PURPOSE OF HUNTER’S PARK
COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
Hunter’s Park Community Association handles the
financial and legal affairs of the subdivision. Each
lot owner is required to pay an annual maintenance
pools, tennis courts, etc.; pay for security; and
pay legal expenses incurred to enforce the deed
restrictions.
The Board meets every other month at 6:30
p.m. in the meeting room at the community building.
Residents are welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to
place an item on the agenda should call the HPCA
an as-needed basis for additional coverage.
Please call the Constable’s Office at 281 463-6666
watch. There is a voluntary $2.00 security
contribution on the M.U.D. #6 water bill that goes to
LEASH LAW
Animals that are not properly restrained pose a threat to all our residents. While
you may know your pet is friendly, an animal running at someone who is walking
by is very scary for that person. Many children are afraid of animals and become
frightened, which could result in the child getting hurt trying to avoid the animal.
Harris County Animal Control advises, “All dogs and cats must be kept under restraint
while in the unincorporated areas of Harris County, Texas. The custodian of a dog
or cat is not authorized to have, harbor or keep any unlicensed dog or cat nor to
allow any dog or cat to become a stray.”
Restraint is defined as “the control of a dog or cat under the following circumstances:
1. When it is controlled by a line or leash not more than six (6) feet in length, if the
line or leash is held by a human being, who is capable of controlling or governing
the dog or cat in question
2. When it is within a fully enclosed vehicle
3. When it is on the premise of the custodian and the animal does not have access
to sidewalk or street.”
While it may be nice to have your animal out in the yard while you work or play, it
is against the law, unless the animal is properly restrained.
Let’s all help keep our community a safe and comfortable place for all our residents
by being responsible pet owners. This will not only protect anyone who may be
walking or bicycling in the area, but also the pet owner who could be held legally
responsible or possibly sued for failing to properly restrain their pet.
Please remember that cats fall under the same laws as dogs and must be licensed
and kept restrained when not on the premises of the owner. We’ve been told that
spreading moth balls in flower beds might keep cats away.
To make a complaint or report an animal that is not properly restrained please contact:
KATY ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES
2016-2017 ATTENDANCE BOUNDARY
MODIFICATION
The Katy ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve an attendance
boundary modification (ABM) designed to address the opening
of three new campuses and alleviate overcrowding at campuses
landlocked with 125 percent capacity. This ABM will provide muchneeded
relief to Rylander and West Memorial elementary schools,
as well as, balance enrollment as the District prepares to open
two elementary schools and one junior high next school year.
During this entire process, the District welcomed feedback from
the community through an online survey. Nearly 9,000 parents,
staff and community members completed the survey and dozens
shared their feedback during the open forum at various
Board meetings. These comments helped shape the ABM and
addressed major needs and concerns cited by parents and community.
The District presented to the Board a preliminary ABM
proposal on November 16 th and then an updated option on December
7 th to better address the overcrowding at West Memorial
Elementary. The Board approved the updated ABM option on
December 14 th . The District estimates that approximately 3,600
students will be impacted by the approved attendance boundary
modifications. Katy ISD will be notifying all impacted families in
January/February 2016. For more information about the ABM
process, including maps of the approved attendance boundary
modifications, visit the District’s ABM webpage.
Fame. Coach Joseph, along with eight other inductees, were announced
on Saturday, December 19 th at NRG Stadium. Coach Joseph began his
coaching career at Luling High School 37 years ago. After advancing
in jobs at Brazosport and Austin Westlake, he then moved to Katy High
School, where he has served for 33 years. He was the KHS defensive
coordinator and then assistant head coach for 22 years before becoming
the KHS head coach in 2004. During his tenure as head coach, he
has led the Katy Tigers to eight state final games with three of those
appearances resulting in 6A State Championships. His current coaching
record stands at 167-14.
