Stephen Mold Stephen is the newly elected Police and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire. Stephen is happily married to Nikki. They have a young family and are seeing firsthand how wonderful & challenging bringing up children in the modern world can be. Stephen had a normal upbringing; climbing trees, playing football and then joining the Air Training Corps. This taught him tolerance, how to work with others through team-work, the importance of taking responsibility and the value of public service. Over the last 30 years, Stephen worked his way up through the ranks, from his first job unloading lorries though various senior roles onto running his own business. Stephen is passionate about making sure everyone gets their opportunity to make the most of their lives. As the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire, Stephen wants to ensure victims are put at the heart of everything he does. He is focused on addressing the problem with alcohol and drug fuelled crime across Northamptonshire, as well as working to end domestic violence. In addition to this, he also wants to make sure that the towns and villages of Northamptonshire are safe for children and free from those who wish to harm them, either physically or online. 10 Stephen is committed to protecting the number of frontline officers and believes that there is an ever increasing opportunity to exploit new technologies, to enable more officers to be visible on the streets of Northamptonshire tackling the issues important to local residents; rather than being stuck at stations filling out paperwork. In My Day The ramblings of Hubert James In my day it was about this time of year that the days got extra long and we all wanted to make the most of the light nights so we’d leave our curtains open. Course, this would cause a few problems. You might be sitting there clipping your toes nails or enjoying a lump of cheese and a glass of cider before bedtime and some passer-by could be peering in at you. Natural curiosity; see a window you want to look in. In my day, we didn’t have any of these modern blinds. We’d never even heard of Venice let alone the contraptions they hung in their windows. And there was no way we could have got our head around the idea of a roller blind. You pull on the cord to lower it, and it stays there by magic until you give it a quick tug and it spins back up. Really? Course, these blinds are just like curtains; they don’t let the light in. Although, if you are outside and keen on shadow puppets, they can let you watch quite a show. So that was the problem. You wanted to enjoy the long summer evening but you didn’t want to be goggled while you were doing it. Now it so happened that there was a spinster lady, (you don’t get them nowadays) called Annette Shutter. She lived on the Wellingborough Road and loved the long evenings. But she was shy, she didn’t want all and sundry gawking. So she put a mind to solving the problem. Now Annette was a dab hand at crochet and she hit upon the idea of loosely crocheting curtains. She hung them in her living room window and it worked. They let in light but not nosey parkers. Other folk were taken with the idea and Annette’s curtains started cropping up all over. Now this all sounds very good but sometimes the best ideas can cause problems. Some folk strolling around Finedon, began to feel they were being watched. You’d be walking along minding your own business and out of the corner of our eye you’d see the curtains twitch. Folk realised that neighbours could be, shall we say; inquisitive and they didn’t like it. So folk blamed Annette’s invention. It got so that if she stepped outside her door, folk would have a go at her. It wasn’t pretty but she was a strong lady. She stood up for herself and got her own back by writing her story and it became a best seller. I can recommend it. Have a look in the Library, it’s called The Drapes of Wrath.
