RAF SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS
RAF Ski Champs:
An annual event where personnel from
all stations are encouraged to compete
against each other in a full range of
downhill race events; be it on skis
or snowboards.
Boarding a flight bound for
Salzburg, Austria, the home
of Mozart, it was not soaring
melodies that we were looking
for but the lofty peaks of the
mighty Alps which loomed large
over us as we touched down.
Our eventual destination was a
stone’s throw from the fabled
Berchtesgarden. Remembering
that our predecessors and
allies had fought fiercely and
bravely on the nearby hills
and slopes, we were ready to
take on our challenge; the RAF
Ski Championships.
