KERALA TO ORGANISE<br />

CULINARY FEST AS PART OF<br />

MUZIRIS PROMOTION<br />

Among the events to be organised for the<br />

promotion <strong>of</strong> Kerala’s Muziris Heritage<br />

Project, launched by President Pranab<br />

Mukherjee, will be a culinary festival<br />

presenting delicacies from 31 countries. <strong>The</strong><br />

Muziris port, said to have been located in the<br />

Paravur-Kodungalloor region, is the bedrock<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Spice</strong> Route – an initiative <strong>of</strong> Kerala<br />

Tourism, involving 31 countries with whom<br />

the port had trade relations. <strong>The</strong> festival will<br />

be held in September at Bolghatty Palace.<br />

Given the involvement <strong>of</strong> so many nations,<br />

the Centre, too, is expected to play an<br />

important diplomatic role.<br />

INDIAN GOVERNMENT CONSTITUTES A<br />

DEDICATED WELLNESS TOURISM BOARD<br />

A National Medical and Wellness Tourism Board has been<br />

constituted to provide institutional framework for promoting<br />

medical, wellness, yoga and Ayurveda tourism. Three subcommittees<br />

have been set up to look into <strong>issue</strong>s relating to<br />

visa, accreditation and allied services, and marketing.<br />

MADHYA PRADESH GEARS UP FOR TOURISM<br />

Madhya Pradesh is developing its tourism infrastructure, with<br />

`13 billion worth <strong>of</strong> public and private investments expected this<br />

year. State tourism <strong>of</strong>ficials state that the new funding will cover<br />

a range <strong>of</strong> areas, including 300 roadside amenities such as cafes,<br />

restrooms, parks and parking facilities. <strong>The</strong> state government<br />

is focusing on wildlife, rural and religious tourism areas and<br />

activities, as well as expanding its accommodation <strong>of</strong>ferings.<br />
