Letterpress revival
From the beginning of mechanical printing in 1445,
letterpress was the only method of printing. It was the
new technology of the day, that spread quickly from
Germany to the known world, just as the internet (in
25 years) has taken over communication today.
Letterpress lasted for over 500 years. It had all but
disappeared by the 1970s, being replaced first by offset
printing and today, more and more by digital printers.
However in the last few years worldwide, there has
been a revival of letterpress print: mixing old press
technology with computer generated text and graphics.
Letterpress is again available with its unique qualities;
tactile, with a deep inked impression, giving a
wonderfully sharp and crisp look, both distinctive and
elegant.
With interesting design, letterpress printed stationery
can look more like a piece of art rather than just a nice
invitation.