While individual and team accolades are greatly appreciated and
honored, Coach Joseph also strives to build a strong group of student
athletes who recognize, through the actions of their head coach, the
necessity for integrity, loyalty and the value of leading oneself and
others through life’s victories with humility and hardships with grace.
The induction banquet will be held on May 7, 2016 in Waco, Texas.
are five years old, entering Kindergarten
or First grade the following school year,
however still need a bit more time before
entering a rigorous learning environment.
The development of the essential building
blocks allows children to succeed at learning
with greater ease and confidence; by
helping them bridge the academic and
social gaps necessary to be positive and
productive classroom leaders.
Our school hours are Monday-Thursday
9 AM-2 PM and Friday 9 AM-12 noon.
The program provides a loving, Christian
environment offering the children weekly
chapel, as well as music/movement,
library and computer classes. Our curriculum
includes Handwriting Without
Tears, reading and math. The program is
You are invited to St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church’s Shrove Tuesday
Pancake Supper on February 9 th from 5:30-7 PM. We will eat
pancakes and play bingo! Shrove Tuesday originated during the
Middle Ages. Food items like meats, fats, eggs, milk and fish were
regarded as restricted during Lent. To keep such food from being
wasted, many families would have big feasts on Shrove Tuesday.
The English tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday came
about as a way to use as much milk, fats and eggs as possible
before Ash Wednesday began. In France, the consumption of all
fats and fatty foods on this day coined the name “Fat Tuesday”
or Mardi Gras.
Sharing Our Story Lenten Program - All are invited to St. Cuthbert
Episcopal Church’s Lenten program, Sharing Our Story. The
program will be offered for four Wednesdays in Lent, beginning
hear a testimony from a speaker who will share with us their story.
We will conclude with Holy Communion and healing prayers. The
Youth (sixth-twelfth grade) will take a look at wilderness and how
it relates to their lives and Children (kindergarten-fifth grade) will
explore the events of Holy Week. The nursery will be open. Please
join us for this impactful, spiritually-based Lenten program.
Cornerstone United Methodist Church has
partnered with Fiest Elementary School
to provide assistance to disadvantaged
students attending this elementary school
located. More than 50% of the students
attending the school are classified as “below
the poverty level.” In order to assure
that these students have the school supplies
they need, the “Friends of Fiest” at
Cornerstone have established a “Cornerstone
Closet for Fiest.” This is an ongoing
project whereby a stockpile of supplies is
maintained so that when students deplete
their initial supply and families cannot afford
to replenish their needs, teachers can
draw from the stockpile in the “Closet” to
provide needed items. Currently the most
needed items are composition books,
pencils, glue sticks and facial tissue. Contributions
can be dropped off in the church
office or placed in the “Closet for Fiest”
bend in the lobby of the worship center.
All contributions are welcomed.
this year on February 7 th .
Here are some FOOD tips
that may TRIM the waistline
on this traditionally food fest
football fun-day:
1. Create a Food Free
space: Keeping snacks in another
room will help everyone
save calories. Plus not having
the bowl of chips in front of the
TV will curb mindless eating.
2. Low-cal foods first: Instead
of bringing out the chicken wings right away, offer lowercalorie
foods during the first half of the game, such as a spread
of fresh veggies and a lightened-up dip.
3. Give classic recipes a healthy twist: Use nonfat Greek
yogurt in place of sour cream for dips. Cook Buffalo-marinated
chicken tenders instead of chicken wings: you’ll still get that
finger-licking yumminess while slashing your intake of saturated
fat and sodium. And skip the local pizza delivery; instead, set up
stations for everyone to make his/her own healthier and tastier
pizza at home.
4. Downsize your dishes. Downsize serving bowls from large
to medium. Serve up the tortilla chips in a medium bowl rather
than a large one. Same goes for the guacamole: serve that in
a small bowl.
5. Be drink aware: choose taller skinny glasses instead of short
wide ones. Bigger tip: serve only what your kiddo can enjoy!
CHINESE NEW YEAR FEBRUARY 8 TH !
