It’s time to Spring Clean! Our semi-annual garage sale is scheduled for Saturday, 

April 9 th from 7 AM until 2 PM. Ads will be placed in the local newsletter, the 

Houston Chronicle and signs will be posted at each entrance of the neighborhood.

Your 2016 annual assessment is now due in full so if you have not made payment 

arrangements, please contact management as soon as possible to avoid further 

action or fees. 

STREETLIGHTS 

Please report any lights that are out, blinking or on during the day. Part of your 

annual Homeowners fee pays for your streetlights, whether they work or not. If a 

light is out in your area, please call 713-207-2222 or go to www.centerpointenergy. 

com/outage and report it. Each light pole should have a 6-digit number on it. 

When reporting the light, you will need to provide the pole number and closest 

intersection or address. We want all our lights to work… a well lit area is a safe 

area! 

SIGNS ON MAILBOXES, LIGHT POLES 

AND STREET SIGNS 

If you place signs in and around the neighborhood for Garage Sales, Lost Pets, 

etc., please make sure you remove them in a timely manner. Remember that 

postal boxes are the property of the USPS and it is a crime to attach anything 

to the cluster mailboxes! Please help to keep Aberdeen Green looking beautiful! 

CONSTABLE PATROL 

As a reminder, the Association has a patrol contract through Harris County 

Precinct 5 Constable. We share 40 hours of patrol per week at random time with 

Aberdeen Green HOA. Please add the following dispatch number to your cell 

phones or post in a visible place at home in case you need support in a non lifethreatening 

situation. Their non-emergency dispatch number is 281-463-6666.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS 

The Board of Directors meet on a monthly basis and residents are 

welcome to attend. The Board generally meets at the West Houston 

Church of Christ on West Road, however reschedule dates and 

locations sometimes occur due to scheduling conflicts. You can

meetings, as well as monthly financial reports, governing documents,

PET POLICY AND ETIQUETTE 

We understand your pets are very important to you and want to 

be a pet friendly community. However, we have received many 

complaints that there are pet owners not following the rules of the 

community when it comes to pet etiquette. Please, be aware and 

make a conscious effort to the adhere to the following guidelines: 

• Only two pets per household - refer to governing documents 

regarding height and weight limits. 

• Pick up pet waste and discard properly. 

• Do not allow pets to roam around the community unrestrained - it’s 

the law! This includes cats too! 

• Do not allow dogs to bark continuously disturbing neighbors.

GARDENING TIPS FOR APRIL 

Mulch - If possible, buy Bagged Mulch. Bagging helps eliminate a 

great many pests that die from various causes while in the bag. When 

you buy ‘loose’ mulch that is trucked to your home, you are also 

buying ants, roaches, termites, etc… Spend a little more on bagged 

material and save lots of future pest problems. Keep your mulch at 

least 4” - 6” below the top of your homes exposed foundation edge/ 

side. This will aid in minimizing pests in your home and allow for 

quick and accurate termite inspections.

zone that is 18” - 24” wide around your home. The exception is your 

lawn - it can grow up next to the slab as long as you keep it 4” - 6” 

below the top of the slab. The most conducive to termite infestation 

are groundcover plantings, growing high against your homes exterior 

or (especially) ivy that grows on your walls. 

Trees - Spray your trees at least twice annually. The spring spray 

eliminates overwintering pests and fungi while preparing trees to 

resist the pest onslaught of summer with residual pesticides. The 

fall spray also kills pests from the summer, prevents most fungi 

from occurring over the winter and puts your valuable asset off to a 

healthy winter’s dormancy. 

Lawn - Spring is the perfect time to do a fungicide treatment to stop 

brown patch in its tracks along with other fungi. If your lawn is thin 

and weak in some areas, here are some important fundamentals: a) 

lawn aeration b) fertilization c) weed control. 

Most important is proper watering: 

• Water once per week (unless you get a 1/2” rain or more - then do 

not water.) 

• Water heavily (1” - 2”) for total lawn coverage. 

• In severe drought, water every 5 th day. 

• Water from 5 AM to 7 AM in the morning - NOT AT NIGHT. 

• A heavy deep weekly watering makes the turf grow deeper, stronger 

and more drought resistant roots. 

• Less watering also saves you money!!

SALUTE TO OUR HEROES GALA 

On February 13, 2016, the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) 

held its 8 th Annual Salute to Our Heroes Gala at the Omni Hotel 

Houston Westside raising over $100,000 to benefit graduating 

seniors from the Cypress Fairbanks ISD. 

Cypress Woods High School AFJROTC was chosen to Present 

the Colors and the Missing Man Table and Honors Ceremony. Tina 

Clinkenbeard, CFISD Teacher, sang the National Anthem. State 

Representative Allen Fletcher gave the invocation and Senior Ryan 

Lancaster, from Cy-Fair High School, played TAPS. 

