Child Abuse and the Dental Professional<br />

Attendees will be made aware of the different types of abuse and how they<br />

apply to the dental arena. Learn the warning signs that may indicate abuse<br />

and neglect, and discuss common injuries associated with maltreatment. The<br />

resources to help identify injuries indicative of abuse will also be discussed. As<br />

mandated reporters, attendees will learn how and what to report, as well as<br />

why child maltreatment is a public health problem and how it affects the health<br />

of their patients.<br />

• Recognize the early warning signs of abuse and neglect and understand<br />

your role as a dental professional in reporting<br />

• Identify injuries that are indicators of abuse and neglect<br />

• Understand how the dental profession plays a role in identifying children<br />

be amazed at how easily patient photography can be learned and incorporated<br />

into your practice.<br />

Participants are asked to bring their own clinical camera with fully<br />

charged batteries, memory card, retractors and mirrors.<br />

documentation and treatment planning, but it is also an<br />

invaluable communication tool. How will you get patients to<br />

your patients, and prepare a photo gallery that will make everybody stop and<br />

take note.<br />

Current Concepts in Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy<br />

This is a course for oral health-care providers interested in an<br />

update on non-surgical periodontal therapy. This course will<br />

review the literature concerning periodontal risk factors and<br />

how to use the information to assess patients for risk versus<br />

treating disease. We will review the host response and the cascade of events<br />

that occur in periodontitis, as well as highlight some of the periodontal and<br />

systemic connections.<br />

• Review the various types of periodontal conditions, microbiology<br />

and their treatment<br />

• Determine a patient’s level of periodontal risk<br />
