DANCING WITH THE WIND by Avril Meallem

I could hardly utter the words;
"Please, can we be friends?"
My heart pounded
I froze…
"Of course we can! "
My fear dissolved
and I awoke, aware
that a transformation had taken place.
Now I know that the terror
that has shown itself
in my dreams since childhood
is something only I can overcome.
I cannot run from it.
I may never discover its' source
but now I have a strategy
to combat its hold over me.
I will turn to face my fear
and say;
"You are my friend.
You no longer frighten me."
