SPOTLIGHT
MALACHY KELLY
“Guinness and whiskey were invented to keep the Irish from ruling the world”
Full name: Malachy Kelly
Nationality: Irish
Tell us more about your hometown
Born in Derry in Northern Ireland on
the border with the Republic Of
Ireland. My grandparents and father
are from the Republic of Ireland so I
have had the pleasure of growing up,
working, surfing and travelling around
both of these beautiful, charismatic
and interesting locations. With a
population of approx. 120,000 people
Derry is a small, friendly, full of
character city on the banks of the
River Foyle in the top Northwest
corner of Ireland.
How many are you in the family?
My Mum and Dad plus two younger
sisters make up my immediate family. I
am happily married to my childhood
sweetheart Sinead Kelly.
Educational Background
Having completed a MA in Property at
the University of Aberdeen in Scotland
I have always worked in real
estate and have a real passion and
interest in the buzz and excitement of
the property market. Having worked
in the property industry in Derry,
Belfast and Dubai I believe I am
gaining a very broad and valuable real
estate experience and hope to become
a valuable addition to the Chesterton’s
team!
Having joined Chestertons in January
of 2016 I have made some fantastic
friends, got to visit some great places
and believe that it’s a great company
to be part of! Having been recruited
to become the face of Chestertons
worldwide and step in as CEO in
2017 I am incredibly excited and
ready to drive the company forwards.
(Miracles do happen
Malachy!)
Tell us more about yourself and your
family
Having been a competitive swimmer
throughout my early and late teens I
have always been interested in sport.
I first met Sinead at my local swimming
club, where we both trained,
when we were children. A keen surfer
I have travelled around the world
surfing and love to visit new places
and meet new people. I am a sports
fanatic and avid supporter of Liverpool
Football Club and the Irish
rugby team. I am loving the European
football championships right now and
hope to see Ireland continuing their
fantastic progress through to the
final!
I finally married Sinead in December
2012 after more than 10 years of
dating, in Ireland, and have finally
persuaded her to join me in the Dubai
sunshine. She has been working as
nutritionist for the Jumeirah Group
since late 2015 and absolutely loves
the Dubai “work hard play hard”
lifestyle!

10 Tips to
Improve Your
Health at Work
days a week can take a toll on your body. From
avoiding eye strain and tension neck syndrome
to passing on those extra calories that co-workers
leave invitingly on their desks, experts give
WebMD 10 tips that will help you stay healthy
and in shape at work.
The snacks that your co-workers so
nicely place on their desk can add a
few hundred calories to your
1
daily diet if you're not careful,
and they can leave you
with unwanted pounds if
you help yourself day after
day.
"If it's out of sight, it's out of mind, so if you know
someone has a candy dish on their desk, walk
around his or her desk so you don't feel the
temptation," says Dawn Jackson, a registered
dietitian and spokeswoman for the American
Dietetic Association. "Take a break, get a breath
of fresh air, and skip the candy. Or, if you are
hungry, have fruit at your desk, like cherries or
grapes."
explains Jackson, which means there is likely more
so go in with people and get fruit bowls instead
of candy bowls," says Jackson. "And see if you can
get people to replace their candy bowls with
something healthier."
2
Drinking an adequate
amount of water -- eight to
10 glasses every day -- can
help keep you hydrated.
Many foods are also good sources of
water; fruits like oranges, grapefruit,
grapes, watermelon, and apples can help keep
you healthy and hydrated.
"The 3 o'clock lull that many people feel at work
can be due todehydration, so drink lots of water,"
Jackson tells WebMD. "Set goals: Bring a 16 ounce
Another tip from Jackson: Set your computer
3
"Walking during lunch is a great
idea," says Jackson. "Not only are you burning
calories, but you're de-stressing and refreshing."
One of the most important
things you can do during
the day to stay healthy and
in shape is to exercise.
whom you can depend on for a daily walk --someone
who will drag you out even if you claim you're
too busy. If you really can't get out during lunch,
park farther away than you normally do so you
have a short walk to work in the morning and
evening, or make it a habit to take the stairs
instead of the elevator.
Eating a healthy lunch is an
important part of a balanced
diet. But eating reasonable
portions is an
important part of your
health.
"Eat a healthy lunch at work, but also practice
portion control so you aren't consuming too many
calories and then sitting in a chair all afternoon,"
says Jackson. "Many times, it's not that you are
eating unhealthy food, it's just that you are
eating too much."
For instance, Jackson explains that pizza isn't
inherently bad, it's just that a person will eat three
or four slices too many, and that's where the
problem lies. Instead, share a large slice of piece
of pizza with a co-worker, and then eat a salad
that's packed with veggies.
What's the
most important
9
thing you can
10
do to stay
healthy at work?
"The most
important way to
stay healthy at work
starts with
self-awareness,"
"Know yourself and know your limits and do the
best you can to stay within those limits given your
job. Know when to take breaks and know when to
take a vacation. And get plenty ofexercise, which
helps you both physically and mentally, both at
work and at home."
