The profi le has information on: • history • land area • former and recent elected barangay leader • population • facilities available, and • mode of transportation available, etc. BRIEF PROFILE OF BARANGAY TACUL In 1943, Tacul was part of the Municipality of Bansalan. A Corporal of the Philippine Army named Cpl. Jose Sumalnap who was an Igorot from Agawa, Bisao, Mountain Province, created it. The First Bagobo leader was Datu Landiwa and the First Blaan Leader was Datu Banggat. The name of this place before was Pantulangon and it was changed and renamed as Tacul in 1948, which came from dominantly grown tree “TIPOLO”. The fi rst barangay leader known as Tenyente del Baryo was the Late Marcelo Callata when the then President Ramon Magsaysay signed into law RA 1408 creating Tacul as one of the barangay of the Municipality of Magsaysay, Davao del Sur. The current Barangay Captain is Alexander Cossid, who was previously appointed in 1998 when his predecessor run for Municipal Councilor and elected as Punong Barangay last June 15, 2002 barangay election. Barangay Tacul is bounded in the northwest portion of the municipality adjacent to the Barangays of Bala and Upper Bala on the eastern portion, Barangay Malongon on the northern portion, Barangay Maibo on the western portion bordering the provincial boundary of North Cotabato and Barangay San Isidro and Balnate on the southern portion. The terrain of the barangay is gently sloping hills, some fl at lands and mountainous areas going westward. It is approximately 9.6 kms. Away from the urban water of Poblacion, the seat of municipal government. It has a total land area of 1,220.746 hectares. It is an agricultural community with production from coconut, corn, rice and rubber at 320.0 hectares, 216.0 hectares, 22
