LAKES ON ELDRIDGE
YARD OF THE MONTH
The Good Neighbor Program offered and sponsored by
Cornelius Nursery is truly a welcoming recognition by many
of the LOE community residents. The Yard of the Month
Committee has chosen the July winners that show you can
have a beautiful garden in full sun or in shade. Firecracker
plants and plumbago thrive in the hot Houston sun, while
caladiums and impatiens are better suited for shade. A
big thank you to these residents for filling their yards with
beautiful summer color!
SUMMER BIBLE STUDY
The summer bible Study began June 7, 2016, with Experiencing
God’s Presence by Sarah Young, author of the Jesus Calling Series.
This eight week study is designed to “help individuals and groups
meditate on Scripture and hear them not just as words said to
people long ago but as words said to us today in the here and now”.
Scripture reveals all that God wants us to know about Him, His Son
Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Only when we open our hearts and
minds to these precious words can we use them to strengthen our
relationship with our Savior and become aware of His presence in
our lives.
The books are available online at amazon.com,
christianbookdistributors.com, Mardels Christian Bookstore in Katy
or possibly at Sam’s for about $6.
We hope you will join us at 9:30 AM at the Beach Club at Lakes
on Eldridge. For additional information contact Stephanie at
leggettstephanie@ymail.com.
Buffalo Bayou runs right down the middle of our city and is home to
path that runs the length of the bayou from Shepherd street bridge
all the way to downtown and back. It makes for a wonderful evening
cycle. Add to that our stable of B-Cycles (rental bikes stationed all
over central city) and you have the makings for an awesome evening
pour out and then onto to downtown for the adventurous. We’ll stop
at a local watering hole and be back by 10:30 PM. If 10:30 PM is
past your bedtime, we will be stopping at our parking lot on the way
CY-FAIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION 2016 B. F. ADAM GOLF CLASSIC
The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF) hosted its 28 th Annual B.F.
Adam Golf Classic at BlackHorse Golf Club, one of the top public courses
in the state of Texas. Underwriter Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center
Hospital, Platinum Sponsors Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, IBI
Group and Satterfield & Pontikes Construction and Gold Sponsor KME
Salas O’Brien have generously supported the B. F. Adam Golf Classic
helping the Foundation raise more than $1.2 million over the past 10
years. To date the tournament has raised in excess of $2.6 million,
including $135,000 this year. The B.F. Adam Classic is named for B.F.
(Bernard Fred) Adam who was a lifelong Cy-Fair resident and a devoted
school board member, serving 24 years on the board and namesake
of B.F. Adam Elementary. The day’s events included lunch sponsored
by Caldwell Companies, welcoming remarks from Bob Adam CFEF
Trustee since 1971 and son of B. F. Adam, shotgun start, dinner catered
by Carl’s BBQ and Willies Grill & Icehouse, a raffle and live auction. The
B.F. Adam Golf Classic is one of the largest non-celebrity tournaments
in the Houston area. After the recent floods, it was a welcome relief for
the players as they enjoyed fair skies and very good playing conditions.
The tournament was a rousing success. This year’s winners included
ACU of Texas, Jakes’ Finer Foods and Prosperity Bank on the north
course and Purcell Construction, Inc, Alamo Red/The Backyard Grill
and Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital on the south course.
NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION
currently zoned for click on the following link: www.transfinderi.com/
you moved from one school zone to another within the district, you
need to provide the registrar (at your child’s new home campus) with
your current proof of residence during new student registration. The
Can Chiropractic Help ME ?
We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor
of chiropractic can help my problem?”
We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and
examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete
consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary,
(procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00.
We will make this special program available through July. The only exception
to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents)
in which there is no charge directly to the patient.
The ‘Salute to the Stars’ honors Cy-Fair ISD’s best teachers who
have such a significant impact on our youth. This event is a primary
example of our community appreciating and valuing our teachers
and schools. One teacher from each of its campuses is recognized
as representing a unique balance of skill, art and heart in teaching
students in his or her subject area or program. Initiated in 1998,
it has raised more than $2 million for Foundation programs. For
more details, please go to www.thecfef.org/qsot-event/salute-tothe-stars/.
GIRL SCOUTS
GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL
COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY
The community Bridging Ceremony held in May was our last “official
“event of the school year. Our bridging troops showed off their artistic
talents with the beautiful butterflies and flowers that decorated the
stage! It is always a pleasure to hear about the activities and projects
these troops have worked on and to see the smiling faces as the
girls cross the bridge and don their new vests and sashes. We would
particularly like to thank troop 113035. This bridging troop performed
our flag ceremony and also helped to clean up afterwards. You could
see these Girl Scouts really work together as they carried the disassembled
bridge out to the parking lot! Many thanks to Julie Mayer,
who coordinated the event and to all those who participated.
• Troop 16162 reports that they were able to pack about 75 bags
with cereal, protein, vegetables, fruit, juice boxes, peanut butter, jelly
BOY SCOUTS
BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA -
COPPERHEAD DISTRICT
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values
found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are
just as relevant in helping youth grow to their full potential as they
were in 1910. Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, selfconfidence,
ethics, leadership skills, outdoor skills and citizenship
skills that influence their adult lives.
The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and
activities that allow them to:
• Try new things.
• Provide service to others.
• Build self-confidence.
• Reinforce ethical standards.
Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important
as individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal
responsibility and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions
have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices
can be made.
Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21.
Scouting through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life
skills which help our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by
the BSA Sam Houston Area Counsel - Copperhead District which
includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5 to 10 years old), 13 Troops
(boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing units (boys and girls
from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly.
Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools
including: Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley,
