camp.
“We’re excited to have the
Civil War back after 10 years,”
says Nathan Maltinsky, chair of
the Millis Historical Commission.
He expects about
300-400 participants,
re-enactors representing
various regiments
from the time. “There
are some real history
buffs, and a lot of teachers
will bring a bunch
of students from their
classes,” he says. “We do
it to keep history alive.”
“It’s a great living
history experience for
students,” says Mark
Slayton, of the Millis
Historical Commission.
The event is open to
the public from 9 a.m.
– dusk. Admission is $5
per person, with a cap
of $20 per family and
free for children five and
under. All proceeds support
the event and historical
project around

“On Saturday there will be
a fashion show, demonstrations
of artillery, cavalry, infantry –
the battle will be at 2 p.m. and
probably wind down by 3, and
everyone heads back to camp
after that,” says Slayton. In addition
to a meet and
greet, there will be a
blacksmith onsite, a
Civil War-era hospital
with the women’s
USSC (U.S. Sanitary
Commission), and a
candlelit tours on Saturday
night. A more

see camp life after the
battle, while they put
dinner together and
clean their weapons.

will be there, and people
can visit them for

Lincoln band, which plays music
from the era. They will be camping
out and playing music.
“One of the years we had the
event, we must have had 300
people standing around, including
