HOW DID THE APPLE COME TO CANADA?
the epic
APPLE
SEARCH
The apple tree originated from
a place called Kazakhstan that
is located in Central Asia. It
found its way across Europe
and reached the taste buds
of a French explorer named
Samuel de Champlain.
Oh, Mr.
McMelon! I
believe it all
started in
Kazakhstan.
When Champlain left his home to explore Canada
in the early 17th century, he brought the apple
with him (I mean he couldn’t leave it behind!).
When he and these new settlers tried to grow
them in the Canadian soil, they were
delighted to see how well they
flourished! They found that the
areas of Canada most suited
to growing apples were along
the north shore of Lake Ontario and
in Prince Edward County.
All the pioneer settlers planted apple
orchards as they arrived in what was
then Upper Canada. They relied on
apples for fresh eating and delicious
cooking and baking. b