Kevin “Dauber” Lacz, former Navy SEAL sniper and combat medic 

was our guest speaker for the evening. Lacz spoke from the heart 

about his experiences as a Navy SEAL and the impact his service 

in the military had on his life. As a Certified Physician Assistant, 

Lacz uses his past experiences to facilitate his work in medicine and 

charity and actively seeks to support service members and veterans 

in his community. Lacz inspired us all with his motivational story, 

winning attitude and continued commitment to service. 

Joe Myers Ford Lincoln generously underwrote this year’s Salute 

to Our Heroes Gala and we are grateful that they have agreed to 

underwrite this event in 2017. Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center 

Hospital and North Cypress Medical Center were Major General 

Sponsors this year. Salute to Our Heroes has raised more than half 

a million dollars over the past eight years, funding several endowed 

scholarships for students graduating from the Cypress Fairbanks ISD. 

CFEF was established in 1970 as a non-profit to raise money to fund a 

scholarship for high school graduates in the area. Over the past 46 years, 

the Foundation has grown tremendously through the efforts of the Board 

of Trustees and the generosity of the Cy-Fair Community. The Foundation 

has awarded more than $6 million in scholarships to 1,300 graduating 

seniors. CFEF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, all contributions

TRACK HOUSTON REGISTRATION IS OPEN! 

Track Houston is the nation’s largest and most successful youth track 

and field organization. Our goal is to assist interested boys and girls ages 

6 to18 years old in improving their physical fitness, mental stamina and 

teamwork skills through organized track and field competition. We have

The Northwest Flyers Track Club is now registering all middle and

team is in its 29 th year and is a member of USA Track & Field. A full 

program of “track” events such as sprints, hurdles, middle distance, 

distance and relays and “field” events such as long jump, triple jump, 

high jump, pole vault, discus, shot put and javelin is offered. It is 

an excellent “off-season” program for young athletes who currently 

compete on their middle school or high school track teams. An 

orientation session for school athletes will be held during the spring.

FUN FAIR POSITIVE SOCCER 

Fun-Fair-Positive Soccer (FFPS) early sign up for the Spring 2016 

Season is underway. Sign up early to save up to $20. FFPS is for

April 9 th . Teams practice once per week normally in the evening.

GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL 

COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY 

Our Girl Scout Cookie sale for 2016 concluded on March 20 th . Hope 

you stocked up, as there will be a long wait before cookie time 

rolls around again! Many thanks to all our cookie volunteers and to 

all the troops who participated. We appreciate the support of our 

friends and neighbors. ! Money earned from the annual Cookie sale 

funds individual troop activities and supports Council programs and 

camps. Some of our troops really made their cookie booths special. 

Members of troop 113035 had a cookie booth on Valentine’s Day and 

report that they sold 200 boxes in 2 hours. These Girl Scouts really 

enjoy dressing up. They represented Vietnam at our World Thinking 

Day event and took part in our cafeteria-size Friendship Circle. 

The World Thinking Day event drew almost 200 girls (and their 

leaders). Each troop represented a different country and presented 

national costumes, music, food and crafts at their booths. They also 

had some great swaps! Stick on mustaches, crepes and chocolate 

lollipops that were shaped like the Eiffel tower were featured at the 

“France” booth. Maracas made from plastic spoons and Easter 

eggs accompanied Fiesta costumes at the Mexico booth the special 

collars and headdresses seen at the Egypt booth looked as if they 

had come from the King Tut exhibit. Beautiful costumes, bright colors 

and lots of smiling faces made traveling “around the world” as easy 

as moving around the cafeteria! Our event started off with a flag 

ceremony and recitation of the Girl Scout Promise and finished up 

with a Friendship Circle and singing “Make New Friends.” We also 

collected donations for the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund. 

Our STRIDERS event brought an afternoon of track and field events, 

with families coming out to cheer on their daughters. Girls jumped 

rope, ran in individual and relay races, threw softballs and jumped 

in standing and running events. We also had a few snacks to keep 

up our strength for all those activities. Our spring Leader/Daughter 

event in Wimberley featured “Art in Bloom” crafts and activities, as 

well as the Talent Show, Dutch oven Cook-off and all our usual fun 

activities. Horseback riding and rock climbing, kayaking, shopping 

and eating the results of the Dutch Oven Cook-Off are all part of this 

exciting weekend. 

Cadette Troop 16435 reports that they attended the “Be an 

Upstander” event at the Holocaust Museum. They earned the 

‘Science of Happiness” badge and the Interact award towards the 

“Amaze Journey.” 

April will be a busy time for our Cadette, Senior and Ambassador 

Girl Scouts, with activities such as Cadette Weekend, Scouts at SAM 

and Girl Scout Law Day. Some of these older Girl Scouts will also be 

participating with adults as delegates to the annual Council Meeting. 

Daisy Troop 113049 reports that they made “blessing bags” to be 

handed out to those in need. 

We are getting close to the end of the school Scouting year, with a 

Bridging Ceremony planned for May, as troops move on to the next 

Girl Scout level. Summer brings resident, day and twilight camps 

and the chance to learn new skills, have fun and make new friends. 

