Marilyn Monroe died in August 5, 1962 (aged 36), The cause of death was ruled
as probable suicide due to acute barbiturate poisoning. Her doctors confirmed
that she prone to depression and had overdosed before, likely on purpose. Several
conspiracy theories surround her death, mainly that she was murdered by the
Kennedys due to her affair with John F. Kennedy and possible links to communism.
No evidence of foul play was ever found. Monroe's mental and drug problems
were well know by those who surrounded her, and so were her dreams of being
recognized as a "real actress", not just a pretty thing. But the same industry and
people that fed off her fame were never interested in her as a human being, so
they just left her without help.
"I never quite understood it, this sex symbol. (...) That's the trouble, a sex symbol
becomes a thing. I just hate to be a thing. But if I'm going to be a symbol of
something I'd rather have it sex than some other things they've got symbols of."
