Pr<strong>of</strong>i le <strong>of</strong> the barangay where the <strong>PAK</strong> Operations is held provides a good background <strong>of</strong> the<br />
barangay itself. <strong>The</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>i le has information on:<br />
• history • land area • former and recent elected barangay leader<br />
• population • facilities available, and<br />
• mode <strong>of</strong> transportation available, etc.<br />
BRIEF PROFILE OF BARANGAY TACUL<br />
In 1943, Tacul was part <strong>of</strong> the Municipality <strong>of</strong> Bansalan. A Corporal <strong>of</strong> the Philippine<br />
Army named Cpl. Jose Sumalnap who was an Igorot from Agawa, Bisao, Mountain<br />
Province, created it. <strong>The</strong> First Bagobo leader was Datu Landiwa and the First Blaan<br />
Leader was Datu Banggat. <strong>The</strong> name <strong>of</strong> this place before was Pantulangon and it was<br />
changed and renamed as Tacul in 1948, which came from dominantly grown tree<br />
“TIPOLO”.<br />
<strong>The</strong> fi rst barangay leader known as Tenyente del Baryo was the Late Marcelo Callata<br />
when the then President Ramon Magsaysay signed into law RA 1408 creating Tacul<br />
as one <strong>of</strong> the barangay <strong>of</strong> the Municipality <strong>of</strong> Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.<br />
<strong>The</strong> current Barangay Captain is Alexander Cossid, who was previously appointed<br />
in 1998 when his predecessor run for Municipal Councilor and elected as Punong<br />
Barangay last June 15, 2002 barangay election.<br />
Barangay Tacul is bounded in the northwest portion <strong>of</strong> the municipality adjacent to<br />
the Barangays <strong>of</strong> Bala and Upper Bala on the eastern portion, Barangay Malongon<br />
on the northern portion, Barangay Maibo on the western portion bordering the<br />
provincial boundary <strong>of</strong> North Cotabato and Barangay San Isidro and Balnate on the<br />
southern portion. <strong>The</strong> terrain <strong>of</strong> the barangay is gently sloping hills, some fl at lands<br />
and mountainous areas going westward. It is approximately 9.6 kms. Away from the<br />
urban water <strong>of</strong> Poblacion, the seat <strong>of</strong> municipal government.<br />
It has a total land area <strong>of</strong> 1,220.746 hectares. It is an agricultural community with<br />
production from coconut, corn, rice and rubber at 320.0 hectares, 216.0 hectares,<br />
