proceed with the welfare check for

Houston Methodist Cinco Ranch Emergency Care Center hosted
12 girl scouts from junior level troops 152015 and 152011 and
nine parent chaperones on Saturday, Jan. 30 th . The young women
had the opportunity to tour the facility and receive hands-on
lessons regarding blood pressure testing, various pediatric treatments,
stroke, radiology and other emergency services. Baystar
EMS welcomes the girls to view the back of an ambulance, with
one scout pretending to be a patient on a gurney.

23 large marshmallows 2 cups brown sugar
1/4 cup light corn syrup (such as Karo®) 1 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 (3.5 ounce) packages microwave popcorn, popped
DIRECTIONS:
Cook and stir the marshmallows, brown sugar, corn syrup, butter and vanilla extract
together in a pot over medium-low heat until the marshmallows are completely
melted, 5 to 7 minutes.

bring to a full boil. Turn off heat and add in gelatin; stir until completely dissolved.
Let cool.
When mixture is cooled fold in blueberries. Gently pour into the graham cracker
crust. Cover and refrigerate for about an hour or until ready to serve.
