“Boudhanath Stupa” is the largest stupa <strong>in</strong> Nepal and the religious Tibetan Buddhist Temple outside Tibet. It is<br />

located <strong>in</strong> the eastern outskirts of the city. This was probably built <strong>in</strong> the 14 th century. The Stupa looks like a giant<br />

mandala, the n<strong>in</strong>e levels of stupa represent the mythical Mt. Meru, center of the <strong>co</strong>smos, and the 13 r<strong>in</strong>gs from the base<br />

to the p<strong>in</strong>nacle symbolize the path to enlightenment. At the bottom, the stupa is surrounded by an irregular 16 – sided<br />

wall, with fres<strong>co</strong>es <strong>in</strong> the niches. In addition to the five dhyani Buddhas, Bodhanath stupa is closely associated with the<br />

Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara (Padmapani), whose 108 forms are depicted <strong>in</strong> sculptures around the base.

The “Swayambhunath Stupa” is located at the top of the western edge of the city. <strong>Tourist</strong>s are also called it a monkey<br />

temple. You have to step up from the 365 stairs form the eastern side or you may hire a taxi to reach up from the west<br />

side. On the eastern way you will see a12 feet tall gate <strong>co</strong>nta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a huge Tibetan prayer. The central Build<strong>in</strong>gs and<br />

de<strong>co</strong>rations are rich with its Buddhist symbols. The Five Dhyani Buddhas are further honoured with the special shr<strong>in</strong>es<br />