Some of our troops are also looking forward to the Girl Scout Night 

Sleepover at the Sugarland Skeeters stadium; they will be taking 

part in a parade around the stadium, enjoying the game and pitching 

their tents on the field afterwards! 

Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) 

through 18 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. 

Girls may join at any level and no previous Scouting experience is 

required. Copper Creek Meadows serves girls in the residence areas 

for the elementary schools listed below, as well as the corresponding 



middle and high schools. Home schoolers and private school 

students are always welcome. Our elementary schools are: Birkes, 

Fiest, Hairgrove, Horne, Kirk, Lee, Lieder, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, 

Tipps, Wilson, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Texas Christian School and

ERNEST (E.J.) ESCOBEDO JR., 

HAS EARNED EAGLE SCOUT 

On February 1, 2016, Ernest (E.J.) Escobedo Jr., a member of Boy 

Scout Troop 202, has earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout. E.J. 

started in the Cub Scout program in the 3 rd grade. In December of 

2010 he earned his Arrow of Light and transitioned into Boy Scout 

Troop 202. 

As a member of Troop 202, E.J. has held a variety of troop positions 

including Assistant Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and many 

years of Troop Guide. E.J. has attended every troop campout, except 

for one, since joining Troop 202. Each summer he has been able to 

attend high adventure camps including twice to Philmont, Seabase 

in Florida and a trip to Colorado. He has spent one week of his winter 

break for the last 4 years volunteering at winter camp. He is also an 

O.A. member. 

For his Eagle Project, E.J. refurbished and enhanced a memorial 

area and the local VFW Post 8905 on Hwy 290 in Cypress, Texas. 

E.J. is currently a student at Langham Creek High School in the 11th 

grade. He is also a member of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department 

and plans to attend college in the future.

For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values 

found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are 

just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they

ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship

BOY SCOUT TROOP 61 

Young men between the ages of 11-18 are encouraged to visit Boy 

Scout Troop 61 at 7:00 PM Wednesday nights at Peace Community 

Church, 5151 Addicks Satsuma Road, Houston, Texas, 77084. They 

will get a hands-on experience of what Scouting has to offer and 

have the opportunity to visit with the Scouts and their adult leaders to 

learn more about the things the troop has done during meetings and 

activities. Scouting activities include camping, fishing, archery, rifle/ 

shotgun shooting, hiking, first aid, wilderness survival, community 

service, citizenship, swimming, leadership, white-water rafting and 

much more. Troop 61 camps each month and has a group that goes 

to High Adventure Camp and to Merit Badge Camps each summer. 

Boy Scout Troop 61 meets from 7:00 to 8:00 PM every Wednesday

Boy Scout Troop 10 meets every Tuesday night during the school year 

at the West Houston Church of Christ on West Road and Queenston. Our 

meetings begin at 7 PM. We spend our time working on merit badges, 

planning for our monthly camp outs and working on rank advancements. 

The boys will be extra busy this month as they will be participating in our 

District Camporee where they compete with other Troops in the district 

in activities like tent races and archery! In addition, they will have a booth 

at the annual Scout Fair held at NRG Arena on April 16 th . They will be 

building sandwiches and providing beverages for everyone who comes 

by the booth. We hope to see you out there! The Troop has just started 

a new service project collecting empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls.

Camp Cornerstone is a week-long camp facilitated by Cornerstone 

United Methodist Preschool and is for children ages 2 through the

WWII AIRCRAFT FLY-IN AND OPEN HOUSE 

Saturday and Sunday, April 16 th & 17 th , 10 AM to 5 PM, those big, 

old airplanes with the mighty round engines will be flying again as the 

Commemorative Air Force’s Houston Wing presents its 2016 Open 

House at Hangar B-5, West Houston Airport. Bring the family and 

get up close and feel the prop wash and hear the noise as radial 

engines power these WWII aircraft. See some of the old planes your 

father, grandfather or grandmother learned to fly for World War II. We 

expect to have 15 - 20 historic aircraft on display along with several 

WWII military vehicles. 

Admission is $10 per car. The West Houston Airport is located at 

18000 Groschke Rd., 2 miles north of 1-10 and between Hwy. 6 and

YOGA FOR THE BIRDS

On Sunday, February 21 st , Cornerstone United Methodist Church 

celebrated “Scout Sunday” affirming at all three worship services 

the positive impact that scouting can have on both girls and boys. 

Cornerstone UMC is currently the charter organization for Boy Scout 

Troops #421, #1296 & #3. In addition, Cub Scout Pack #433, Girl 

Scout Troop #16374, Girl Scout Troop #16991 and Daisy Girl Scout 

Troop #110031 meet regularly at the church. 

Daniel Robinson received the “God & Church” award. The “God 

& Church” study is a part of the P.R.A.Y. (Programs of Religious 

Activities with Youth) Program Series. The “God & Church” study 

leads scouts in the 6 th through 8 th grades on a three to five month 

faith journey with three parts: meeting Jesus, worshiping God and 

witnessing and ministering for Christ. Scouts have the opportunity 

to work with their pastor as they study the church’s structures and 

objectives and participate in service projects that give them a better
