Friday 8, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 July 2016: The biennial St Petroc's Flower Festival: the festival<br />

show ‘Magical Musicals’ will be open 10.00am to 6.00pm on Friday and Saturday and 10.00am to<br />

4.00pm on the Sunday. The church will be filled with a riot of theatrical colour from 21 displays<br />

depicting famous and less well known musical shows and the weekend will finish at 4pm on Sunday<br />

with a short celebratory concert by the ladies singing group SASS. Refreshments will be served in the<br />

Church Room. Admission free, but donations will be welcome in aid of Safebreaks Holidays – a local<br />

organisation providing holidays, activities and clubs for young people and vulnerable adults with<br />

additional needs.<br />

Saturday 9 July 2016: South Brent Radio Hour from 3-4pm there will be a new one hour South<br />

Brent Community Radio programme of items and soundscapes. It will be pre-recorded & broadcast<br />

on Soundart Radio and broadly themed 'Folk' to include local traditions, tales and folk arts in the<br />

widest sense. Recorded contributions are invited - Either leave a labelled USB stick at artworks or<br />

send via Dropbox/We Transfer to: radio@sustainablesouthbrent.org.uk. Deadline for submitting<br />

pieces: Thursday 7th July. Alice will collate and can be contacted by email<br />

radio@sustainablesouthbrent.org.uk or phone 07813391294. There will be a Community Radio stall<br />

with information about the project and listening post in the village on the broadcast day. More<br />

information to follow.<br />

You can now hear, or 'Listen again' to all the recent South Brent Community Radio broadcasts:<br />

Summer (Saturday 18 July 2015); Autumn (Sunday 18 October 2015); Winter (Saturday 12 December<br />

2015) and Spring (Saturday 5 March 2016). Click on www.mixcloud.com/southbrentradio and select<br />

the part of the programme you would like to hear.<br />

In addition to being able to listen online, past broadcasts will become part of the South Brent Radio<br />

Archive, available via 'South Brent Listening Posts' designed to make the archive more widely<br />

accessible via three small mp3 players with headphones and instructions, loaded with selections of<br />

South Brent Radio pieces and located at different points around the village (Crumbs and Cuppa, The<br />

Oak and Foggs); the access points may move and could be available at event stands etc.<br />

South Brent Village Hall Cinema:<br />

Sunday 10 July 2016 Bridge of Spies (2015) : German-American historical drama thriller,<br />

directed by Steven Spielberg. Based on the 1960 U-2 incident during the Cold War, the film tells<br />

the story of lawyer James B. Donovan (Tom Hanks), who is brought in to defend Rudolf Abel<br />

(Mark Rylance), a captive Soviet KGB spy held by the United States. Donovan is then recruited by<br />

the CIA to negotiate the release of Francis Gary Powers (Austin Stowell), the pilot whose U-2 spy<br />

plane was shot down over the Soviet Union in exchange for Abel. Also starring Amy Ryan as Mary<br />

Donovan and Alan Alda as Thomas Watters Jr., Donovan's associate.<br />

Subsequent provisional Village Hall Cinema dates in 2016: Saturday 17 September; Saturday 19<br />

Tuesday 12 July 2016: Village Hall Annual General Meeting at 7.30pm in the Stansbury Room, South<br />

Brent Village Hall. All residents are invited to attend. (It is essential that regular users send a<br />

representative as the annual Statutory Fire Regulations briefing will take place at the end of the<br />

AGM).<br />
