RESURRECTIONS AND JUDGMENTS M.M.NINAN In the life of the believer his sins have been judged at the foot of the cross and Jesus himself have taken up the punishments of the believers upon himself. Isaiah 53:4-6 “Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. 6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 1 Peter 2:24 “and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.” 14
RESURRECTIONS AND JUDGMENTS M.M.NINAN Romans 3:24-26 “being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” Rom. 4:25, "He who was delivered up because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification." Romans 5:8-11 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” Sin requires a penalty, the penalty of death as God’s holy judgment on sin. Jesus himself became part of the mankind. As a result he was able to take up the punishment that satisfies the demands on holiness of God and punishment of sin to satisfy the law of sin and death ordained in the creation. Thus the cross is an ongoing individual judgment. 15
