NUTGTWN, Mr. Issa Aremu,
Labour blamed Nigeria’s woes
on absence of “development
agenda”, urging the
presidency to go back in time
and look at past reports of
Visions 2010, 2020 and
consolidate them with 2014
National Conference report.
Aremu, who is also the
Chairman of IndustriALL
Global Union, Africa region,
contended that governance
should move beyond the
“present adhockism to
informed policy choices and
implementations strategies”.
While speaking at a career
development and mentoring
lecture organized by
S.M.I.L.E.S (Sending
Message by Impacting Lives
with Enabling Support) youth
initiative held at Zamani
College Malali, Kaduna,
Aremu said Nigeria could not
engage meaningfully with
countries like China which
had sustainable development
agenda without its own
development agenda,
insisting: “Development does
not come through friendship
but self national interests in
national plans.”
According to him: “China
engages with Africa within
the context of its 13th Five-Year
Plan 2016-2020 for Economic
and Social Development.

We got N345m for IDPs — SHETTIMA

Shettima of Borno State,
yesterday declared that
his administration
received only N345
million cash as
donations from outside
interests contrary to
allegations of a windfall
of billions supposedly
channelled to help
victims of the Boko
Haram insurgency.
The governor, who
spoke to reporters on
arrival from Abuja, said
the administration since
its advent also received
assistance in several
forms in kind from other
state governments and
agencies in the country.
“You see, contrary to
wild assumptions that the
Borno State Government
has received billions of
cash donations in local
and foreign currencies for
the management of
Internally Displaced
Persons, IDPs, a lot of
Nigerians may be
shocked to know that a
total of three hundred
and forty five million
naira (N345m) is the
overall amount received
as cash donation by
our administration
from May, 2011 to
date.
According to him the
Federal Government
during the Goodluck
Jonathan era provided
N200 million, Lagos
State Government,
N50 milion in October,
2015, Edo State
Government,
N25milion in 2013,
Kano State, N20 milion
in 2013, Adamawa
State, N20 milion in
2013 and Ekiti State,
N10 milion in 2013.
Others were Osun
State, N10 milion in
2013, Kaduna State, N5
milion and Unity Bank,
N5 milion.
He said the N345
million donation was in
the face of the N600
million spent every
month to cater for IDP’s
throughout the
Jonathan era.
He also listed other
interventions to
include Kebbi State
Government, 1,200
bags of rice; Ebonyi
State Government gave
us 5,000 bags of rice;
Taraba gave us three
trucks of highland tea
and Gombe which
I can’t marginalize any
section of Nigeria — BUHARI

ABUJA—PRESIDENT Muhammadu
Buhari has said he will be fair to all
sections and tribes of Nigeria, assuring that
he will never marginalize anyone.
The President gave the assurance at the
palace of the Emir of Daura, Dr. Farouk Umar
Farouk, during the breaking of Ramadan fast.
Speaking in Hausa language, the President
said that under his watch, no section of the
country would either be discriminated against
or marginalized, urging the people to continue
to pray for the unity of the country.
The President was accompanied by Governors
Aminu Bello Masari and AbdulAziz Yari of
Katsina and Zamfara states respectively.
The event also attracted the Deputy Governor,
the SSG and speaker of Katsina State Assembly
and many traditional title holders.
It featured special prayers for peace, unity, stability
and sustainable development of the country.

cash donated to Borno by
international partners but
rather, items and services
worth such amount
mentioned to the public.

Jang blasts Lalong over grazing reserves policy

Senatorial zone in the National Assembly,
Jonah Jang, has described the grazing
reserves/ranching policy of Governor
Simon Lalong as an attempt to sell off the
birthright of the people of Plateau State.
According to a statement issued yesterday
by the Senator Jang through his aide,
Clinton Garuba, he said: “The attention of
the Senator representing Plateau North in
the National Assembly, Senator Jonah
Jang has been drawn to remarks made by
the Plateau State Governor, Barr. Simon
Lalong to the effect that he (Sen. Jang)
was responsible for the protests that
greeted the APC Government’s policy on
grazing reserve, ranching.
The fact that we have to struggle with a
nomenclature for the anti-people policy is
in itself a pointer to the fact that the
government of the day doesn’t know what
to do and is cleaving to anything just to
portray itself to be working.''
