I've been making quick visits to<br />
<strong>Monhegan</strong> for work for years<br />
but couldn't sneak in much time<br />
for photography on the island.<br />
I was familiar with the island,<br />
but not familiar in the way intentional<br />
photography connects<br />
me to a place. Taking the time to<br />
photograph here has shown me<br />
<strong>Monhegan</strong> has the wildness and<br />
energy that we expect to find on<br />
the coast of Maine, but turned up<br />
to 11. The rocks, woods, sky, and<br />
ocean I love seem familiar, but<br />
much much more intense away<br />
from the mainland. I can manage<br />
to show little excerpts of this<br />
boldness in photographs.<br />
