This has been the most challenging year for the Development
Committee in SAA’s history. The economy has severely impacted
so many of the families that comprise our community. And yet, as
so many of us struggled, our wonderful SAA community generously
gave like never before. We’ve all heard the saying, “Those who
can, should.” This year, those who can, did. Moreover, even those
who really couldn’t, did anyway. The generosity of our community,
financially and in spirit, is both amazing and humbling. We, all of
us who are members of the Development Committee, are truly and
sincerely touched by the outpouring of support from all sources.
The Annual Giving Campaign was again exceptionally successful
under the capable leadership of chairs Gaby and Danny Cosgrove,
Luiza and Andrei Iancu, and Ellie and Fred Pourbaba. Even in this
rough economy, we still enjoyed 98% parent participation and
raised a total of $522,392.
An additional $464,732 was raised from other fundraising
programs, including the PTA’s Annual Event and Auction, Raise the
Paddle, the Grandparents Israel Scholarship Dinner, tribute gifts
and restricted contributions, many of which were earmarked for
Tuition Assistance, resulting in total fundraising of $987,124.
The 2010 Annual Event–Le Chic–was a beautiful evening, and
everyone who attended had an amazing time. The SAA PTA Board
acted together as co-chairs of the event, with PTA President Silvia
Malamud and Directors Adriane Bergman, Elenor Gabay, Cici
Hallegua, Afsaneh Illoulian, Julie Pardo, Sandy Shohed, Jessica
Sneider and Leigh Strauss doing a magnificent job. The room was
beautifully decorated, the food and drink flowed, and the music
motivated everyone to dance. The Annual Event would not be
complete without the hard work of our Auction Chairs Adeena
Fitterman, Patricia Lininger, Neda Mehdizadeh and Shiva Mosch.
Overall, net of expenses, the Annual Event and Auction raised
approximately $170,000 including another successful Raise the
Paddle for Tuition Assistance.
Under the dynamic leadership of Etty and Claude Arnall and
parent liaisons Janet Dardashty, Brenda Mehdyzadeh and Sandy
Shohed, the SAA’s Grandparents Association again demonstrated
its support for SAA students by organizing social and fundraising
activities, including Grandparent’s Day and the Israel Trip
Scholarship Dinner. The dinner, now in its second year, subsidized
the 8th grade Israel trip and honored Lesley and Jeffrey Wolman.
