A DAY IN THE LIFE
Bennie Burrell, a freshman and Tiger wide receiver from
Oklahoma City, OK, tells us how hall life works well for him…
8:30 a.m.: I wake up and head downstairs
to the McMindes Café where I join my friends for
breakfast. It’s nice being able to start the day
with good company, talking about what’s ahead.
9:30 a.m.: After fueling up, I go to my first
two classes. They are not my favorite subjects,
but the teachers keep it fun and interesting.
11:30 a.m.: After surviving algebra and
history, I get to have a bit of fun across campus
in personal wellness playing games and
getting some physical activity while
learning a lot, too.
12:30 a.m.:
I take a seat in psychology which
is my favorite class. Try to take
good notes, not just so I can do
good on the test, but because it so
interesting to learn!
1:30 p.m.: Back to McMindes
for lunch. Open Access makes
it easy to pop in and grab a bite
whenever I have time and I can
always count on people I know
being around to eat with.
3:00 p.m.: I grab my gear and head out for the
short walk to to meet the rest of my team for football
practice at Lewis Field Stadium.
5:00 p.m.: After practice, we hit the campus
gym in Cunningham Hall where we either lifts
weights or play a pick-up game of basketball.
7:00 p.m.: I head to the Black Student Union
meeting down in the McMindes Living Room. We
plan out our next big trip–Chicago–and
then head out on the town to bowl
a few lanes together.
10:00 p.m.: Back at the hall,
I stop by my friends’ room to play
video games or just relax and listen
to music a while before calling it a
night and heading back to my room to
crash and do it all again tomorrow!
Note from Bennie:
Living on campus is a great choice
for everyone. As an athlete it is nice
to be close to my teammates and it
makes for a short commute to and
from practices and the campus gym.
