For sure, sani2c countryside
is splendid, but so are sani2c
people: from the many unsung
heroes who have worked on
sections of the 261km course,
to the directors of companies
who have had the foresight to
invest in the sani2c vision. It is
the combination of these two
entities that makes the event
unforgettable and keeps many
of you coming back year after
year.
So, firstly, I extend my
appreciation and gratitude
to the communities and
landowners along the route
who work extremely hard for
their worthy organisations.
Without them and their passion
for the event, sani2c would not
have grown as it has. With their
enthusiasm, commitment and
hard work, the race continues
to inspire and benefit many
people from both within their
communities and beyond. With
their support, we are able to
continually upgrade the event
and the route, which, in turn,
enables us to further assist
communities in the area.
Another group of people who
are indispensable to the sani2c
experience are our sponsors and
partners. It goes without saying
(I say it anyway) that the event
would be a lesser experience
without their prudence,
dedication and support.
Many of you will be asking
who KAP is. KAP Industrial
Holdings Limited is a JSE-listed
company, which we are proud
to have as our sani2c B-BBEE
partner. A key consideration
in KAP’s decision to partner
with sani2c is the strong social
upliftment objectives of the
event. In fact, KAP has had
a longstanding involvement
with sani2c through its PG
Bison timber operations in the
KwaZulu-Natal region.
Fittingly, it was the PG Bison
floating bridge that initiated our
relationship. This innovative,
first-of-its-kind structure has
become an internationally
recognised feature of the sani2c
route. Now, some 12 years later,
we are innovatively bridging
the gap further by supporting
sani2c communities through
our CSI and B-BBEE partnership
with KAP and its brands.
Chief Executive Officer for
KAP, Gary Chaplin will support
riders at the event. Please
thank him wholeheartedly
when you meet him, but, more
importantly, let’s work together
to convince him to ride the
2017 KAP sani2c!
Of course, without all our
other sponsors, we would be
unable to add all the extras
that ultimately benefit the
event. To all of them, I offer
a hearty thank you for their
continued support.
Then there are the riders… To
the first timers, I hope you have
a great introductory ride and
that sani2c lives up to all your
expectations. It is wonderful
to see more and more women
riding each year. It is also great
to see so many men’s teams
come back – intact – each
year for their annual challenge,
more pleasure and, of course,
a little pain. Thank you. We are
humbled by your continued
support of our event.
Of course, ultimately, KAP
sani2c is all about the riding.
That’s what makes it a success
for everyone involved. Once
again, we continue to work hard
to innovate and incorporate
new features to keep the event
fresh and exciting for riders,
sponsors and our valued sani2c
communities.
Thank you again, one and
all, for your dedication and
commitment to continuing
to make the event better and
better over the past 12 years.
