93(A) the duties and functions of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests
are as follows: G.O.No.6197/XIV-A748/1964dtDec4,1964
(I) Assisting the Secretariat in dealing with forest business. He is the local Head of Forest
Department and technical adviser to the State Government in Forest matters.
(2) Addressing Government on all large matters of policy and technical matters
(3) General administration of forests.
(4) Laying down and guidance of general policy of forest management, forest research,
silvicultural operations, wild life, fire protection, communications and buildings, control
over sales and supplies of forest produce to the Railways, D.G.S. & D. and industrial and
commercial firms.
(5) Correspondence on professional matters with the Inspector General of Forests and
President, Forest Research Institute and colleges, and other State Institutions
(6) Approval of final drafts of working plans and sanction of all major deviations which affect
the basis of management.
(7) Sanction of, formation and redistribution of beats and ranges.
(8) Submission of proposals to the Government regarding redistribution of divisions and
circles.
(9) Preparation of budget estimates (Proposed, Revised and Latest) and its re-
appropriations,
distribution of funds amongst circles.
(l0) Overall supervision regarding implementation of the 5 year Plans.
(11) Issue of financial sanctions beyond the competence of the Chief Conservators of Forests
and Conservators of Forests subject to limits of his own powers.
(12) Control over establishment and dealing with references relating to
(i) Recruitment of officers of U.P.F.S. from the P.S.C.
(ij) Appointment, promotion, transfer, deputation and pension of U.P.F.S.
(13) To sanction appointment of the I-~ Assistant of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests
office and other staff in the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests office.