An estimated 1.4 billion people around the world will be celebrating
the New Year on February 8, 2016.
Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year, starts on
the night of the second new moon of the winter solstice and ends
15 days later on the night of the full moon. During Chinese New
Year, families gather to enjoy delicious foods and to wish each
other good luck in the year ahead. Children are often given red
envelopes filled with coins, though the money inside is not as
important as the color and symbol found on the envelopes, which
signifies happiness and good blessings.
Each year, the New Year celebration is associated with an astrological
animal. 2016 is the year of the Red Monkey, also known
as the Fire Monkey. People born in the year of the Monkey are
said to be wise, intelligent, confident, charismatic, loyal, inventive
and have leadership, according to Your Chinese Astrology.
MARDI GRAS 2016!
MARDI GRAS -
FUN FACTS:
WOULD YOU BELIEVE?
• More than 500,000 king cakes are
sold each year in New Orleans between
January 6 th and Fat Tuesday
and another 50,000 are shipped
out-of-state via overnight courier.
• The king cakes include a tiny plastic
baby doll inside; the person who finds the doll is declared
“king” and must buy the next cake or give the next party.
26 February 2016 Bearcreek
• The metro area’s 37,000-plus hotel rooms
are traditionally 95% filled during Mardi Gras
weekend.
• An economic impact study released by the
University of New Orleans estimates that Mardi
Gras generates over $840 million annually.
• The largest of about one dozen Mardi Gras
supply houses in New Orleans sells an estimated
one billion pairs of beads for a Mardi
Gras season.
• The super parades of Endymion and Bacchus,
scheduled for the Saturday and Sunday before
Fat Tuesday, feature a combined total of 67 floats,
60 marching bands and more than 250 units.
Their 4,200 members toss more than 1.5 million
cups, 2.5 million doubloons and millions of beads.
• One of the most photographed objects in all
of Mardi Gras is the Boeuf Gras float in the Rex
parade. Since the Middle Ages, the bouef gras
(fatted bull) has been the symbol of the last meat
eaten before Lent. While once a live bull was
included in the procession, now a huge papiermache’
figure appears.
• The five truck parades that follow the krewes
of Rex, Argus and Grela on Fat Tuesday feature
more than 350 decorated flatbeds with nearly
15,000 costumed maskers aboard.
Valentine’s Day is just one day on February 14 th . Why not make
it Valentine’s Day each and every day by making those you love
feel extra special, including yourself. Here’s how:
1. Create & share a vision of your dream life together. Make the
fulfillment of your short term and long term needs the criteria
for choosing a partner and being in a relationship.
2. Accept your partner just as they are. Your partner is a special
person - the only one in the world like them, with their own
wonderful traits and unique gifts. They are entitled to their own
decisions, hobbies, goals and hopes.
3. Be generous and loving in all your dealings with your partner.
Give unconditionally, rather than wanting something back in
return. Instead, commit 100% to doing things for your partner
and with zero expectation.
4. Always have integrity. Commit to tell your partner the total
truth, as honesty is one of the key things people want in a relationship.
Knowing they can trust you builds a zone of safety
and comfort around them.
5. Resolve your differences as soon as they happen. Conflict
actually fuels a genuinely passionate partnership. So accept responsibility
for your part of the issue at stake and do not blame
your partner.
6. Do not criticize. It is ok to complain but not criticize. Your
partner is doing the best they can – support them in becoming
an even better person. NEVER put your partner down in front
of other people.
7. Create a haven for your partner. Make them feel so safe
and secure with you that they drop all their defensiveness. Be
considerate of your partner’s feelings and treat them with the
utmost care and kindness.
8. Let go of the past. All relationships have their difficulties. Remember
only the lessons learnt and forget the details. Weather
the stormy moments and savor the memory of sunny days.
9. Have a fun date with your partner regularly and often. Give
the relationship the same commitment you made when you first
met - simply put each other first!
Can Chiropractic Help ME ?
We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and
consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary,
(procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00.
